  1. Copied from Reddit regarding legacy systems being found in the eShop’s code:
  2. Having a tough time against two of his former players in consecutive matches will probably grind Mourinho’s gears, and I couldn’t be more happy for Lamps and Derby with this result, because it was deserved. I don’t know where Mourinho goes from here, because if it’s not mistakes we’re seeing out on the pitch, it’s mistakes behind-the-scenes at this point. I don’t have much hope for him being at United come Christmas.
  3. Nintendo has clarified their policy regarding cloud saves granted by an Online subscription to IGN, revealing that: Good news, but why they didn’t just come out and say this to begin with...
  4. Yeah, I spoke about this in the Let’s Go thread too, it was such a smart move, and I agree that it seems like it was done purposefully. This is the kind of brand synergy that I love to see, and having speculation be about this new Pokémon being found in GO is a very smart yet simple way to add some speculation to conversations pertaining to Let’s Go, which there isn’t much to speculate about in all honesty. I think that it was great to see the community in GO be even more involved with the larger Pokémon community than they typically are, and given that Pokémon has been relatively quiet lately, I’m just glad that there was something to talk about. I’d love for them to continue with similar marketing for next year’s games. Maybe don’t have them necessarily be found in GO, but perhaps have a “Who’s that Pokémon?”-esque silhouette be found on the official website and the GO loading screens, so that the communities (which of course do already have some overlap) continue to interact, and everyone continues to be on the same page regarding such news.
  5. Just a follow-up to the Pokémon let loose on GO the other day, it’s now official: meet Meltan. I’m a big fan of the way that Meltan was revealed; considering that there’s not too much to speculate about regarding Let’s Go, it seems a smart move to have the speculation instead be about a previously unseen Pokémon left nameless for a few days.
  6. It’s official!
  7. If I recall correctly, I read that Sugiyama owns the rights to the Dragon Quest soundtrack (to some degree — I’m not sure whether that’s the entire soundtrack or something specific, like orchestral compositions) and it was his choice to not have the orchestral soundtrack included in the game. Apparently this is because he was worried that releasing the game with the orchestral soundtrack would negatively effect commercial sales (concerts, CDs, et al) of the soundtrack, which is why it is found in its physical form of the Collector’s Edition. If that’s true, then I wouldn’t hold your breath in anticipation for it. Even if that’s not necessarily the case, it seems like an odd piece of content to withhold from the initial release, only to have t included down the line, because the orchestral soundtrack has already been recorded. If the orchestral soundtrack is included in the Switch version of the game, then I think that it would only make sense to release an optional patch for the [Western?] PS4 version of the game allowing players to experience the orchestral soundtrack in the same way, much like a patch was put out in the West including the Japanese voice-acting for Persona 5 last year.
  8. We have some new footage courtesy of a trailer from Tokyo Game Show, featuring a first look at Troy Baker’s character: They also presented a plethora of (concept?) art by Yojo Shinkawa for the characters that we’ve seen in the game’s trailers up to this point. They also revealed Tommie Earl Jenkins’ character (it was previously rumoured that Idris Elba would be in the game, and it is currently speculated that Jenkins will be filling what might have been Elba’s role), a character that we have yet to see in a trailer. Finally, Kojima-san had a little to say about the game’s release date: If you’ll recall, Kojima Productions has previously mentioned that the game is intended to be released prior to the events of Akira (which takes place in 2019) and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Coupled with the fact that Sony/PlayStation executives have mentioned that this is the fastest turnaround that they’ve seen for a AAA game, and how Kojima-san now says that the prospective release date for the game hasn’t changed to this point, it seems like the game has been sailing along without any real hiccups on the development front. A 2019/early 2020 release certainly seems to be on the cards for now.
  9. Awesome. I’ve been thinking about upgrading my Phase One and Two DVDs to blu-rays for some time now, but I might just buy them individually, in the hopes of a 4K UHD Collection coming out down the line...but then again, this seems a good alternative for now, now that they’re (finally!) re-releasing the Phase One and Two boxsets on blu-ray.
  10. Oh, sure, there are probably plenty of jobs in the industry should a place close down, so that’s good to hear. It was more the fact that Ubisoft were inviting them along specifically, and especially to talk about job opportunities over provided food and drinks, which I thought was great.
  11. The Pokémon that leaked yesterday, which was talked about over in the Let’s Go thread, is now appearing in GO after the Chikorita event, and in increasing numbers.
  12. The Pokémon is now appearing in Pokémon GO after the Chikorita event, and in increasing numbers. Huh.
  13. This is pretty awesome.
  14. Coming to Switch, PS4, XBO, and PC in early 2019.
  15. The Final Season of The Walking Dead has also been cancelled — Episode 2 will be the final episode. I have to wonder if customers that had already purchased the season pass will be reimbursed, obviously not by Telltale, but perhaps by PlayStation/Xbox/etc.? Seems like a sorry state of affairs, but the writing has been on the wall for some time now. I guess we can only hope for the best for everyone being laid off, I can’t imagine what working in an environment where the place is clearly in trouble - and has been for a long time - would be like. 16. Twenty minutes or so into this week’s EZA podcast, and as much as I love the Allies...Jones really does say some odd things from time to time. For instance, we’re 18 months into the Switch’s lifespan, and he says that he was beginning to worry that we wouldn’t get Animal Crossing on the Switch at all prior to last week’s announcement. He then goes on to imply that the games cater to only a tiny corner of gamers, despite it easily being one of Nintendo’s most successful modern franchises?
