  1. Can't believe i paid £300 for a PS2. Good times, but it seems like a lot.
  2. It currently has nothing on either iChat or Adium. The features are welcome but the primary design of this fucking huge send button. Who is it for? Blind Dogs? Nobody uses the mouse to send messages.. it's inefficient. Adium rules, it's a great platform before AIM signs some kind of deal with Yahoo! and MSN to bring true cross platform bliss. My only concern is.. the current inter-operability between MSN and Yahoo! will not be as streamlined as Jabber with video and voice over ip intergration. Ideally Mac users could use Adium with Jabber or iChat with Jabber.. Then use the video and voice software seemlessly. Guess we have 3-5 years to go. hacks- tokyo train station, ibubble, gems and some other crap. I used aMSN but the webcam support was very iffy, no doubt improved in the past 2 years but I'm an adium guy until something as good with voice/video comes along.
  3. Google, search for ass soup.
  4. I would like to think that the ports are solely for transferring saves onto the Wii's 512mb storage. But my suspicion is you will need a GameCube memory card because this would require reverse engineering from Nintendo.. and for every game that would be difficuilt (like the 360 backwards compatibility) The Cube software by default will search for the Cube slots.. I don't think you will be able to look for other memory.. but perhaps they've engineered it so you can assign the on board 512mb of memory to a particular slot which would bypass the need to use a card. I see them in the bargain bucket in Gamestation for 50p-£1. Just buy one just in case.. the market will be swamped if it's the case that you do need one.
  5. Big Tac, Gyshaal Kid should fit in nicely.
  6. We're going the way the Japanese are.. house prices so expensive that everyone rents. Thus a generation of youths with lots of money and little to no financial investment for later in life. It'll be fun until we need a pension and haven't been able to save. To those who question the NHS can suck the balls of the people who 3 generations ago made it. You have no idea what it means to offend the sense of social justice until you are upon the recieving end. You were born in a NHS hospital, you are healthy, again I will emphasis the shut up noob factor.
  7. Xbox games were rarely £40, maybe I was not paying much attention but I've never seen an Xbox game on a store shelf above £35 (that was Halo 2 collector's tin) and only I suppose they'd be less new. 15-20% price increase I'd say.
  8. How post modern. How about we all just get it over with an kill ourselves on webcam? Then try to get to number 1 in the Google charts before having the video taken down. Then people can engage in a discussion as to why the video was taken down. Followed by them killing themselves. Or whatever. I'm going to get drunk.
  9. He's a paedophile. [locked] and/or banned. Not funny. Hah.
  10. Having ten pieces of equipment is not cool, it is space taking, plug taking energy taking remote taking. All in one toys (PS3/360) aren't cheap.. It would have just been nice to have had a HDD freeview box, a Wii and a TV. 1 remote for the TV and freeview, one remote for the Wii. I have a laptop which can play DVDs.. I can't justify buying a DVD player which is why the Wii was a good compromise. CBA with reading that other BS, you are being dick 'eads
  11. Honestly if they fuck this up it's no big deal. MSN Messenger- create new folder, put all you Nintendo Wii friends in there. When you want to play Wii just let other people know what you're playing and when. I see Connect24 as a more social gaming system than a play random people system.. obviously there will be challenge hungry people who want to own everyone and train against something better than AI. Personally I see it as Nintendo does.. a social gaming network more than a competition network.
  12. Matt C said the cable is based on the same technology, but is slightly different so it won't fit. Could be bodged I suppose.. I'm no expert.
  13. Like a Mac.. who cares about the colour, you can put stickers on it or spray it. Battery packs are silly (see other thread) there's plenty of good reasons to use AA. Most houses have a DVD player now, either in a computer or in the house.. they can be picked up for £25 (a standard quality one). I admit it would have been nice but it's not a huge deal. Would've been handy for University really. The controllers are expensive because they do a lot of shit, there is a whole bunch of tech in there that works really accurately (from reports) and if your friends/family use the system enough they shoudl chip in. Pro-logic II is shit, I whole heartedy agree and I expect digital out but never mind.. it's still a phat console at a reasonable price.. prices always drop in price wars.. but Nintendo Europe can't canibalise their DS market by offering Wii games at £29.99 too. Give it time and we'll have indie games and cult classics and you'll think it's worth it. Remember the saying you can't have your cake and eat it.. well with Wii you can have the cake and throw it around the room.
  14. Wii wiimoveyou.co.uk white background, wii signature font all round in pale grey. double page spread.. not hard to imagine honestly. ZeldaFreak, point taken but last 10's of thousands of computer graduates couldn't get jobs in their fields because the industry is flooded with these graduates. It is a serious problem.. the UK games industry is hardly huge. I'm not saying they're bad value for money (look at arcaeology) but it's hardly the best. Which is why I think anyone who enjoys games should think long and hard about whether they'd enjoy the some what slow and repetitive task of making them.
