Well, then you're just being rubbish and don't really want a hobby, I reckon you're just trying to get posts and start threads! You can't just dismiss everything before you try it! Besides, I didn't tell you to go out and do excercise, I told you to do a martial art.

Why did we never find out what this was?

For me in regards to emulation/emulators is that I understand alot allow(quite sensibly) custom button mapping. I think this is essential for VC titles, because tbh(and im sure im not the only one) I have always been reluctant to buy MORE accessories, i.e the classic controller(rather amusingly about to be updated to a more friendly, superior model) so I tend to play VC with my good old GC pad(no cost of batteries, or hassle of wireless death and battery scramble). This is all well and good for a few titles, but along come SNES titles, and Ninty lost a good few sales from me trying to even begin to imagine playing Super Mario World, or DKC, or other various games, with the GC pad. My thoughts are that they were looking to make money, or keep it 'simple' for the 'casuals' by not adding button mapping options etc, and it really puts me off them even more! A decision for yourself, really. Though as one dude said it(think it may have been in my link), it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

RIGHT! An update, an update is mighty confusing, this is some sort of phantom shit, hopefully people who know more might be able to offer me some solutions? my laptop, which broke. My mate leant me his HD today so i could back up all my shit, then do a system restore. Whilst he was round, i backed up all of my C drive, but not the D drive(which i debated doing cos it might be saved) but i couldnt do it nor set the system restore to do at the time cos I was heading to aikido. So tonight, about 30-40min ago, i turned the laptop back on; external HD still connected through USB, when i come back it says it's doing a scan of the G drive(the external HD) so i leave it for a bit, then go downstairs just now and my laptop appears to have fixed itself and boots(well, is booted) into Vista normally again without any problems. Previously, it'd never boot, only into safe mode when i tell it to. I am bloody confused as to how it magically fixed itself. The *only* other thing i did was to change one of the RAM sticks(1GB>2GB, so now I have a total of 4GB), but if the RAM was fucked surely it wouldn't have booted into safe mode? Anybody got any magic answers, what the hell has occured! Srs, answers wanted.

The world is very largely misinformed regarding the legality you claim to downloading ROMs of the games you own/owned, and a reason I didn't want it to become an issue in this thread to be argued. The simple crux of it? It's always illegal unless you personally made your own personal backup off your own personal copy. Everything else is largely a myth. For those who are after a bit more info about BootMii, I found this page rather informative; http://www.mikeandheth.com/games/116-bootmii-installation-options.html

If you bought them and stored them on your PC, hopefully you stored them exactly as you got them, just put them back on how they came off. If you can't remember, just go back to the Wii Shop Channel and re-download, I guess. As for region free booting, I also use Gecko, though there seems to be two versions about atm, they seem to be relatively the same though, I've not discovered any significant differences/advantages of one over the other. As for bootmii, I kind of understand it. Basically it can install onto your wii to force it to boot from an SD card if present, a bit like sticking a floppy into PCs back in the day, it'd always check for a floppy boot first. It's for various reasons apparently, but one major one being recovery if the wii gets messed up and stuff, as it's before any part of the Wii you should be able to boot it fine like.

Being able to see so much more potential that was unused and wasted by the developers of the game. I hate playing a game with obvious flaws that could be easily fixed. Some games these days are also broken by being too easy, and too linear, my suspicions being for a more 'casual' market.

On XP or Vista? What make/model is the comp/laptop and did it come with any CDs or disks?
-
Did you get DVD stuff working then? DVDx is basically a bit of a hidden app that installs just to let other stuff use the DVD drive, but it isn't any DVD player in itself, but once you have DVDx and one of the media players I think it should theoretically work. Does anyone know much about Wii saves, and any kind of communities which play around with them? Now that I have a viable way to back up my saves, I do feel like fiddling with them a little bit...

So those of you may remember me saying about needing to restore my laptop which I haven't yet done but very well might do soon, but I'm also considering maybe making a move over to Linux, just for a change I guess, but I know absolutely nothing about it beyond the name really. What's the best linux distro to use? How different are they all, and more importantly, how similar is it to windows? I've used macs but I'm born and raised on windows, is it vastly different, or what?
-
You wanna be careful messing with your registry. And using keys you haven't paid for. Why do you need to change it anyway, can't you just leave it be?
-
Are you guys all using the same app for DVD playback? I should imagine that has a large part to play, though I've still yet to try out actual DVD playback on it. For me it's not so much something I need, what a DVD player in my room and my 360 next to the Wii, besides which I rarely ever watch proper DVDs anyway!

