Refresh rate is not progressive scan. PS is drawing all lines on the screen in one pass while refresh rate determines the amount of passes. 640x480 is the standard for most TVs and the average tv is limited to 480i (interlaced). The wii will have 480p standard in all games (it is unclear if that means the widescreen 480p or just the standard screen 480p). Yes, widescreen can and will be output (zelda TP is widescreen on the wii). Well component is the world standard for high quality analog video signals while scart is a french standard (from my understanding). I would recommend component cables since I recall somthing about scart using high voltages that could damage equipment if pulled out durring operation. Anyway the same signal is passed over the wires so whatever you think looks better/perfer using will work fine A texture is a 2D image (like any jpeg file) that is layed over polygons that make up 3D models and make them look like they have skin, fur etc... (check out the polygon people from super smash bros on the 64 to see some un textured models). These textures take up space on the disk used to store the game and in the ram when the game is running so compression is used to save on space. Compression is basically a mathmatical way of taking somthing and shrinking it, however, when uncompressed it can cause artifacts (little things that just look wrong like wrong shades on pixels and such). Not really sure why that is but my guess is that either somthing is lost durring the compression or when it is uncompressed. The wii will have larger disks and more ram than the cube so textures will naturally be able to look better. No problem

If a company does nothing but make video games and is turning a profit I dare say it need not leave it's business.

Biggest problem I had with snap was the inability to walk around. Being stuck on a rail really sucked

Newer monitors (LCDs) along with HD TVs have the ports on them. I assume your using an older CRT (like me ) I'm sure there will be a gender changer available for us.

Hmmm. Guess I need to read up more on 1t sram. Until then I still disagree :p Still think these specs are crap for the reasons stated earlier in this thread. Edit: Ars takes a crack at it http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060802-7407.html
-
As I understand it the 1T sram is a manufacturing proccess as well as a specific timing. GDDR3 is basically DDR2 while 1t sram is a small lower power high speed embedded ram solution. I fail to see how they could be the same. That said I can see how GDDR could be made to have similar timings as 1t sram however it would not be 1t sram but rather some kinda freaky fast access GDDR.

Small thing to note but HD alone does not make dev costs go up. The ps3 and 360 are more complex to develope for due to the hardware that pushes the HD content. It would be no different if they were limited to 480p.
-
er.... umm.... how? That's like an apple being an orange. GDDR3 has a spec that it is made for as does 1t sram. The specs are not the same and thus the product is not the same.

good call goku, I forgot about that. Nintendo already inked a deal with mosys for the 1t sram >_>

Dear god... I just spent time reading the smash bros forum (english)... those kids are just plain stupid. *run off to cry*

I doubt we will see GDDR3 as the systems main memory. Also those bandwidth numbers seem VERY low. Overall I think it was just made up. Edit: On a side note the video out on the wii is digital not analogue.

Well I recall VGA out being confirmed some years ago but plans may have changed since then. Not sure.

I love that last line. The wii is indeed a box with a controller much like the 360 and the ps3. It should also be noted that the gameboy has had some of the best games on ANY platform.

To point #1, yes there will be more movement involved however it will be comperable to a gamepad/mouse and keyboard. Point #2 about the big screen TV is moot, it's the same as saying an xbox or gamecube won't work on a small TV. The control interface works independent of the TV. Point #3 is invailidated by the fact that you won't need to more very much (see my counter to point #1). As is hearing one argument and taking it as fact. This board has some of the least bias discussion (in a nintendo centered board) that I have ever seen as well as some of the most interesting.

It's KILLER 72!

Calm down there buddy :p It's just a sony fanboy

Forgive me but curiosity is in my blood and since I'm on the other side of the world most people out here probably don't know.

er..... well.... germany is a name and well names generally cross language barriers. So I kinda thought there might be a reason we call it germany. @ cube lol :p
-
Hmmm I didn't know that. Well then... why do we who speak english (at least american english) call it germany?
-
Ok well I live on the other side of the planet from you (literally) and I got into a discussion with my dad. Why is germany called germany when the germans call it Deutschland? It just seems odd to me since every other country on the globe (that I know of) calls their own country the same thing as everyone else. Or is this the same kind of thing as americans calling their counrty america and usa?

Hmmmm me thinks the wii controller memory will be used to remember controller order (1st, 2nd, etc...) along with what console it is tied too.
-
WOOT!!!! EARTHBOUND!!!! *crys in happyness*
-
Actually hardware can be buggy (has intermitant problems as opposed to not working). Still I agree that nintendo would not let a buggy console out the door.

The grammar and spelling make me cry