  15. Yeah I must admit, despite being sponsored by EA.. there is some great advice. It details every UK and some international degrees.. has some profiles on types of jobs so you know what to specialise in. But at £3000 a year and the industry paying low level team members little to nothing it's hard to see them as value for money unless you consider yourself either the next Will Wright or you love games hard enough that money isn't an issue. I'm certainly going to give it a serious look, I'm kinda into art design physics and computers, ticks some of the boxes I suppose.
  16. can we not turn this into a game of my cock is much bigger than yours? everyone can have an opinion.. and who has multiple accounts? that's really gay.. my argument isn't an entirely original one: Joystiq made most of the points I'm talking about- with a button centric controller this isn't much of a problem but with the free hand controller being tied to a plug will be a serious flaw. I just adapted their argument to the Wii. http://xbox360.joystiq.com/2005/12/05/xbox-360-wireless-controllers-arent-xbox-360-annoyance-002/ I just hope there is a sufficient warning on the Wii remote so that we know when to change batteries when playing online (in between games/lobbby) i personally have the £20 from Argos, which I seem to remember paying £17 for (shop around), works fine for my stuff around the house.
  17. We're gonna have to agree to disagree then. Most consumers will appreciate the safety, convenience and cost that they are saving (initially) by not having plug and charge kits.. If they are wise consumers they will use the AA's ethically and not spend more in the long run. I think you exagerate the costs.. if you can afford 4 controllers (and nunchucks?) then you can afford the £16 for some batteries.. in fact it's a freakin insignificance. Most houses these days have rechargeable batteries anyway. Kids + Power sources + cables + playing = disaster. Kids can operate batteries safely, change them in a few seconds without disturbing play.. and it's still wireless as intended. Easier to pass health and safety regulations (which believe it or not are quite strict in the US and EU) cheaper and quicker to produce. If the battery supplier can't meet demand, like with certain iPods.. then production stops.. AA batteries for the win. What if you take your Wii controller round a friends? you don't want to take a charger too.. because if your friend is using it then he wont have a spare. AA batteries can be found in TV remotes for emergencies.
  18. Zelda really shines there, the art direction for the whole project has been superb.. not uber realistic.. kind of a stylised reality. Matt C has already threatened to slate Downhill Jam for being shit graphics, they're not lazy.. but certainly greedy.
  19. Site is now up --- Skip to ** if you're not interested in a rundown/advert of this month's Edge. Just opened up this month's Edge (now priced at the ridiculous £4.50) Nothing fantastic for Nintendorks. I recommend subscribing.. £9.99 for 3 issues and a free shirt. Motorstorm got the cover, there's a feature on that. Also a feature on console launches dispelling myths, the new John Woo game, Brothers in Arms and a retro feature on ToeJam and Earl. Reviews on the DS games: Deep Labyrinth and Scurge Hive. Plus a preview of the poor looking Tingle RPG which will no doubt work in some way with the Wii version of Twilight Princess. Not much Nintendo coverage this month but Next month is a Wii special. Also there's a videogame job supplement. (Sponsored by EA) ** Onto the point of this thread.. Nintendo took out a double page spread with the word Wii. http://wiimoveyou.co.uk/ isn't currently up.. should be tonight or at least by tomorrow when Edge goes on sale. Should clear up the UK launch details and stuff once and for all.. or failing that just regurgitate everything we already know. Either way that appears to be the official Wii hub site. Wasn't the 10 million actually Euros? that's a school boy error.. and I thought it was 11 million too.
  20. Bit premature tbh, we don't even know if the Connect24 service will be running on launch. But whatever.
  21. LOLOL The Sony PS3 can't handle the awesome graphics in Downhill Jam. Sony were like "we'd love to let you make it for the PS3 but I think the console would just asplode" http://www.gamesarefun.com/games/wii/tonyhawkdownhilljam/3.jpg Check out that backdrop, it's not even rendered.. I've not seen a game do this since Cool Boarders on the PSone. Which looks better IMHO, hahaha
  22. Yes because loads of people have WiFi internet access but don't have a computer with a keyboard, mouse and browser as standard. The Wii online features are nice but I think we're all bullshitting when we say we'll actually use them frequently.
  23. Launch Window = Bullshit term coined by marketing jerks to get around the idea of a delay. I don't care if it's delayed.. I'd rather they be more upfront and honest and say.. well we're 4 weeks behind schedule so expect it by New Year or something.
  24. ROFL, my typing has gone way downhill over Summer.
  25. Tony Hawks probably does, the DS one did. They probably worked so hard on it that they forgot to make the game good. I've seen the PS3 boxes and they are appauling.. PS3 >>> Wii > Xbox 360 (for boxes) I rate the 360 boxes slightly higher because they are so well laid out on the back with system requirements making it very simple.. and the quality is always top notch from my experiences.
