  1. I might take back what I just said about new IPs being hard to come by actually, with the advent of such things such as wiiware, it may just be the platform for discovering the next big thing, and snapping them up to develop something bigger and better for Ninty on a proper wii disc and stuff. Odds might be slim though...
  2. When I started reading this, I considered what IPs/franchises were left, and my mind turned to Donkey Kong, which I thought could be pretty brilliant on the Wii. However, I suddenly remembered what I probably consider Nintendo's biggest loss, the loss of Rareware. I think the Wii was practically made for Rare, and if they hadn't sold out, the Wii would be satisfying a core who are currently a little restless, such as myself. They made truly great games, and I think they could have made magic with the Wii. Rare aside, the problem with the popular franchises is as you pointed out Tapedeck. They were hailed as best evers, they had enormous achievements, and I think it's a case that Nintendo's luck is coming to run out, could they honestly maintain that legendary momentum forever? No. I think it's coming to time being up, the target's shifting to the 'casual' and 'non-gamer' market as a result. When last was a new Nintendo exclusive IP born? Pikmin, granted, was a good one, but how far can it go? Nintendo needs a new Mario, something they can pimp all over the place in all styles of games, but it unforuntately appears that fat italian plumbers may be a rare and dying breed. I just hope they don't go the same way as Sega, though it looks unlikely as I'm sure the DS and Wii are lining their pockets well, I just think it's Nintendo not putting it to some good use of getting some really good development on board! If Sega could recreate their former greatness on Wii, well, it could benefit both very much. EDIT:What DID happen to H.A.M.M.E.R and Disaster Day of Crisis? They looked like two brilliant new games, that just disappeared. It seems that any glimpse of hope turns out to be a flop, or just doesn't turn out at all.
  3. I'm pretty sure they do to some extent, cos in your final year your final payment is less than in previous years, as it doesn't account for the summer. Today's Status:No work done, plenty of foruming done, inc. bouncing off the walls at idea of importing brawl.
  4. I still don't entirely know what these mafia games are all about, there's so many I haven't dared venture into one yet. I think DSes are indeed a must, though I'm half going to just meet cool forumites, as weird as it sounds, I've already got ideas in my head that I can imagine being pretty cool, so I'm looking forward to things. If there's lots of us with DSes too, we could maybe even have a minature tournament type thing with some sort of prize treat(no idea what) on the rest of us, I feel like it'd be nice.
  5. While I wouldn't call it the best, it definitely had its merits, which is what we need to see. I liked the new battle modes it brought, such as shine battle and the bob-omb thing(making a nice return in MKDS), but namely, one brilliant feature was the two player tag team thing! It's probably a bit overlooked, but I think back now to having four of us in a room split screening and sorting out the karts between ourselves! The friendly rivalries it caused(normally within the team lol) gave it that slight edge, competition is nice, but so is sharing, and it combined both pretty well imo!
  6. Thought the same as my post might have implied :P. There's probably a chance of lawsuits though, and it's best to avoid it. I'm gonna wait on you guys and see if any wiis get bricked up, then I think I might take the decisive option of failing life and getting brawl, score!
  7. Would it be particularly crass to start taking bets on the day? My mum said she saw something about a few weeks on the news, so I'm confused as to whether it's terminal or not???
  8. I think that thought had already occured to most people, only way I'd bring my wii was if you gave me lots of money, or a decent fixed abode in which to play it, or both :p. The hassle of lugging one around london all day would also be quite unfeasible, especially combined with drinkage, sweet sweet drinkage.
  9. Amazing vid, makes me think we need some sort of Nature thread! I do marvel at some of the wonders nature holds, love watching the documentaries and stuff, especially david attenborough's(shame the Life series has finally come to an end ). Still, absolutely brilliant vid, love it when the buffulo just flung that lion into the air, the drama with the crocs, all amazing. Wish the buffalo hadn't been so timid, such a large number of them and they didn't just rush the lions, though I guess they might have been considering the calf's welfare too. Spectacular.
  10. Godmode and unlimited pocket space plz. I'd say the save/load thing, but I know I'd forget to save at a crucial moment.
  11. Thanks guys, especially Stefkov, I was trying to avoid a shareware one but kept finding free trial shareware stuff. I'll try them out later, and see how it goes. Ty!
  12. Bit of a gripe, isn't it? I feel it's the way things'll go now, I felt Galaxy was a bit more aimed towards a casual player, if I compared it to 64, but maybe it's just me and my paranoia. As for the speed of the games, I didn't feel DoubleDash was all that slow! A bit, maybe, but the karts really flew around the place for me from what I remember(not played for quite a while) but then again, it might have just been a sneaky trick of the mind. I found it terrible when I tried to play one night, not in a bad way, just really...unusual! I DID feel however, that DD wasn't up to MarioKart scratch, I dunno why not, I guess it was just in the shadow of the great revolutionaryness that MK64 brought, and I think it's a problem I have with alot of current gen like Sunshine, Galaxy, TP, etc compared to their 64 counterparts. They're all good games, great games, if you look at them alone. In their respective serieses however, they just don't feel it, they don't have that extra edge to set them apart from the previous. SMK, whilst I never owned it, WAS a very good game, and quite a challenge(I didn't feel so much the same with DD). Twas bloody fun too, and bright and colourful! There was something nice about its basicness, I can't explain. Super Circuit was a good game, basically a very enhanced remake of SMK, and I found it quite enjoyable in single player, again, a large challenge with the coins=speed aspect. lol, i thought it was supposed to be a clever comment on how cool mario is.
