It got played at a Meat once! Or even twice! I do believe Cube brought it! I can't entirely remember it, but I remember thinking it was basically resistance/mafia with the elements you mentioned(Merlin and...isn't there a fake merlin or something? Did I make that up??). I've often thought it's totes possibly to play Resistance online or something, though I think there's a big aspect of the communication(or lack thereof) that goes on that adds to it, but meh - never know until you try eh!

Sploosh-o-matic looks interesting , but they really really really need to add some damn new Inkbrush setups. Feel it's the most neglected weapon 'type' right now.

This is another thing - insurance companies can be absolute arseholes with the payout. I almost feel like they actively look to not do so, not helped much by the people who attempt to defraud them too. It's mad, cos I actually have a lot of insurance(fully comp car, life/sickness assurance, buildings+contents cover, travel insurance) but I as I said it's only because I have to have it - though contents I got cos I felt it wasn't tons more for the year vs possible loss. Didn't get none of that insured away from home stuff though.

I also loved the fixed colours - especially as the cyan is one of my favourite inks to have in the game! Also felt we weren't doing too terribly when I played yesterday despite some of the previously shameful Pop showings(I barely recall saturday night's games, but I recall not doing great generally) - just a shame it didn't all translate to the end! Another alternative would be to have SplatFest on its own option/dealie and have it run for longer - so that people can opt out and in as it were, and people can then also still just play regular turf wars with friends(gives an option to put even more stages in current rotation too). I know someone mentioned earlier - I'd really love if they did a Mario vs Luigi splatfest with red and green inks! What else do people reckon might come up for future ones?

I don't trust insurance much, and I don't think I've ever had to claim on any I've bought - I pretty much only ever buy it because I bloody have to. I'll get single-trip insurance if I'm going abroad(I think I've got the nationwide cover for domestic) - but that's usually to the US and given the health system it's a fairly worthy gamble on the off-chance of something terrible happening to me required medical attention of any sort.

Got a strange feeling of deja vu then realised the article's a few years old and that I've read it before! I thought it was a bit aggressive, but I did agree with the main points. Tbh I don't really tend to pre-order anything myself these days - I don't think there's as much issue in the way of shortage of games given the amount of retailers we have access to(both online and off). Sometimes I'll 'order' a game online before its release but I dunno if I call that a pre-order, and it's not usually for exclusive pre-order bonuses(don't really agree with that at all). I think ShopTo did a lot when they came on the scene - the speed of their pack+shipping and receipt of goods by if not before release day was just very impressive - took a lot away from in-store pre-orders and added a bit to their weight/credibility with suppliers then. Their prices were also tempting - I'd generally not pre-order anything unless it was definitely the price - I'd prefer to get something cheaper than sooner, sometimes.

Splatfest was a nice idea, and I liked the night-ness and different feel of the stages - but it was way too short for me. I haven't fired back up since yesterday shortly after it ended(so not had results yet) - but I was playing right up til 6 and there was no chance of me getting past Charismatic I think it was? Was like 24/50 or something. Would have been nice if they added more bonus tiers(ie the 2 points for scoring 400p, maybe 4 for 800, 6 for 1200 etc). I think a 48-72hr Friday-Sunday/Monday window would be much better if there was some added daily stage rotation.

So it turns out I don't really need to answer @Happenstance, Ike's summed it up excellently. and Whilst I admit it was never something I wanted - I have come to believe after this thread that it is the way forward. Soo.... Listen to the mods, do what they say, receive infractions otherwise.

Just keeps me wanting more! Halfway through now it seems(8 episodes total apparently) - hoping it doesn't disappoint towards the end. Getting tempted to go find/watch the original to keep my fix up though.
