There is one date on it, from a few weeks ago.. which was filed. But all the documents I read have dreamcasts in it: http://img469.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot399nj.jpg I'm still staying quite critical of it, I see no Revolution link at all as of yet.. I've mouthed of at the people at RevolutionFanboy.. but I think my comments might have been wrong. After all why would they file a patent in 2006 for Dreamcast/Arcade machines?
-
I'm not sure how legit it is really.. I got the article from RevolutionFanboy (part of the joystiq empire) And looking through the 59 page patent.. it seems this controller is aimed at the Dreamcast and arcade machines. I'm not sure whether this is a generalised patent, and the ideas can still be used in the Revolution? But the patent details how you can place the little dreamcast dongle thing in the top of it. I'm starting to think this is another bum article published by Revolution Fanboy. After all the patent is dated: 2000-05-24

I'm currently reading through the patent to understand how the Revolution controller, the article doesn't mention the words Nintendo or Revolution for obvious reasons but they just filed a patent on this baby: click image to digg me up. As I say, I'm concerned Sega will own the exclusive rights to use the light gun shell in all Nintendo Revolution games.. which would be a great shame and could put prices up to consumers if a third party developper intends on using it. I hope it's an open accessory. http://digg.com/gaming/Sega_files_patent_for_Revolution_gun_controller Minus the boring crap: " [0040] In the game device, the game machine successively forms three-dimensional explosion images of the course of the cannonball impacting, exploding, and disappearing in accordance with the lapse of time, and may comprise an image processing means for applying, to the three-dimensional explosion images showing the course of disappearance, two-dimensional explosion images similarly showing the course of disappearance as a semi-transparent texture. Just because it says Nintendo official magazine doesn't mean anyone from Nintendo works at future. In fact they probably have 1 legal person who came over when the office got set up to explain what and what not they can say in the magazine.. though this communication could have been done by formal letter. You forgot that magazine reporters are arrogant twats just out of university and think they know everything. Many of the staff probably don't even like Nintendo.. it's just their job remember. They're probably waiting until they can get a job at a national newspaper.

Doesn't tech specs mean some numbers, this is just an arrow pointing in a direction. Interesting commentary though slightly misleading title. I'm still basing peformance on system cost personally.. i'm old fashioned. PS3 >> 360 > revolution.

Anyone know anything about bandwidth? I'm betting the Revolution will use 802.11b? There is no-way Nintendo will be using wireless image transfer at a suitable playable rate. The idea that the console will sit on your coffee table is preposterous. The idea of a battery is lame, confusing and complicated. It will be plugged into a SD television, or computer model horizontally or vertically, the stand is merely decorative to ensure the system is stable and not scratched or at risk of any spillages. The internet and controller will be wireless, nothing else.. there is no future expansion of wireless video streaming. Oh sorry, what am I saying? The magazine says so... it must be true

Consolewars reveals new Revolution information
Nintendork replied to system_error's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I like how my whole freaking post got plagiarised here: http://www.revolutionfanboy.com/2006/02/17/more-unsubstantiated-revolution-info-emerges/ Without me getting any credit.. one person read it and it went around a few blogs.. then ended up on a news site. I think so at least. Could just be a really unlikely coincidence. So far I've been really unimpressed with how revolutionfanboy have dealt with little bits of news. I'm not reading it anymore. -
Wonder how it performs on a HD television.. if it enhances it at all. Not that I will ever buy one.. but just to know. I figure it would appear fuzzy like I was hearing about these new super resolution TVs that the DVDs can't even support.

Scaling down could mean textures too if the Revolution's ram is low. Resolution is indefinite. -
Would be good for playing a Matrix game on the Revolution though.. Part of the problem of surround sound kits is everyone has different acoustics. Wall projection would marginalise the market..if your walls aren't right.. you can't use that feature. What amazes me is how carried away people got over Nintendo Floor Vision.. when it was just a bit of a laugh for a demo kiosk at some event.. Nintendo patented it because other companies will use the tech in the future and pay Nintendo royalty for their ideas. Simple by product of innovation. Everyone remember the promo video with all the people playing? Remember how EVERY SINGLE ONE of them was playing in a lounge, on a sofa or on the floor. All looking at one object, I highly recommend you all re-watch the video: http://ms.nintendo-europe.com/black/enGB/?feature=3DnWfkg29cXpr8sX4WhhNcVDvok8-n0R# And rethink these crazy ideas you have in your head. You are all thinking a (nintendo) generation ahead.. It's Nintendo, not Bigspendo.

The ban is great. Though I still have reservations over whether passive smoking can truely cause cancer. I've not seen quoted evidence used in any government documents.. it's just taken for granted if it goes in and it causes canceer it comes out and must cause cancer again. It is very difficuilt science when you are dealing with passive smoke.. because ultimately to test it you have to monitor people who absorb passive smoke and people who don't remember that you can develop cancer without smoking or drinking. It is very risky research and personally as a scientist I would not lend my name and reputation in the scientific community to something that could theoretically be so.. unsound. I saw on Question Time last night the debate over private clubs.. I think it's great that they're banned too.. and I agree that prisons should be allowed to smoke still. The idea was to have a vote in private clubs and bars that staff were allowed to vote in too, to make it 'fair' but everyone knows.. in any private club or bar there will be more members who smoke than staff who oppose it. Thus the total ban is great, it improves quality of working environment for a large amount of people. and it is a valid point that the ban will hopefully allow many people to quit and not feel pressured into starting in the first place on a 'social' basis. I can't see any flaws in it at all.. I only hope that more money goes into helping people quit and more taxes on them in the first place. edit: to everyone playing the 'choice' card saying this is infringing upon your civil liberties it has been taken on board and the legislation will go no further. If you want to smoke outside you can do so. It wont go any further. One counter argument was that if you can't smoke at a pub that you'll go home and smoke around your kids.. this is a fucking joke and no parent should be so fucking lazy that they can't go out in the beer garden for 3 minutes. The men in Ireland do it, it was said that the beer gardens are packed since the ban was introduced. Stop being pansies. If you would like to take it further how about I take a dump on your office desk and show you a little bit about pleasant working environments.