  13. I feel I'm gonna reiterate what alot of people have said. First off, I was started off in gaming probably by my cousins having a gameboy, my mum later got us one and at some point we got a SNES+SuperScope for christmas too(I can't even remember which came first!). Of course, from that, I've been a Nintendo man for alot of the time, growing up, I was the sort who'd take the view everything else is inferior, as you do growing up, you're immature and have a bias, trying to maintain the identity you have, I guess. I didn't get my first non-ninty system til 2005, a nice Xbox Crystal As for the actual question, has gaming gotten better for me? I feel like saying no. I feel there's too many factors though. When you're younger, you appreciate it more I think, plus everything seems to last longer as a kid too! When you're a kid, you don't have the means to be getting a new game too often, you get like 3 a year maybe, if you're lucky! As a result, you play the crap out of what you have, and as some people have said here, now it's less done. I, too, buy games, play them a bit, then move onto the next without getting the first's full play out of it, except in occasional cases. I'm not as pleased as I was as a kid, I guess. I need more stimulation! That's not saying why things haven't gotten better though. I feel games actually lasted longer when I was younger, maybe I found them harder cos I was younger, maybe they actually were, but I feel some games these days are just too short, or too easy! I think in SMB1(on All-Stars) I've only gotten to the final bowser once, or twice, and that was a combined effort with me and my bro and over a long time thanks to savery. It felt longer, but if I went back now, I feel I could do it easily in a couple hours. Having said that, I can't help but think how Galaxy just wasn't as hard as SM64. Maybe things haven't gotten worse as such, they've just gotten different, things have changed, and I feel as I'm growing up I'm turning into old man rummy, reliving the old days, how it was when I was a kid, the glory days! Punk kids these days don't know how good they had it. Do I plan on still gaming when I'm grey around the ears, raising kids and grandkids? You can bet your ass I am, I wanna keep gaming til I die, and I'm all for it in kids in a sensible manner(my mother only let us play on weekends until I was well into secondary school and started ignoring her, so consider that in my grand scheme of things). I don't think I could ever leave gaming behind, it was like...the biggest part of me growing up. My parents still made jokes and comments about my gaming habits right up until I was 18, though they were getting off the mark as I was growing out of it a bit. My uncle still says it's weird seeing me without a gameboy in my hand(i used to take it everywhere family wise, sit in the corner and play, otherwise I got bored). For something I could do on weekends and didn't have alot of, it was my defining characteristic as a child and teen, gaming and spiderman were my two biggest passions, and I don't think I'll ever be able to leave either of them behind. I totally agree with that too, it's much more....available? accessible? Back in the day you had to shell out money for a magazine or so, wait on a wednesday afternoon for your pitiful 30minute tv programme about games to come on! But with the internet, you can find out anything anywhere for free and in a matter of minutes. Not only that, but they go so much hand in hand, the internet is a great medium for gaming, and so full of gaming related humour and references, I'd say gaming was a big part of the early users of the internet and has had a profound influence on its development. Btw Tapedeck, brilliant idea for a thread.
  14. So who out there is doing the best price on a freeloader+brawl, inc p&p?
  15. Resourceful Bastards too though, Btw martinist, that possibly makes it into my top 50 best things I've ever seen, and I've seen dead people! Tea motherfuckerfucker, tea motherfucker! Are they a joke, or serious? Cos I thought they actually had some nice rhymes...
  16. This is most intriguing, I glanced over it cos I thought 'meh, freeloader' not being much of a big importer in the past, generally due to being poor/lazy to find good places, but now they're everywhere, and it just dawned upon me earlier, I could get one of these and a copy of Brawl! That prospect excites me, but I also think I'd rather have the European version for some reason. My biggest gripe however, is how do we know this won't get 'fixed' by Nintendo with a WiiUpdate? Will Datel offer new discs to all existing customers if/when/each time it happens? I dunno if I wanna shell out for something that'll be redundant after a week due to Ninty's quick snippery... EDIT: If I was Nintendo, you know what I'd do? I'd release an update for the Wii's WFC, without which you couldn't access any online in games anymore, leaving wiiloaders with the option of keeping it solo and crying over lost online, or updating and losing their wiiloader capabilities. We should just be grateful Nintendo aren't up to my genius caliber though. EDITEDIT: May it be possible that Datel found a permanent workaround the disc thing though? I just thought of that thing with the super fast disc change to get the original gc AR/freeloader to work. Ok, I'm actually reading the thread now(it seemed like 15 pages of saminess at first glance) and I request some ketchup with that, if you have any. Goddamn, now my whole post makes me feel smaller than this writing. Thanks for that, the lateness and procrastination has made me foolish , I've been reading random pages at a time lol. We're an important market, in the same way it saves us money importing/buying from abroad due to our strong currency, it also means that our market brings in a nice sum to their pockets, due to our strong currency. I should imagine there's all economic predictions and projections based off it too which we'll scuff up, though I'd say an insignificant amount of people will be importing anyway(<5% of total). It was probably addressed with Tales's post, but to me that says that when you put wiiloader in, it bypasses everything. If you put the game in and it HAS to install something to work, then putting wiiloader back in, removing, and putting the game disc in again will allow you to do so, and then wiiloader will bypass the new firmware/update anyway and allow you to play. According to someone in this thread, they did with the white striker's gamecubes? I have no idea what they were talking about though, I didn't know they existed, or that it was called strikers on gc.
