  1. As a temporal fix, upping it to 18 might work, but I think they're missing the point. Cars used wrongly are weapons of mass destruction. Drilling that idea into people as a part of education should result in a much more self-regulated safe driving. Overall in the UK we're so good at making rules to try force people to do things (which often fails). I think the proper approach is to educate for greater self awareness and discipline.
  2. This month's ONM arrived 2 days ago and has a big review. Now I'm looking forward to getting this. I like the sound of it.
  3. If I had to choose 2 at teh beginnig I would chooes Zelda and Exicte Truck as they contrast each othre to keap you goign till you get anotehr game (hopefuly).
  4. One thing I don't like is how some gays try to seek scientific reasons to explain why homosexuality is natural, as if such proof was necessary. Missing the point really, or rather, it just says more about the complex the person has about being gay. Not saying all are, but I've heard enough of them in the media who persue that path. Personally, I think one shouldn't feel the need to find such scientific reasons.
  5. PC gamers would argue that such freedom is what makes a true RPG. It all comes from the pen & paper RPG (like dungeon and dragons) which is run by a dungeon master to players liking. Japan pioneered it into a form of "adventure" RPG, to tell a story to a player. That's what we see today on consoles (except 360 which inherits PC culture) and handhelds. I play both PC and console (japanese) RPG. I like them both. If I had to choose, I would go for console ones. I prefer story driven ones like you lot. If you want a taste of free form PC RPG, you should try Morrowind (original is bugy as hell on xbox) or Oblivion (360). I think you won't like it, darksnowman.
  6. Not of my own, but a story that happened to a friend of mine who's a lesbian. She made a new male friend at work and went out (making clear that it's as friends) to have lunch together. When one trivial conversation ended, she started another by saying: "By the way, I'm a lesbian". The bloke replied "Oh, No Problem. No Problem." She wasn't offended or anything, but we found the bloke's reaction hilarious.
  7. Funny you say that mate because it's so true. Thinking about it, pen&paper (with dungeon master) RPG became Ultima (made by Lord British), which inspired Dragon Quest (by Horii), which inspired Final Fantasy (by Sakaguchi). Then the PC side and console side split. Western side (PC) RPG continued the free-form approach, while Japanese counterpart put emphasis on story to put across a message to a player. This split is still seen today. RPGs on PC are much more free-form with relatively undramatic story, while console RPGs are very story driven and dramatic. It's often the case that gamers who are used to one side can't play the other comfortably. Console gamers complain that PC RPG story isn't theatric enough while PC gamers complain console RPGs are too linear with too much focus on story and lacking freedom. Personally, I was impressed with FF XI. It's a nice middle way product - on one hand there is the complete freedom, yet the story was very theatrical and involving. Might that be the future of single player too?
  8. You mean like, the "addon" will be more established among Wii users that way? Then yes, that seems logical. It is true that generally it's harder to sell addons later than bundled at the start. In a way though, couldn't that also apply to the mic too? Especially if it is cheap. Then again I guess they would want to include the more pricey component first and leave the cheaper one out. Oh well I don't know really. It seems any explanation seems possible lol
  9. They sure did make Onion Knights awkward in stats, he isn't quite a front or rear row combatant. I guess they didn't want to overdo it till late 90s, which makes sense really. My conclusion is that if you are new or don't want to suffer, avoid Onion Knight till later on. Otherwise exp grinding gets rather silly. I do like the fact that I'm having to think hard on how to make the best of him though in each section, but early on he is too much of a jack of all trade & master of none.
  10. Shy Guy. Yes that's the one. Actually I don't "hate" him as such, as I said I don't really dislike any of them, but something about it creeped me out long ago. Jason "Friday 13th" impression may be it.. lol
  11. Wii remote itself having some sort of voice input support may just be a way to standardize the feature in the future. After seeing the likes of Odama on NGC I can believe it. On the other hand I would agree that if hardware addon would be necessary anyway for adding a proper mic, it begs the question why such support can't be added within the addon... Ok I'll shut up now. I'm confused
  12. Hard question... I don't love all of them, but I don't dislike them either... I guess the only one I can think of is Mario Brothers 2 USA version's little masked mob, the little thing on the very right hand side: It wasn't actually a mario game in Japan so I don't know if it qualifies in this thread, but everytime I see that masked thing I cringe.
  13. Your right HoT about onion equipment. They are rare, I remember them from the original ff3. They dropped off various coloured dragons in the final tower. and I actually managed to get 4 sets. Not sure if I can stomach the whole experience all over again on DS though. Unless they are less rare on DS.
  14. Rayman wore off on me few months ago, but the other day I played it again and it was a good laugh again. And (talking of big money spinning publishers) whatever's become of EA's British Columbia department? I thought they assigned them entirely for researching Wii conversions and innovations which work exclusively for it.
  15. God. I don't have the nerves to do that atm. I have to say I'm liking this more than I liked FF3 on nes. I can't believe I'm saying that as I've always preferred original games to remakes. DS one feels a tad bit easier though. It FEELs like less exp grinding. And classes feel more balanced. BTW got Onion Knight last night and now have 1 member with that job. I'm tempted to have 4 of them, but I resisted the temptation so that I can enjoy other classes. I wonder how early you can get Onion Knight. If you can get it at the beginning, it superceeds Redmage right away.