Sony and Nintendo are going to offload a dump load of videos on the media at E3, the best gets shown. Simple as that.. the media decide. If Nintendo want a chance of getting their share of the thunder post E3 press (printed, television and radio) then they will need to save it all. They need to get the people sitting on the fence. They could release Metroid Shots now.. and Mario 128 concepts.. but come E3 while Sony is playing the cat they will have Nintendo for lunch. Internet press is totally varied, you can choose your sources.. but like we saw in the Sun a few weeks back.. printed press reaches so many more average consumers. The day after E3 the tabloids will probably have a couple of pages dedicated to the PS3 and Revolution. Nintendo needs that demographic of people. 'non gamers'

Consolewars reveals new Revolution information
Nintendork replied to system_error's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Ah yeah, I see what you mean.. sorry for the misunderstanding about the GC chipset as alpha dev. My theory is ports have been changed merely to stop importing early, and it's a fail safe technique, if one gets leaked.. chances are they wont be able to power it providing Nintendo keeps AV cables under lock and key until release. I wasn't being serious about BigTac writing it.. it's just his style of writing. -
Half way through it and had to pause to say: This stand battery thing is bullshit. Think of health and safety.. it would need to be securely fixed to the console. On top of that as I've said before batteries are not playdough, you cannot mould it into a plastic stand however you like. the connector on the Revolution is AC, but batteries are DC.
-
Why I said download
-
I'm amazed how many people believe it, if you look at the console with and without the stand you'll see that in places it is wafer thin sheets of plastic to make it cheaper (less plastic less cost) if it were some sort of brick it would probably not be such an obstructive shape. Battery packs and DC/AC converters are not made out of putty.. You can't just mould it into any shape you want. LOOK. The back of the stand is virtually wafer thin. There is no connection, there is no way for energy to flow under here safely. It would never pass health and safety regulations, it would be completely innefficient use of space. The console is small enough as it is, if they wanted a freaking battery they could put 10 in it. It would still be half the size of the xbox 360 and PS3. THE ARGUMENT HAS NO LOGIC TO IT. I am completely 100% going to stand by my word that this stand is made of a plastic polymer, and nothing else (except perhaps some rubber grip feet and a sticker on the bottom) THINK about it, on a wider scale.. Think how a battery is DC but the console patent clearly details an AC connection, Think Nintendo wants it to be cheap, Think Nintendo wants it to be small, Think that for convenient gameplay it would sit by a television.. Think it needs to be simple for your average consumer to set up (this is starting to sound more complicated than installing linux). For God's sake think. Yes Nintendo have something up their sleeve but this is just ludicrous. The project 3D idea.. i'm still staying quiet about that. it could have a home on the revolution..

Consolewars reveals new Revolution information
Nintendork replied to system_error's topic in Nintendo Gaming
1. Unlikely, this would lead to the idea in many consumer's minds that they can get hold of a controller and get a Revolution experience for half the cost.. face it the controller is the selling point. I don't think so.. 2. Average consumers don't care too much about ports but as we saw on the patent images the other day they are indeed similar. no HD does mean graphically it is not going to have the potential.. we're already aware of this 3. Unreal confirmed this effectively when they hired out people a few weeks back to work on all 4 platforms (plus mac) 4. Nintendo said this the other day, it's not that big of a deal.. as bookerman pointed out this would only really benefit people with internet and wireless internet access but don't have a computer (go figure) 5. It's a fair assumption that it's working considering many good deep titles take over a year to fully develop.. a serial port? could have just been thrown in for shits and giggles to give the report some flavour of something we didn't know already. after all once it comes to E3 we wont be talking about development phases and dev kits it will be finished products. I could say Nintendo Revolution controllers are currently hooked up to a blender for making smoothies.. does it matter? no because none of us will ever see or touch it, so effectively this means nothing. 6. Yeah.. I didn't know that. 7. Gs are widely considered best bang for your buck, why mac laptops like the iBook start at 6 hours average use, while a windows counterpart struggles to manage 2. 8. Yeah that doesn't mean much.. PowerBooks are ridiculously thin, we were told the prototype is near to exact 3 DVD cases, and the final thing would be thinner than that. Making it thinner than a powerbook would not be possible with Nintendo's aims. 9/10. Yeah knew this already too.. Don't suppose BigTac wrote this did he? It's very pretty at first site.. but it's just reworded old news. -
spence.offal.co.uk, my site hasn't got any proper photos on it though.. just some lame flickr stream. i don't have the web expertise to implement a proper photo gallery. i like the site though, put quite a lot of effort into it. clean lines, nice and simple. yours needs the fonts tidying up, presentation is the first 49%.. you want it to be easy to read flowing and ultimately professional. keep the stylish fonts and work on the right and keep it uber modern on the right. nice contrast will really bring out your work I think.

That is ridiculous. it would canibalise the DS and Nintendo would have a watered down saturated market and it would definitely be the end of them.
-
Yeah I think the rest is all junk though, this 9 page feature is the complete meat.

If you fancy a read download these from Nintendo UK magazine. The one with all the hype but none of the news. http://gonintendo.com/?p=877 Dunno if it's legal but what's new? via digg.com/gaming

I'd like to see more of this 'if consumers hassle us enough to do it' as if they don't have the resources to be doing what they should be in the first place. Market research jeez.