  17. I wanna see a celebrity with a countdown to death go out with a bang and do some crazy stuff! Of course, I hope it doesn't happen to any celebrities, but if it was me, and famous or not, I'd do me some crazy things! Shame about Swayze, though I only remember him for Ghost.
  18. Foiled your crazy plans to dress up in some sort of costume and scare people away from some sort of location, eh? Tough! *gets in scooby van to foil more eevil* I find alot of things people do annoying, generally not people though, though there's exceptions, namely people who do like...everything I find annoying. To be honest, the best part of this thread for me was reading Daft's first line, as I just imagined him in your same situation but punching out some lady sub for being deaf towards the beginning of the situation.
  19. Hmm, some of that(ok, maybe alot ) went a bit over my head, as I said, I've got NO idea where to start. I only really know vague things about JET, which is what I learnt from a teacher back in school who'd done it, and taught us a bit of Japanese. I went on their website a few years back, and it did seem rather tight on restrictions and stuff, so I decided to leave it for a while. I assume the Bachelors isn't important whether it's BA or BSc or even BEng, as long as it's a bachelors? And what about if it's even a crap bachelors, like only a pass(I have no intention of getting less than a 2-2 mind). I guess I'll start looking into it after I get it though, I'm thinking if I do it, it'll be after next summer sometime, but I wanna start getting prepped early, cos as I said, I know nothing! EDIT:Hahaha, three hours later I'm still awake, and currently wondering if any deaf people across the land are awake. At the turn of 4oclock, The Hits seem to have 'Signed by The Hits' which I always assumed was just another name for another chart/excuse for playing music. How foolish I was! It's actually actual signage, as in, person in the bottom right, and it's brilliant watching them dancing and signing to songs. There's such a range of music, and some of it looks like they just shouldn't be dancing to it.
  20. I didn't know you were going on one of those teach in japan things! Is it all detailed in your blog, cos it's something I'm quite interested in doing once I have my degree(this is my last year), but I don't know ANYTHING about applying for it, who to apply with, how early I have to apply, and it's a big commitment, and I thought I'd worry after I get my degree. Speaking of which, I've done NO WORK . I read a few pages of a small book, planned out some shit in my head, did none of it, then spent 2 hours trying to rip the opening and end theme from Desmond's through my computer, 4oD(what a megabitch), and Audacity, encountering problems, not knowing what I'm doing, but finally getting it into an MP3 form for my phone I proceeded to ring myself numerous times also once I had finished. I tells ya, procrastination is the best motivation for doing productive stuff, as long as it's not what you're sposed to be doing, or in any way related.
  21. A typo, or a terribly great pun? Either way, high five! I reckon the reason for the staggering, if I didn't already say, it probably to suck the market for all it's got. I imagined they'd leave MK Wii til a *bit* later in america, so that people have gotten over the brawl rush and are after the next big thing(well, it wont be as big really), but I expect it's one reason for not rushing brawl off out here, what with Wii Fit and MK to temporarily satisfy us. Though, whilst this does look good, at least two of my friends'll need to get it before I do, and I'm gonna need to play it a bit too before I buy it.
  22. $5 to break the law?? Sounds like a bargain to me! Seriously, if someone's gonna charge me to clean up the mess of others, I'll probably go the same way as them in the matter.
  23. Does anyone know a way to convert FLV files into Avi? I have some ripped FLV vids, and I wanted to convert them to AVI or DivX to shrink them down sizewise. Ideally, I'd like them as DivX, but I dunno if I can. I tried a bit of googling, but mainly turned up things that convert TO flv, rather than from.
  24. Ah, as you get older you lose that ability, and thus accidental pedos are born.
  25. I actually considered this a little the other day. A pokemon kart, that is, after someone mentioned pikachu/pichu in the mario kart wii thread. It WOULD be a shameless cash in, but I see it hitting the rather large pokemon market well, and if it had enough uniqueness to it, a Pokekart could work, but it'd only really work, I don't see it as being an outstanding bit of gaming, it'd show as the shameless cash in that it is. The efforts could be concentrated better, as Kurtle said, on some nice and shiny new games.