  16. Greetings all. Am I right that the main problem from moderators' standpoint is that it's hard to "moderate" a thread so mixed with posts of different nature, especially given the volume of trafic? If so, I can understand. It's a practical problem. On the other hand, do any of you have a philosophical problem with it? If so, I would like to hear it as I don't see one. There is a possibility that I haven't woken up to some aspect of it. Also, I'm wondering if any of you remember my post covering motivation and reasoning behind the making of MPT. It's a long time ago now. It was when some people voiced their concerns over MPT chit-chat-behaviour "spilling over" to other threads and forums (which is a perfectly valid concern). If there were an understanding in the backdrop of the thread, some part of Shorty's summary which implicates criticism of MPT seems a little 'out of place'. I wouldn't complain though. If it makes practical side of things easier, then such changes may be necessary. I just hope it would not kill off the beauty that emerges out of flexibility. It only works in a relatively 'compact' community like this one. When it gets larger, like a city or a country, flexibility usually leads to anarchy. That's why these days our society seems overly technical to the point of machine-like-cold-heartedness. It is a smaller community's privilege that something like MPT is possible. But I digress. Without typing out the whole academic side of it all, I would say that the term "meaningless" is more about being "I don't know if you care, but..." rather than a post actually being pointless. A brief conversation out of meaningless bubble thoughts has one of the greatest potency in human interaction, imo. That's why as a person people tend to learn more about one another when out and about shopping aimlessly than, say, in a academic classroom focussing on one specific subject. I can assure you most of bubble thoughts we throw at one another in daily life is often meaningless, but not pointless when it comes to the beauty of interaction. Most people "feel" this by the sense of enjoyment, even if they couldn't put a finger on why. Something of a lost art? Perhaps. One note I would have on IRC is that, while it tends to be more appropriate for a chat, it is an entirely different medium and the nature of interaction is different. I'm not against it, but it is different in accessibility when you are not used to using real-time chat. The life span of an exchange in IRC is much shorter as well (in general), whereas forum provides a much better format for everybody regardless of lifestyle. A forum is, in short, one of the least discriminating format. I thought the existance of "General Chit Chat Forum" here meant that there was an acknowledgement of this point. Overall, I'm not too bothered about how it is managed, but the above are my thoughts. Finally, and most importantly, big thanks to all of you who spend your precious time running this site! In all fairness to mods, I think appreciation is too rarely said explicitly.
  17. I have a love & hate relationship with Risk and Monopoly. I don't know why, but I love them so much and get an irrisistable urge to play them. but as soon as I start playing I'm immediately overwhelmed by the sense of repetitiveness and start to think "what's the point" and I put down the pieces.
  18. mariosmentor, just entered your # into mine. Feel free to spam me. I'm just a bit annoyed about the fact that it's so hard to type messages in it. The space is under 'Symbols' section. How silly is that eh Just a simple mailing system to others over wifi, or to NPCs in the game. You do get unlockables using it. Read over this page and you'll see 1.
  19. lol cheeky bugger. didn't think of that one
  20. 1 sent. But doh!! didn't know there was 1 mail per hour limit
  21. I have US one too...! How convenient as I was wondering how I was going to do it as well. FC is 1718 9960 5748. So just need to send 7 mails to each other right?
  22. Lol you're nuts but I do admire & respect your dedication. I never bothered that much tbh, other than just having 1 knight all the way in the original ff3j. I think he had enough vitality to get max hp, but I can't remember exactly. Monk could probably do that too. I think you are right about blackbelt though as it comes so late in the game. Good luck mate Another thing with the old ff3 was that the best was Level 99 Freelancer with freelancer-only equipment that drops off dragons in the last area. I remember they were an insanely rare drop and it was one of those extra game features for hardcore (and insane) gamers. I haven't got that far yet to see it in DS version (been very busy ) but you'd think something cool like that would have stayed in the game. EDIT: a quick web searching revealed that it's now an unlockable in DS version.
  23. What about Liverpool though? And perhaps all clubs for that matter. This is a difficult question because clubs don't really have much control over their own fans. There is an irony in all this, in that some fans were walking in at the expense of other fans. It's basically an in-fighting within Liverpool fanbase, and whatever we may think of UEFA, there is a moral issue when it comes to sacrificing fellow fans for your own good. It would be bizarre to criticize UEFA for that when it's the club's own fans which are effectively generating the problem and facing the consequence of its own doing. Obviously as far as UEFA is concerned it's no good pointing that out to shield themselves as they were badly organized, but there is a problem Liverpool has to look at. The question is, how?
  24. Yeah, I agree with that. What I was saying earlier is that I think Liverpool is doing itself MORE harm because of those individuals who speak in the media putting up a defence based on UEFA's failings. It's not going down well at all. Others wrong doings does not justify your own wrong doing. UEFA is also doing that to Liverpool. It's a pretty nasty world we live in atm.
  25. Even if your analysis had been correct, I don't think it works like that in SquareEnix's mind. It's probably more a question of what 'feels' right, as well as being strategic with particularly 'big' installments.