  17. Wasn’t really sure whether to put this here or in the GO thread, but I suppose that news of it coming was first revealed in a Let’s Go trailer, so... The design of the new Pokémon being released later this year with Let’s Go, as advertised in trailers, appears to have leaked — in the network traffic of GO, of all places. So as to not spoil the potential surprise of this Pokemon’s design, it can be found hiding in the spoiler tag below. According to @Serebii, this design also has a shiny variant, and so is unlikely to be a placeholder. I have to wonder if the reveal of this Pokémon will be bumped up, assuming that this really is its design?
  18. Yeah, I get what you mean. From behind, at least, they remind me a lot in visual appearance of the ship found in No Man’s Sky and Starlink. Another reason might be that, with one ship in particular, it’s very clear where they drew inspiration from... ...the Porsche 917 Gulf, probably one of the most recognisable car designs from Le Mans. Also vaguely reminiscent of Stitch’s flying ship from Lilo & Stitch: Certainly not the most original of designs to be found in Star Wars, that’s for sure. I’ll probably check Resistance out at some point, but I’m not particularly fond of its setting, characters, or art style, from what we’ve seen and heard so far, so I might just wait until a home release or the launch of Disney’s streaming service (I would assume that it’s coming to that?).
  19. Yeah, I was thinking about this the other day, and reading through some old threads about Virtual Console on the Switch...and it just doesn’t add up. They've said that they’re done with the Virtual Console branding, and, beyond the NES stuff that’s just come out with Online, that’s all that they’ve really said outside of mentioning SNES being a part of Online last year in a page update. Could there be different tiers, giving access to different eras of games? Will we cycle through consoles on a monthly/seasonal basis? The £17.99 per year is such a low amount compared to an annual PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live subscription that there’s still room for them to increase it, add different tiers, or change their system entirely. It does feel like there are still a few questions which could, and probably should, have been answered by now — and, of course, the sooner the better. For instance, how long will we be waiting for SNES games? Will we continue to see staggered releases as is planned for their NES catalogue across a number of months, or could we potentially see a massive amount of games added, either adding games from several consoles at once (i.e. multiple SNES and GB games) or a huge chunk of a console’s catalogue at once? I think that adding online functionality to these games gets much better (at leat potentially) once we get into later consoles — I mean, multiplayer Super Mario 64, anyone? One specific game that comes to mind when talking about this, though, is Mother 3, a game long teased and rumoured to be coming West, and which, according to some rumours, is completely officially translated (I’ve heard that the fan translation of the Japanese game includes a word or two that I’m sure Nintendo wouldn’t include in their own translation) and just waiting for release. Would this game really just be dropped in as part of the Nintendo Online catalogue (we could be waiting a while if so, considering that it’s a GBA game) as opposed to getting a full release? In a similar vein, Earthbound Beginnings (Mother) was released only a few years ago for the first time in the West for the Wii U’s Virtual Console — what will become of this game now, and will it not be made available for purchase again? I suppose an Earthbound/Mother trilogy is within the realms of possibility, but then I feel like Nintendo would be sending mixed signals if something like that were to come to fruition. Its just such a weird one. On the one hand, there are tens of, if not around a hundred, games that I really want to play from Nintendo’s Virtual Console, most of which for the first time, and I’ve debated purchasing a Wii with all of its VC titles and a Wii U to transfer it to (don’t know if that’s still possible) in order to have access to its Virtual Console catalogue, and have even thought, momentarily, about just emulating some of these games. But the fact remains that the Switch, as a portable and home console, would easily be the best way to experience many of these games (and plough through them), so it’s frustrating that the easiest way to access many of these games would be to buy one of Nintendo’s old systems, of which Nintendo wouldn’t see a penny. I have a huge backlog (both a blessing and a curse in a situation like this) which spans multiple platforms, so I’m in no rush to dive into the Nintendo games on that list, but I’m a 19 year old with huge interest in games both present and past. I know that I’m not the only gamer who hasn’t played many of these games that wants to play them, due to age or accessibility, because more and more gamers are coming through, with a diverse approach to gaming which is rarely ever “I only want to play brand new AAA games”. In the modern age, with so many eyes seeing legacy titles for the first time and wanting to check them out thanks to recommendations from sources all over the internet, I can’t help but feel like Virtual Console came much too soon. The Wii eShop closes early next year, and as of earlier this year, you already can’t add points to your account to spend on games there. I only hope that Nintendo don’t take too long to move on to adding games from other consoles to their catalogue, and have a massive surge in legacy titles arriving on the Switch around the time that the Wii eShop closes. And, if they do, I hope that they don’t continue to drip feed legacy titles at such a slow rate, because, otherwise... I probably will have to seek out that Wii and Wii U.
