  1. I don't want to deal with rumours much, but I've heard from someone who owns a shop, that his distributor told him (..) December the 9th. I dunno how reliable this is. And he has his shop in Belgium, I don't know if that's a factor.. Maybe there will be slight variations in the release date across Europe.
  2. Hmm, I don't think they would announce a releasedate for Europe that's too far from the US and Japan dates.. I'm hoping for a date in between. I think we'll get the exact same set as the US, only for the price of € 250,- (they always do that :P). I'm a bit disappointed about Metroid, and the white-only console, but you never know, maybe they'll announce a black version just for Europe, just like the DS lite :P. I hope I have the money by then, but maybe I'll hold out for a black version, gives me more time to save money . Lots of cool little things though, even when I'll not be using them (much). Photo and video playback? Even music playback? And a mix of Pictochat and Animal Crossings communication functions, through WiiConnect24? Looks very cool. And the Flash plug-in for Opera.. News and Weather channels.. Very cool. I like how they suddenly announce you can communicate with your cellphone and things like that, something Microsoft also announced with Windows Live.. Maybe not on the same scale, but still, looks like fun.
  3. Hmm, with all the currencies (gulden here and then, euros here and now, pounds in the UK etc) I don't know if it's cheaper or more expansive these days.. I do remember realizing Super Mario 64 was cheaper then Super Mario Bros 3 was. ƒ 129,- and ƒ 149,- respectively, if I remember correctly. The last price also being the regular price for a new N64 game. About 3 gulden (guilders) used to convert to 1 pound, so say £ 50,-. I also remember a long time ago, seeing a Batman game for the NES selling for ƒ 180,- (£ 60,-). And I think I bought the N64 at launch for ƒ 499,-. Similar to the story above, it dropped ƒ 100,- not long after.. When a friend bought his . I didn't mind though. Personally I thought my N64 was well worth it.. And Conker's bad fur day was pretty expensive, also ƒ 180,- I think, but then again, it was pretty Rare (haha, whoei!).
  4. I don't like this. I would've liked this to be one of those last hits for the Cube, allthough granted, there are some other titles still too choose from (Zelda, Baten Kaitos, and StarWars Lego looks fun too). I can get this from a marketing viewpoint, but still it doesn't feel logical. You may have a Mario game at lauch, but this isn't a typical Mario game, and (I assume) still won't appeal to the casual gamer. It doesn't use the Wii hardware, being the kind of game it is, it won't get a graphical upgrade or new Wii controls (seriously, I will ignore the game if they do implement Wii controls ). It's weird, but I am less enthousiastic about this game as a Wii game than I was about this game as a Cube game. I'm still hoping it isn't true, I haven't seen an official statement. The only potential advantage I see is the retro controller. I hate the Cube controller, and I'm hoping the retro controller will be better, but I won't know that untill I can experience it for myself. They could use Cube disc in a Wii case. The idiotic public would be ignorant, but the game works fine on a Wii, Cube gamers can play it on a Cube as well, and Nintendo can market it as a Wii game, so the game can get more attention. Everyone would be happy.

  6. I did know this, but I can't remember for how long. It's very strange to realize.. How much a game, that's not originally a Mario game, left its mark in the franchise. Picking stuff up, Shyguys, pokeys, bobombs.. Quite a legacy. I didn't like SMB 2 as much as other Mario platforms, but I still like it (the atmosphere is just so different, more.. Well "dreamy"). I'd like to play the original though. But this must have been devastating to all the Doko Doki Panic fans at that time. Their game's legacy has been hi-jacked, what will they do when they want to make a sequel ?
  7. I like Forsaken too. It's one of the few console games that let you actually go in every direction.. Level design was very fun that way. The one thing I hate about this game is though, they screw this gameplay up a little by not having the options to turn off auto level and auto roll (as far as I can remember). It's a little bit disorienting if you want to go up a tunnel above you and turn around, then your ship suddenly changes position.. I can't really remember the worst game I played on the N64. I didn't have many games, 12, with 10 of them ¹st and ²nd party. Well, the worst I can remember is probably South Park (the FPS). From Acclaim, I though it would be something like Turok gameplay with Southpark humor (which I still enjoyed at that time), but the gameplay was very boring and frustrating. I gave up (--> had to return it  ) when I encountered those aliens. I still have nightmares about those turkeys (not really though :P).
  8. Allthough it does sound more fun to me, I do worry a bit. Maybe the tiring aspect will end up not being so bad after all, but it's a fact pressing a button is easier and quicker than a slashing motion. I wonder if it'll be possible to be as quick with slashes and sword swings as on the N64 or GameCube. Maybe, to make things easier, the game can ignore the direction you're slashing in, so you can just wave to make multiple slashes. That'll be quicker than keep starting a motion from one end to another.
