  1. Probably because it's too much work. And it'll be more of the same - something Nintendo is trying to avoid where possible. And ROFL @ recommending EA's approach, I too never thought of saying that But you are right, if we're in for doing the same, Guitar Hero has the right direction. Well, one thing for sure mate, whatever you make of it, it's a good thing that Nintendo is making games YOU don't understand why it's fun. If they only made games which you would find fun, there would've been a limit to how much Nintendo can spread Wii/DS. One person's sense of perception is never complete on its own. Heck even one big group's sense of perception isn't enough. I mean, look at the previous mainstream gaming before the arrival of Wii/DS. It was so narrowly focussed on serving only a few types of 'fun'. That 'group' (so called hardcore gamers, though I'm one myself) decided that Wii/DS will be an epic fail. The wider public decided otherwise, because wider public have people in it who have different view of 'fun'. That's why Nintendo is selling like there's no tomorrow. With WiiMusic Nintendo is just trying to tap into other forms of 'fun'. I for one can understand their thinking. I can just imagine how they came to design WiiMusic because I happen to have tasted that sense of joy playing in a real band (with keyboard) and quartet (with violin). If you fancy, I'll explain it in detail. I just don't want to make this post too long.
  2. I'm so excited about this one I think seeing plus as "patching wii remote" is a rather cynical view... Wii remote is fine as it is, but with plus its possibility is extended even further. It worked well before, now it's even more functional should devs choose to utilize it. I suspect it won't come into use (or be used in a way that wasn't possible with original wiimote) for a while anyway, other than few odd games here and there. With 1st person or melee type games, what I fancy is switching 1:1 controls to pre defined controls with a press of a button. I bet many games can be done that way so you can switch between the 2 depending on the situation. If you play with the pre defined motion then plus addon isn't necessary.
  3. Well, no big loss for me. I actually think Nintendo has great ideas with this sort of thing in their vault of ideas. It's just that they're over protective of its customer base. And they should be. Do you remember the Pictochat bollox where some American media was raving on about how some weirdo suddenly connected to a girl's DS and started chatting. Games are BAD! Nintendo BAD! and all the balls that followed. Nintendo is something of a victim of its own success with this global thing going, the larger chunk of the pie they take the higher the chance that some idiot will who try exploit the system. I tend to think you have to be demented to go knocking on somebody just because of a chatline in AC (or whatever else). But then again, there was that girl who was insulted by WiiFit calling her "fat" so much so that she appeared on the BBC with her mother. Takes all sorts I suppose.
  4. Strangely enough I never spoke in games. Ever. I guess it's a matter of habit and I just haven't gotten into the habit. I think the very 1st time I heard somebody speak in game was counterstrike and ever since then I've been used to hearing others but never bothered speaking myself. Perhaps Nintendo might get me into this actually. Or not. I don't know.
  5. Not to go off at tangent, but I had this thing floating in my mind for years, where you dig up a rock or cut branches and literally construct a building inch by inch like an exile might do on a lonely island. lol. Man that'll be so tedious. But I think I'll finish it eventually. After 2 years, maybe AC is a crazy game in concept, when you think about it, because things we've been doing is pretty close to that. How so mind numbing.
  6. No, you're right. I was thinking the same, but seeing the likes of Mario Kart and SSB I think Nintendo will see enough sense in adding different options to controls. Overall I'm looking forward to this. To an extent I too have a slight AC fatigue because of the amount of time I spent in each, but I know the fatigue will go with new additions. It was like that with DS version as well. I just hope there will be a lot (or a bit) more things to do. Not that I was dissatisfied with previous installations, but one joy of AC is doing some mind numbing things alone for no reason, the more stuff to do the merrier
  7. I'm interested in the bit "Pick up the baton" in the description. Did any of you read/hear anything about this? This E3 didn't go into it, but I reckon it's something like the one Miyamoto did 2 years ago? I fancied that bit for years If I can save a 1-4 player session then conduct it later with further articulation, they've certainly found a demography (me!) who'll be fascinated by that sort of madness.
