What Does the XBOX ONE Reveal Mean for Nintendo?
tapedeck replied to Zechs Merquise's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Must say that the more SONY and MS stuff I see, the more I think they are giving up on the younger crowd. If so, this would be to Nintendo's benefit. The Wii U may appeal based on a 'my first tablet' approach with Mario and co pulling the strings. Not sure if kids will 'get' the XBox One with voice recognition, motion control, web integration, HDD installations and TV integration... -
My concern is that if we are paying £49 for a game and have to jump through hoops to play it on other systems, what's gonna happen with £15 DVD/Blurays in the future? Surely a £49 RRP price point is price enough for using the content in the way you deem appropriate? They want 'more' money?? It's all about control. MS now have a box that can manipulate your spending habits. It's very iTunes-esque in some ways. Sure, it's good for the developers on the one hand as they will see money from pre-owned content but what about retailers and gamers? They will be the ones who ultimately suffer. Final thoughts: I think this is a bad move all around. In an effort to extrapolate more money from the consumer they are biting the hand that feeds them.

Talk about a Wii U turn...

Don't think he heard wrong. We all heard them say UT would be exclusive to XBox One. So then why apologise for the confusion if the guy heard wrong?

What Does the XBOX ONE Reveal Mean for Nintendo?

I think SONY's next unveiling will show a lot. Will they follow MS into the TV zone? They did this with their PlayTV add on for the PS3 so may just release it as an optional extra. Who knows. Nintendo also have the Tvii functionality and game pad with a TV button on it. I prefer this approach to X1’s voice/kinetic functionality but time will tell what the consumer wants. I'm dubious in general about voice recognition and gesture based control. Kinetic hurt my arms after awhile (reaching out to the TV) and voice recognition is still poor with many accents. To make this an integral selling point of the system is idyllic. I guess all 3 console makers are now making their systems 'more'. Nintendo even got NST to build a web browser for the Wii U. The NST that could make games. Maybe this is where the industry is heading. Maybe the digitally native generation want a box that is a multi-tasking one. Heck, even our phones can go online, control our TV's and play games. To expect a console to 'just be about the games' is probably dead and gone. So yeah, this unveiling adds more product to that sphere - but as ever, it will be the games that push the Xbox more than bing functionality. As for Nintendo, they'll always have their strong IP's. They'll be fine on the back of Mario and co. -
Wonder how big the PS4 is going to be... It may also incorporate PlayTV.

And VHS/Betamax

Is a console unveiling meant to answer questions or produce more confusion? Microsoft did a Nintendo. Congratulations! At least they didn't show Rare's new Kinect games...
-
Yeah, that cheering was canned. It cut off bluntly at one point. This smells like the 3DO all over again...
-
Should have called it XBox 1984... I think we can safely assume from the box/Kinect size that MS have resigned themselves to never capturing the Eastern market.
-
Sure it said UT is XBox exclusive.

That's insane. Gamers shafted again. Doesn't take rocket science to realise this could shaft retailers and gamers. If someone buys FIFA 14 second hand who gets the money? Do EA get a percentage or does it go straight to MS? Also: the notion of installing games onto HDD's boils my blood. I want to sit down and play a game, not install it on to my console first. This was like watching the unveiling of a new TiVO device. This isn't about gaming anymore. It's about owning your living room, taking your monies and controlling who you speak to and what you watch. Remember when gaming used to be less but so much more? Maybe I'm old and cynical but gaming, to me, is about escapism and fun not NFL dreamteams and talking to my TV trying to get it to understand my accent while doing hadoukens to bring a film up.

Yeah, as a kid I had THIS... It made things a little easier but I remember rarely checking the guide. Think I used the equivalent Yoshi's Island one more for those hidden red coins. Super Metroid remains the greatest jigsaw ever created.

Wish I'd taken the blue pill as well... Anyway...get the FOX engine on Wii U Konami and PES should be sweet. About time it had a new engine. Strangely it seems to have coincided with them finally nailing PES again with 2013 and 2013.

Shhh...It's rocket science!

Genius! But can't play video on iPad. Waaaaaaa!