  9. Well, because I missed the SNES era, I'd like to play all those SNES classics, especially the RPG's. Now I own a 2nd hand SNES though, I can hunt down those RPG's. But I like the game that someone else mentioned: System Shock 2. I've always wanted to play (and buy) that game, but it was before my PC gaming era.. The game sounds really cool to me, it's also supposed to be some sort of inspiration for the game Deus Ex, which is a great game. With that mentioned, there are plenty PC games that were "before my time", I'd love to play the classic point & click adventures, like The Dig, Sam & Max, and all those others.
  10. I'll buy a glass cased vertical windtunnel to have it suspended in air! I seem to be in the minority, but I'm definately going horizontal (..). I don't mind vertical setups in general, but the Wii.. Looks rediculous with that stand, in my opinion. I hate that tilted "pose", especially viewed from the side (I love rectangular shapes, with the stand, it loses that shape). Also, I think horizontal will be more practical. For memory cards, (GameCube) controllers, and inserting discs.
  11. I wouldn't call it a "perfect" transition from 2 to 3D. Good but not perfect. Most things are there, but the 3D games lack speed. Maybe the 3rd will be different, but I doubt it. What I mean with speed is just how acrobatic Samus is in the 2D games (especially near the end of a game), Samus is just very slow in 3D.. Anyway, I'm also still missing just 2 missile tanks I think. I have everything else (even the scans up 'till then I believe). Maybe people can give me some hints to where the best hidden missiles are located? I forgot which I already have, so I don't think GameFaqs will be much help (I'll have to check each location again). Oh well, I'll go hunt down those last 2 expansions some time.. I turn off the music (allthough that's obviously not the preferred way to play Metroid ).
  12. Ehm, no they don't. The person you quoted was right about "wie" = how, and they pronounce it (almost) exactly like the enlish "we" or the Dutch "wie". You're watching too much Allo Allo (or other shows with stereotypical Germans).
  13. Like I've said in that other thread (I think), I was outraged when I first heard it, even though I recognized the marketing genius behind it. But it took me only 2 weeks to get used to it (a little thing called E3 did the trick), and now I don't know better. As a Dutch person, the Wii also doesn't have the same association you people seem to have . However, I was thinking about something else recently.. What will the product number code be? The GameCube is a "DOL", maybe we will see the return of the Revolution in the form of "REV". Would be a nice touch.
  14. I never saw the point in that thing.. Why would you want to play GBA games on a TV screen (all blown up)? They're not meant for a TV screen. Surely it's more practical to play on a GBA itself? And the controls are so much better (I hate the Cube controller). For the money you need for a GBA player, I'm sure you can find a 2nd hand SNES with Super Mario World. Surely that would be much better?
  15. Oh well, too bad (could've seen this coming I guess ). They could still bring out the games that are unaffected though. And who knows, maybe a 3D VR headset is indeed the big hardware surprise we've all been waiting for . That said, as somewhat of a collector, I'd like to own the real thing myself one day.
  16. I'm definately getting both, but I'm still hoping they do the sensible thing and put both versions in one release. I'm getting the GameCube version, pretty much out of principle. It's been on my wishlist as (one of the) last titles I'll buy for this system. I'll get it and will play it. That said, I'm very looking forward to the Wii version, and controls, what I'll end up doing I reckon, is play like the Cube version first, untill defeating the first dungeon or so, then switch to the Wii version. Then I'll finish the Cube version out of principle again.
  17. What about VirtualBoy games games? I've seen people talking about Satellaview & 64DD games, but no mention of VirtualBoy games yet. This would be a perfect opportunity to introduce people to these ehm "classics". As they go for the hits at first, I don't expect to see them anytime soon, but I hope to see them later, if the VC is a succes, and Nintendo is willing to experiment with other titles. "What about the 3D aspect?" you ask? Obviously, this can't be emulated, but with my limited VB experience, I assume the lack of 3D effect won't have any gameplay issues. The 2 games I played (a tennis game and a shooter), could be done perfectly on a GameBoy or SNES in my opinion, without the 3D effects obviously. The 3D effect was, dare I say, "gimmicky", and had no real use in these 2 games. I don't know how it technically works, but I'm guessing VB games use the normal display modes the other Nintendo consoles use, with added effects, like a blur effect (which can be emulated I think). And, the advantage of lacking the headset and included 3D effect, is of course, no headaches people have been complaining about .
  18. I think the slo-mo mentioned is because of the PAL / NTSC framerate issue. We're running 25 frames a second, NTSC countries 30. I assume they didn't compensate for this fact (do they now?), and then games will be slightly slower, just like movies are. Most people don't really notice though, since it's all they know, untill someone mentiones this.