Nownow dazzy, you shouldn't be asking in this thread! I don't want to give people reason to close this thread down. It was rather quick and easy though, and similarly to you guys I didn't want to for fear of brickings and because I didn't(and largely still don't) understand alot of it. I realised I'd never let go of brawl though, and my drive is showing bad signs, so I went for it knowing I'd find a fix if it all went tits up, but not everyone has that option. Anything you do to your wii is at your own risk, something you'll hear alot if you delve into this :p I do want to echo tapedeck's post, I forgot to mention it as I haven't checked it out too much, but one of the homebrew apps(and homebrew is all so simple and user friendly on the wii it seems, you can get one homebrew app that lets you browse the selected best homebrew apps throught tinternets from the comfort of your wii!) is a mediaplayer, that can(apparently, I've not tried it yet) play DVDs, but also DivX files(at least, only thing I tried) from a USB stick! I liked it because it, whilst being a bit more unwieldy than the 360, actually allowed me to stick my subs files on along with a video file. I find the 360 subtitles feature only seems to work for DVDs, as in proper DVDs with subs on them. Not only that, but upon comparison, I could have sworn my wii was giving me better quality than my 360 off the same video file! Admittedly I run on a crappy old CRT, and also was using a video file that was not of the best quality, I have yet to test it again though I keep meaning to! As for region free gaming, I know for sure Wii region free works for Wii games, GC games I presume there's a way to do it too but I don't know if it's the same as Wii or anything as I haven't looked into it.

I caught this for the first time last night, actually not what I was expecting it to be at all, thought it'd be one of those documentary things rather than a big brother stylee experiement. It's interesting to say the least, and amazing how...terrible some of the kids can be. I mean, I'm pretty bad, I live at home, mooch and leech off the house(though I ask before I take stuff) and I never get nor ask for money, unless it's a loan. Some of those kids though, unbelievable! Especially that Nicola one, she's just shocking, especially at the age of 25. I agree, sort of, that the wrong guy went. He WAS a twat, but those two girls on his team were alot worse. I know it was a task as well, but what he did(not being a bossy twat bit, getting help and stuff) is hardly that bad a thing to do, I know I'd have done the same in the real world! That 'chav' guy I was a bit wary of at first, but I think I do rather like him and the other dude, did feel a bit bad for that girl he called dirty, but she sort of did deserve it, a tiny bit. It was ridiculous how minutes before they show you her mum talking to her telling her she has to fix up cos these people won't tolerate it, and she just cut into her, didn't seem to be listening at all!

I'm a city boy, but I've never really had any much experience of the countryside, so I can't really say I've got the most informed of decisions, I do have a feeling it wouldn't be for me though. I go out alot and need places to go/things to do(though then again alot of it is chilling in parks and stuff) but most of all I need my transport links! That's the one good thing about where I am, transport could be alot worse. I dunno how I'd feel about living up in central though. I think I'd like it, but I can't be sure.

I think it's because of the similarities between the GC and the Wii, coders and homebrewers have been able to get a bit of a jumpstart on how to utilise the Wii, think it makes things easier to port for it, like the aforementioned Super Mario War(which is worth checking out, it's fun for at least a little while just cos it's so crazy). I just found a few pages with info about things like IOSes, BootMii and all of that, I'm starting to understand things a bit better now.

Right, before this thread goes any further I want to put in some rules. 1. No discussion of Wii/GC piracy. 2. No links to where to get anything in order to 'hack' your wii and install the HBC. No requesting it in here either. 3. I think old school emulation is out of the question too, though really there's not much to discuss there. 4. Be nice. So basically, I've seen people mentioning the HBC from time to time on here, and I recently hacked my Wii myself(about 2 weeks back) because I can see my drive is slowly starting to fail and pulling in discs, and I didn't have to heart to give up on my NTSC copy of brawl with all my records(I was using the freeloader swap each time). I decided to hack it in the hopes of finding some way to region free boot(as I did ) but along the way I've discovered this whole other world. There's tons of homebrew apps and games and all sorts out there, and lots of technical terms and things I'd never heard of and yet don't understand, so I thought I'd make a thread for all of those who use the HBC to discuss it. What little gems have you discovered with it? What do you use it for mainly? I was quite impressed with some of the stuff it's got going for it, there's probably still tons of little things I've missed out on. Though one of my favourites so far(for when I actually have the people and wiimotes) is probably Super Mario War. Apparently twas ported from the PC, but it's a strange little multiplayer mario...fighter, for lack of a better word. Your aim? To kill/jump on everyone else's head more than they jump on yours! Last man standing wins(plus a ton of other modes).