  8. Performing together is fun. Especially when everybody contributes to generating an articulation (albeit within limited scope), which together fashion one performance. The chap who's been playing the guitar for us is pretty bad. He hits the wrong notes all the time (so do I), but that doesn't reduce the overwhelming joy that comes out of the experience. Obviously the control over an instrument is clearly limited in Wii Music, much like the karts in Mario Kart are limited compared to real vehicles. It seems like you just decide the timing and volume of the notes. Playing real instruments (or something you have a lot of control over) isn't easy for everybody. I picked up the Violin at the age of 3 and took 10 years to get to a reasonable standard where I could forget that I was holding the instrument (so yes, I'm not gifted ). Even harder for a little kid or somebody who's utterly clumsy or tone deaf. By the looks of it, I think Wii Music is in the business of extracting that joy of performing together (and actually get something listenable) without the burden that comes with the real world complications. This, to me, is ingenious. You make a good point though. There is also another form of 'fun' in practicing a lot, even for years and years, to learn to hit the right note at the right time, control your breathing, controlling the weight on your wrist or fingers, etc etc. All that even before getting to the point where you feel that the instrument is the extension of your body and play it while sleeping. But that version of 'fun' isnt what Wii Music is trying to extract. It's a very limited software, which seems to me as something that came out of researching on why people have fun when playing together. They then narrowly focussed on the element of 'fun' that can involve anybody. The simplification seems about right given that they are trying to ensure everybody can participate in the process, if they care to do so. But, I understand that that 'fun' isn't for everybody, like anything in life. Hehe cheers. Yeah I think this sort of thing can always evolve or improve, but I can just imagine dragging some of my mates who are completely inept in performing music and actually do something together in musical terms. I do agree it's limited - hell, I play real instrument (violin) pretty well - so I'm well aware of its short comings, but with a little thinking it becomes clear what Nintendo looked into to come up with this idea.
  9. I just saw the E3 conference video with Miyamoto bunch, I think it's fantastic. I'm a little surprised about criticism I read here, but I can understand it as generating 'fun' in games have been mostly about being given a target and reaching that target as a gamer. Wii Music seems to be different. Are you people familiar with the 'fun' of performing music with others? I used to play the violin and did a lot of that in my early teens. Lately I picked up a keyboard and with my mates on guitar and drums we do our own little gig. If you play Guitar Hero, I think you're automatically tasting this joy of performing together, though identifying that 'fun' might be unclear due to the distinct goal driven nature of Guitar Hero. I see Wii Music to be a free form version of this, where you could dictate the style of the outcome. I suspect Nintendo tried to put a scoring system, then realized they can't really come up with a formula to judge your band's performance. So it's not goal driven. But so is a real band, which is completely free form. Except, to be in a real band or orchestra requires a lot of effort and money, so this sort of creative 'fun' is hard to come by. I think this is the gap Wii Music is trying to fill. Your grandma or 5 year old brother or a tone deaf mate of yours can now join. Nintendo said they are trying to "engage people in different ways". This is definitely one way, a good way too. Obviously it's not for everybody, like Final Fantasy or Halo isn't for everybody. But I'm pretty sure it will be successful in generating 'fun' for those of us who like this sort of thing.
  10. you find it cool?? Blimey... Apparently they feed on polymer based material like hair and present no harm. I can see that's handy, like earth worms and spiders, they help you out and clean up your room somewhat without side effects. Unfortunately these helpful creatures look creepy. If only they looked like little kitten.
  11. I was around for about a month after the first infestation, got borax and tried to poison them. No good. I think number went down but I still saw them sometimes. Then I got lucky and got to go to Japan on a short trip, and came back. Unfortunately the silverfish are still around. I really hate it, but I don't think I can do more, other than completely clearing out under the fridge which is wedged into the whole kitchen unit. It really is annoying, I try not to think about it.
  12. Sorry to dig this up lads, but I realise I didn't update on it despite everybody helping me. As you all noticed it is the so called silverfish. Ugly stuff, they're so creepy. I've also proven the scientists wrong by witnessing that they DO climb walls, because I saw one on the wall. I cleared out the floor (except for under the fridge which is clearly where they come from) so I think they got desperate for food and climbed up the wall! Hard to believe, but now I know why I sometimes saw them on the kitchen table. I don't think they're good at it though, but they DO climb walls. They're still around btw... creepy buggers. I think I've given up now.
  13. I so can't wait for this DQV ds. It's possibly one of my fav, though hard to pick just 1. I've been playing DQIV ds since its release in Japan somewhat slowly (still ch4) and Im loving it too. I can't be happier this christmas, it's a DQ heaven
  14. I need help. This post is mostly a description of the insect Im having probs with. The other night I found my cat sitting in the kitchen, looking curiously at the floor. I had an inkling for a while, but it seems I have had a (very) minor infestation under the fridge, for about 3 months. The thing is, I don't know what the hell this thing is. They are dark colour (grey to black-ish), thin and about a quarter inch long (7mm) or smaller if they're a baby (lighter colour). It's a kind of arthropod. Imagine Sting Larva from Metroid Prime Hunters, Kanden's transformation. It looks like that. I THINK it has many legs. It's very fast moving. No wings or ability to crawl on the wall (to my knowledge). It has a soft, teardrop-shaped body. I think it's multi-segmented, kinda like a worm. But I don't think it is a worm... but I'm not sure. It comes across like an insect, much like a elongated mite. When I tap it with a kitchen paper, it dies. I think its body is mostly water. They don't seem to do any harm. Just annoying because I turn on the light in the kitchen and I see 1 or 2 sitting on the floor. I approach them quietly and sometimes they notice me and start running around like mad till they go under the fridge. I'm no good with insects in general, so I just use kitchen paper to kill them, pick them up and throw it all away. I need to know what's causing them (e.g. rotten food usually attract flies). I have a cat litter in the kitchen, but it's clean and I've never had this till this summer. I tried to google for it, but no good as I don't even know what it is. BTW, I've never seen them in daylight hours. They only seem to be active in the dark.
