Don't forget this:

No, THIS is one the greatest moments of footballing history.

Is there reason why Hollywood hasn't made a major blockbuster about the civil rights movement?

Hmmmm, I'm not so sure about this. Futurama was great, but I felt it went out on a high and I was looking forward to see what Groening would do next. Still, I'm not expecting the quality of the show to disapate anytime soon. I hope they do an hour-long "wedding episode" or something - they seemed quite intrested in doing that on the directors commentary in season 4.

Is Britain sleepwalking into a dictatorship...
gaggle64 replied to mario114's topic in General Chit Chat
That's a very bleak and simplistic view of local and national politics. First of all, there are still plenty of channels through which the public can air it's grivences to their representives at local and national level, including lobbys, parliamentary commities, and so on. Ever watch the BBC Parliament channel? It's the greatest channel in the world. There's everything from debates over hospital trusts to local school authorities, ministerial investigations, sub-office debates and regional policy as well as the usual like Prime Ministers questions. A recall a few weeks back watching the lobby fighting for compensation for ex-coal miners pitch their case to the parliamentary commmitee. The means for ordinary citizens to represent themselves in an official capacity are redily available. Furthermore, if people want to move away from a two-party system, why not vote for a third party? I mean, why doesn't anyone? Even with the first past the post system, if they only win by a small margin, their real political power could be next to nothing, especially depending on the council ballot. Imagine if a small number of the population in a single area finally saw sense and voted Green? Even if they failed to get the national seat, they could overun the local council ballot and claim a huge amount of power with even a handful of council seats. If your worried about party politics, why not vote for an independent candidate? Hell, stand yourself if need be. Alternatives exsist. USE THEM. -
I don't care what anyone says, gaming is not a sport. Sport is designed in order to push the mental and physical limitations of the human system in a competitive enviorment. I just don't think gaming does all that.

You faff on about 4D all you want, in the end there are only three actual physical dimensions that we can interact with. I also don't trust something which has spent the last couple of weeks screeching around the Gamespot PS3 forums from someone calleing themselves "noob". Don't ask why. I've just got this gut feeling.

Is Britain sleepwalking into a dictatorship...
gaggle64 replied to mario114's topic in General Chit Chat
I must say, I agree with you there. I believe in a free democracy, but there's a point where it stops being a clean, organised democracy and just falls under a mob mentality. You're also quite right that people probably should vote for who they want to win, not who they think will win. I personally make it a point when I vote. Besides, even the smallest parties have a decent shout in the local council vote. I suppose who will get X amount of seats and who will get Y seats might change who you vote for though. Of course, that's their business. Secret ballot and all that. -

At least you're voting. There's no shame in a protest vote either. I'm currently almost past caring who people vote for, so long as they vote. I think I'll start some kind of cheerleading group next election or something - just to get people to take some intrest and action in their democarcy. -
Is Britain sleepwalking into a dictatorship...
gaggle64 replied to mario114's topic in General Chit Chat
To start off, I think we need people to sodding vote. I'm sick to death of people complaining they don't have say in their democracy, and then only about half the populoce actually turning out to vote at all. As the mighty Rory Bremner noted during the 2005 election: "After over four years of complaining bitterly about the Blairite government, the electorate finally get a say in the matter, and what's their reaction?: 'Gawd, I wish they would hurry up and get this election over with.'" Final voter turnout? Up over 2% from 2001 to a mighty, er... 61%. Great. Oh c'mon, it's not as if there isn't enough choice. On the right you have New Labour and the Tories. Centre you have the Lib Dems. Go left you find the Greens (who I may vote for come the next election), and on both extremes you have the likes of the BNP and the Socialist Party. Ever looked at a ballot sheet? Trust me, it's longer then you think. This is why Peter Snow has an "other" column. EDIT: Also, I'm not sure a preportional government system would work very well. I personally feel it would cause political instability, but that's just my opinion. -
F Zero GX - Have you unlocked the AX tracks?
gaggle64 replied to david.dakota's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Arrrgh, screw this, I'll come back to those AX racers later. I think I'll kick back and start unlocking those disco videos I've been hearing about. -
Shit, that's not right. That's worth reporting to the cops - it's not high priority obviously, but it's still intimidation. With a bit of luck, thay may send one of their community officers if they're available. Best make sure your with friends when you go out - these assholes love to intimidate people, so do everything you can to show your not controlled by them.

Although I'm not big fan of Labour or the Iraq war, it was quite honerable of the Blair government to take it to vote, even though they were not required to do so. Although if they had lacked the support of the Tories, I do suspect they might not have bothered. I feel quite confident with current Palimentary procedure as it stands, all being said. I just feel, god forbid, this or similar legislation is succesfully smuggled in (in a similar American fashion to Blair's early terror laws - although a failure, it's clear he's spending to much time with Bush) it can only be the start of a long slippery slope to the demise of a currently stable democracy. -
This is the part of the film where Kenneth Williams comes running in, and makes some smutty inuendo to the Matron about his tool being pushed in too deep.