But...how could one possibly have a jazzy fate?? You're so strange ReZ. Oo, just remembered, in between my crazy-ass everybody's dying/trying to kill me scary dreams, I had an awesome dream that I was at another N-E meetup, somehow it was only 10minutes away from my house, which wasn't even my house. Crazy.

You sure do love your arachnophobia Danny :p For me, I think what scares me about spiders is that I find them hugely evil and largely unnatural. By evil, I don't mean evil like they worship satan(who knows what tehy ARE doing in those webs all day though) but that they seem so...cold, vicious, mechanical. A rat or a mouse, I do not feel that. Spiders make webs, they can practically fly, they appear from nowhere, they move so fast, and they birth a shit tonne more too. Scariest thing I ever saw? . They're stone cold hunters. They're evolving, more smart, more effecient, not more humane. I saw something on the same programme about semi-social/communal spiders. Rats, mice, all that jazz, I find more...likeable. Other insects don't bother me like spiders, and I love moths and butterflies, most others just annoy me but I can easily ignore. Though on the subject of killings; I try my hardest not to kill stuff now. Used to kill flies, spiders, various bugs etc as a kid. Now I'll try if I can to get it out of the house in a humane way, or if it's a spider, vacuum it up not knowing whether it's survived or not(people say they can just crawl out again) but I'll leave the vacuum well away from where I am after, just in case. I did kill a wasp on saturday, but he was trying to make love to my face(who wouldnt eh) and I didn't want to take the risk of a sting on the beautiful thing. I once didn't kill a mouse with a shoe when told to, only to accidentally kill the poor bugger with a bin like 30 seconds later. I've indirectly killed a few things too, more like bug/animalslaughter, than outright murdery.

Are you trying to imply my face is not jazzy enough, Mr.ReZ??

Internet won't work on MacBook in certain locations
Rummy replied to Eenuh's topic in General Chit Chat
Hmm, then that sounds to me to be a problem with your macbook, at least in part but essentially the root of the problem. It might have been there before, but something changed that made it noticeable, but considering everything else can work in said dead areas, I can't see how it can't be the macbook. As for what you can do with it, I'm afraid I know very little about macs but imagine it'd be a hardware issue either way, maybe the wireless inside has died a bit in some way? -
What aspect of life do you like the leeeeast?
Rummy replied to Fierce_LiNk's topic in General Chit Chat
Hmm, I think that kind of summed me up alot better than I managed lol. I think it might be a big part of what annoys me sometimes. -

I'm subjected more to the shaving lately what with axing the beard and taschio, though tbh it's like 5 minutes of work and simple as. I manage to not cut myself. I never understand how some people seem to imply they take forever to shave, though I think they(and here I'm really talking just about one guy I know) just think it makes them more manly to go on about beards. Kind of like a 14year old getting his first tash signs. Buuuut...I think I have to agree with Odwin! Time! I seem perpetually busy, with no time to do everything I want, or I have so many things to do and not enough time I end up not deciding and not doing any, and thus get nothing done! Money! Money is silly too, when you get a good job, you're all monied up, but shorter on time. When you have time, you probably don't have much of a job, so you haven't got the monies. All part of the money-time continuum, I guess. Atm, it IS summer, but I just want to perpetually spend time chillin with people and friends. However, maybe it's due to time, but everyone seems to be in the 'grind', following life protocol and procedure and doing things, I wanna just drop everything and do something silly for a week. A week of new stuff, cheap stuff, just us stuff. A week maybe, of nothing. Some people really struggle with doing nothing except enjoying each other's company. I think that might be what I like least, I don't feel myself being in the grind, but can't easily find anyone else who isn't. I have got a few though, so I guess I be blessed it's not worse. -
You're all rather strange.