  19. I think there will be the different versions of a game (US EU & JAP), and I hope you will be able to choose which version you want. If that's the case, just go for the original. I don't think they'll be optimized though, personally I hope they leave the current versions exactly the way they are (well, except for Wii specific optimizations).
  20. In one word: atmosphere. The 3D Metroids may not play exactly like the 2D Metroids, but they definately have the appropiate atmosphere, which makes them just as fantastic (or at least very close to it). I've already posted this in the Metroid Prime 2 topic, but it fits here as well: I especially love the atmosphere involving the anticpation of bossfights (not the atmosphere of the bossfights themselves!). - Metroid: Fusion - walking past the Serris skeleton, and seeing Nightmare flying in the background. - Metroid: Zero Mission - knowing you're trapped and the only way out on the map seems to be a suspiciously large room.. The one with Kraid. - Metroid 2 - Walking past 2 recently hatched and very large Metroid eggs, then realizing you have to get back in that room.. - Metroid Prime - Walking past those Elite Pirate stasis tanks.. - Metroid Prime 2 - Fighting that Alpha Splinter, then seeing those Ing dripping towards it, and seeing the remains of that giant robot boss in the light world.
  21. Is this the original artwork, done by the original artist (who appears to be the guy on that forum from that link, but you can't find the completed work there). Or is that Wii logo slapped op by a fanboy? I'd like to have it without, if this isn't the original. Anyway it's awesome. You can look at it for hours in a "where is Waldo" kind of way. Does anyone know who the cat is, the one between de mario squid, the tanooki pacman, the piramid and the pokey? It seems familiar. Somebody asked about the letter that Arthur is holding.. It's obviously not from Animal Crossing, it's from Super Mario Bros 3 (exactly), the letter from the princess after clearing a world where you get an item. The starman in the sky is also from Super Mario Bros 3 specifically, after clearing a level and getting your 3rd star card (starman fireworks).
  22. Hmm. When I saw the newsitems of those collectibles on this site, I thought the designs looked terrible for the Zelda series. I have mixed feelings now I see actual pictures. I took a look on their site (first4figures) and their other work doesn't look spectacular as well, at least in my opinion. The Metroid figures look good, but I think their design lend themselves more for good looking figures. I think the Feirce Deity Link looks awful, but to my surprise, I thought Sheik was pretty decent. I'm still curious what they they all look like, when they're finished though. They should've gone to some Japanese companies for their figures though, they're good at that stuff (check out your favorite animes on http://www.hlj.com for example), or if they want an American company, McFarlane. Their stuff looks excellent. Still, I hope these things sell well, hopefully we even see more merchandise in the future. I was looking for Metroid merchandise some time ago, and the only thing I could find was a horrible Samus action figure. There don't seem to be many collectible figures of Nintendo characters.
  23. Hmm, I might still check this title out some day.. It was on my wishlist from the very beginning, I had my eye on the game (Shooting stuff with a sexy lady doesn't sound wrong, especially done by Capcom), then I read the IGN review, and read about the poor controls? I don't know, I usually decide for myself, and I guess it's still on that wishlist, but it has a lower priority.. PN03 is a game you can still find easily is stores, unlike some other titles on my wishlist.. For example, I intend to do my first Amazon marketplace purchase, to buy Ikaruga (als Golden Sun by the way, which I also can't find anymore). What is the music like buy the way? I'd imagine some techno influences.. Allthough, "game techno" isn't exactly (allways) "real techno".
  24. Maybe Wind Waker is a bit short on the main quest, but it's tedious with some of the sidequests.. I haven't really touched the game anymore since the final boss. I think I have 3 figurines, and the thought of collecting others makes me cringe.. Decorating the island is another thing. I love the water temple in OoT however.. And even though the water temple in MM is my least favorite one from the 4 main ones, I still think it's generally good. In fact, I think they should make a ultimate water temple rmx for TP, with elements from all previous water temples, and 4 times as hard, just to piss off some of the people here :P.
  25. I.. Can't remember. It might have been Zelda Game & Watch. I also think I had the 2nd hand VecTrex before I got my (new) NES, so my first games would be Bedlam, Soccer, and a few others. With the NES came Super Mario Bros. 2, and I played Super Mario Bros. 1 & 3 in the store before that. The first thing I bought myself (from my own money) is the N64 I think, with Super Mario 64. Damn, that's a magical memory. I remember I played for a few seconds (not too long, I wanted to fully enjoy it at home ) in the store, and my Mario kept running in circles as I tried to get used to the analog stick .