Don't panic, I'm sure he's being sarcastic. There should be some kind sarcasm smiley or something. Anyway, yeah, this is the kind of freaky crap that eventually leads to a dictatorship. Some people say "Yeah, whatever, it will never happen.". Oh really? Go tell it to the Patriot Act in the US. Go tell it to the Bellesconi. Go tell it to Putin. We shouldn't let ouselves be cojoled into this kind of crap. I really don't like the sound of this. I really don't want ministers getting too much power over our laws, even with those restrictions. I hope they don't let this sneak by and the opposition doesn't get seduced by the Blairites again. -
Radiohead to do the music for A Scanner Darkly...
gaggle64 replied to Schizoid Man's topic in General Chit Chat
I'm not a huge Radiohead fan, but Terry Gilliam on the other hand... now there's a guarantee of quality. Looking forward to this now. All hail the big TG.  -
This is going to be rubbish. I honestly can't percieve this ever turning out to be a good idea. This isn't going to be at all like the original Star Wars. Besides he all but destroyed those with Ep 1-3. George Lucas has to be stopped. VIOLENTLY.

Yowser, that's nasty. My comesserations to you. Some people are just weird. I used to have a few people in my secondry-school that used to come on to me like this cause they figured I was an easy target, but lucky for me none of them could throw a punch to save themselves. You should seriously tell the school and cops, and don't stop pushing until he's got expelled/charged/assraped at least. I do wonder though - I mean, why do people do this? They seem to do it almost just so they can have a fight on the nearest available person. Why? What exactly is going through their heads? I mean, they must be doing it for somekind of reason. These aren't just 2D characters in a film or videogame, who fight because they're supposed to, these are actual living, breathing individuals we're talking about here. Why do they feel the need to pull this shit?

F Zero GX - Have you unlocked the AX tracks?
gaggle64 replied to david.dakota's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Yes F-Zero is stunning. Finally completing the Diamind cup on the hardest setting is to experience pure gaming ecstacy. It's bloody hard thoughand took me months of practice. You just gotta keep trying - this is proper hardcore. It's worth it for the AX tracks though - they're all among the best in the game. The Meteor Storm level is my personal fav. If you think the main championship mode is hard though, you should try the story mode. It's just as hard on normal - I've been trying to complete it on hard and it's bloody impossible. The Grand Prix level in particular is murder. I want those AX vehicles though, but you need to complete the story mode on V. Hard to get them. Is the human system even capable of achieving such a thing. Has anyone actually unlocked them? -
Flaming Lips: Do You Realise Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face Do You Realize - we're floating in space - Do You Realize - that happiness makes you cry Do You Realize - that everyone you know someday will die And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know You realize that life goes fast It's hard to make the good things last You realize the sun doesn't go down It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round Do You Realize - Oh - Oh - Oh Do You Realize - that everyone you know Someday will die - And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know You realize that life goes fast It's hard to make the good things last You realize the sun doesn't go down It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face Do You Realize This song is pratically my anthem and philosphy to life.

Obviously a golf game would be a major plus and stand out amongst all the inevitable shooters that will arive early on. I like the cute anime style of this one. I don't mind if it's a "realistic" golf game or not, or Mario related or whatever, but with the FHC functionality, it's going to need a decent physics model to be fun and challenging - that the ball will do what I think it's going to do with even the slightest changes in my swing and stroke. That's the sort of thing I will be looking for in these sorts of FHC interactive sports games now.

I don't get why people would smoke stuff like cannibis. I know you could argue that stuff like alcohol is more harmful, but that doesn't really justify poisioning your body in some other way. With stuff like cannibis and marijuana, which doesn't seem to be particulary addictive (although I do know one guy who now claims he can't get to sleep without a spliff - it's sorta creeping me out) I prefere to take the same line I use at parties: "No thanks, it just ain't my style." People can poison themeselves all the want with booze/spliffs or whatever so long as they know what they're doing. Once you start getting into stuff like cocaine and actual alcohol addiciton though, that's different. Obviously.

Rather ironically, the only way that could happen would be if Jack Thompson ever actually seccesfully sued someone for "defamation of character" - I don't think it would work without some kind of precident. Also, our case would be a lot easier if we represented ourselves not as the industry (which would mean involving actual major corperations) but simply as an independent group, say, "The Video Gamers Union" or something. That way, we can represent our thoughts and arguments, in a court of law if need be, while others don't have to get involved if they don't want to.