The saddest thing about this whole situation is that the likes of EA hold a lot of sway and they have the power to force the home console business into a 1-system, pre-packaged, annualised sequel approach. If EA drop Nintendo forever, they are another step closer to such approach. One I believe they want. As it stands, the SONY and MS systems may as well be turning into clones with a few similar titles to separate them. And where their own IP's exist, even that's getting a bit boring to me. For every Halo there's a Killzone. For Every Gran Tourismo, a Forza. It just becomes somewhat tit-for-tat. Indies are key here and SONY, MS and a few third parties did step up with unique experiences, but those excursions usually end up being fleeting not becoming a normality in the industry. At least Knack on the PS4 looks interesting but it's the exception, not the norm. So from a creative point, the industry requires the SEGA's and Nintendo's as they offer a unique, individual experience inside a wholly unique setup. I miss the SEGA consoles as much as their games and I get the love for the Gamecube controller but is that SNES controller blueprint all this industry affords in control? I've said it before but comparing the 90's football games scene to today shows how far this industry has gone backwards in some areas. All we really have now for consoles are yearly FIFA and PES games. And to a lot of people, PES is dead. Developers such as EA are seemingly more bothered about authenticity. Is that healthy? I don't believe so. But the likes of EA have created this and now have a monopoly as they strive fore more and more authenticity across all their genres. But I still think that EA ditching Nintendo to go after 'Gen 4’ is a loss for both parties. It will weaken both the EA and Wii U brands.

Unknown for Legends, but I would imagine it would follow the origins storyline which you can view online (Youtube?) In that game there were a number of great bosses and an overarching storyline. I felt that game was a bit like the 2D Mario games where you have so much fun you aren't really bothered so much about the story aspects.

Awesome ending. Would have loved Frankie to have got that shot in but great game in the end. Thought Ramirez had a shocker but his resolve won that corner.

Kids, Marriage, Maternity Leave, Conforminggg

Lttp but agree with the jist of Flink's viewpoint. I turned 30 this year and although in a relationship, we both have NO plans for kids and everyone thinks we should...because I'm 30! Funny. Most of my mates have kids and are settled down and they love it and it's like their whole life. Their social streams are constant pictures of their kids doing what I would call 'normal' stuff but it's like they are super special and unique and now every decision/conversation revolves around their kids. That's kinda expected but I think once you've had kids they do become your world so you can lose a little of who you are as you focus on them so much. I'm a firm believer that I want to experience my career, myself and the world on my terms as much as possible before committing to something so huge. And yeah, we have major population concerns and I feel as if bringing a kid in to the world should be a major talking point, not just an expectation. I also work with kids everyday so the box is 'ticked' in some ways. -
The game should come with a free Ukulele! That's be a bonus I'd be interested in so I could sit and play/whistle to this...

Another banana promotion would have been good!

NINTENDO @ E3: Towards Hype and Hyperboles
tapedeck replied to Fused King's topic in Nintendo Gaming
If Nintendo are 'stuck' on how to evolve F-Zero/1080/WaveRace, I'd like them to at least do what they did with the 3DS launch window with remakes. Although tasked as 'filler' to plug the gaps in the launch lineup, the N64 remakes of OoT and StarFox were great. I'd therefore like to see more classic remakes on the 3DS. F-Zero, WaveRace and 1080 would be great handheld games to jump into, play online and streetpass with. Unfortunately, Yusuke Amano (Star Fox 3DS dev) stated that "just making multiplayer parts of existing games playable online isn't enough to create a satisfying experience for users. The popular online games work in lots of things, so they play well online - and if we wanted to satisfy everyone who bought the game, the costs required for including online support would be vast." Amano also cited that there were other reasons, such as time limits in development, and the developers' increased focus towards the graphics, in an attempt to amplify the appeal of the Nintendo 3DS console. I'm not confident of this approach then...Yet Nintendo still need to grab their franchises by the scruff of the neck and drag them into the modern age! However, I still believe Nintendo would do well to imitate their 3DS software lull approach with the Wii U with N64/Gamecube games with a shiny new luck of paint. It would plug gaps at least... There are sections of Nintendo gamers clamouring for more racers (like me!) yet with third party games such as Project CARS in the works, Nintendo probably don't see a need to compete with such a vastly liscenced/developed game. Instead, it would make good business sense to remaster their classics like they are doing with Windwaker, adding in minor aspects such as new areas/aspects and Miiverse functionality whilst building new outings. (The approach they are taking with Zelda then.) E3 needs to show me that Nintendo are serious about 'U' (read: core gamers) by leveraging their e-Shop, giving us titles like Geist, Eternal Darkness, 1080 and more third party games from the N64/GC era. They all deserve a place on the e-Shop and Nintendo fans are forever nostalgic. The classics have sway yet without new content from classic franchises like F-Zero/1080/WaveRace, I just don't know what I'm investing in everytime I buy a new Nintendo console. They bleed Mario and chums dry but don't re-invest in their other games which have proven that Nintendo can 'out-do' other third party games in genres such as racing/sports. E3 will show us where they are going. I'm hoping it's good. -
As a Sunderland fan, praying for an Arsenal win. Then let the clear out commence!