  15. There have been some like them, just not have the prem league connection. Most we hear about "Asian football" here in the UK is when it has something to do with marketting football in asia, so that part becomes dominant in people's minds, I reckon. I think they're just underrated overall and they're to blame too as they didn't bother coming out of the dark ages till mid 90s. Some asian countries still are in dark ages, as much as I understand. It is changing though and I realized that watching this year's asian cup.
  16. I agree with your sentiments. If we were to talk about poor teams there are plenty in UEFA cup as well, but that doesn't make it worthless to win. Another thing to bear in mind, as much as I've seen on eurosports recently asian teams are getting very good. I think one big factor has been the diabolically high competitiveness. Especially this year. If I'm not mistaken, Japan/South Korea/Iran/Saudi Arabia are the typical top 4 and with Australia in it, there are 5 close teams. Iraq winning the cup was completely unexpected. I think a lot of criticisms directed at Asia's football has more to do with stereotyping and dark ages that they were in till late 90s (which isn't all that long ago). There just isn't a very good impression of them, full stop. I wonder how many people in this country actually know much about asian football, never mind watch them. Yet many are quick to knock them.
  17. lol. Here's our very own Mr. Capitalist. I agree completely though. There isn't a lot we can do about it unless we change the system to have poorer life ourselves. Capitalism's theory says that if we're all greedy, the standard of living gets better for the whole country. It has worked looking back the last 60 years, but with it came some nasties.
  18. Yeah I must admit it does look nasty... but I'll eat it BTW I remember this fastfood outlet called Wendy's. Do you know? I don't see them around very much now, if at all. I used to hate their burger for some reason. The meat is soggy and flabby and it felt like undercooked. It might have been one off though.
  19. I agree with that sentiment... I think teachers deserve more too. We give too much attention to entertainment in today's world. Like movies, TV, football, music etc. That gives them a lot of money to work with (e.g. Sky TV give shed loads of money to prem league & clubs because lots of people watch them). Combine that with the prestige that prem league has, it's a massive economy in its own right. One way to stop this is to reduce support. If demand is cut, supply is cut too so prem league will become poorer and insignificant. We have to choose one or the other.
  20. I think you missed my point there mate. What I was saying was, it's precisely BECAUSE of the economic system we have that John Terry was able to get 130k. We can change the system to stop this, but if we do we'll likely become another country that needs help like Africa in a long run. Free economy is the key to becoming a rich country.
  21. That was my reaction as well on 1st impression... but seriously, when you think about the way economy works, it's perfectly normal and justified. We've all benefited from the way economy works and society has gotten richer overall. Those countries who haven't risen like that usually have deficiencies in their own countries, like not having proper democracy or lacking freedom for the lay people. Or business law is restrictive, etc etc... Most poor countries choke themselves somewhere in the loop. I'm not saying we shouldn't help. I'm just saying, 130k for a footballer makes perfect sense in our system.
  22. You sure!??? Ok then I guess that's possible, but I thought all prem clubs have a big loan, but profit enough to pay the interest on the loan & wages so the banks let them continue having the loan. Leeds is the exception when they went bust and administrators went in to get get the loan back. All that said, with Mr A's deep pockets perhaps he may very well be bailing them... if so, that's a pretty scary thought. What if Mr A quit...!! Chelsea is in deep trouble.
  23. My chart toppers are: 1. Big Mac (McDonald's) 2. Whopper burger (Burger King) 3. Chicken Fillet burger (KFC) 4. Bacon Double Cheeseburger (Burger King) 3 vs 4 is close. Maybe they flip over sometimes. But I just can't escape the grip of Big Mac sauce...
  24. You sure? I thought it's because of the new TV deal that allowed them silly money like that. Abramovich would pay for transfer, but for wage, I thought the club could afford it based on income? Not sure though. In fact thinking about it, you might be right because Ballak and Shevchenko are also getting like 120k a week aren't they.
  25. They can afford it, thats the prob. That's modern economy... sadly. We take it for granted because we benefit from it as well actually. Then one day, something like this (about Terry's wage) happens and it's a slap on our faces. But seriously... 130k a week. OMG! What would I do every week with that sort of money??
