Do you not get any Wii Points with your brand new Wii? I think its pretty stingey making you buy Wii Points from the start, anyone not think it would have been kind for them to include like 500 or something for each console?

I would like to know too, I alway thought they would include some point like the did with that star crap. Only this time it would be useful.

the wii comes with 0 wii points and you need to download the first set of updates before you can even use the wii shop channel

wii points can either be purchased with a credit card on the wii shop channel or you can buy a 2000 wii points card in a store.

though the card will be over priced so i would recomend buying them over the net.

I think the points are priced evenly between the card and the in store cards.

The only advantage to an instore card is that kids can buy it, and that it is a good gift.

The advantage of buying on a credit card is you get more flexibility.. you can buy anywhere between 1000 and 5000 (in 1000 increments) so you don't have to feel pressurised into buying 2000 points if just want Mario.

no stores will overprice them to make a profit on them. nintendo makes a profin no mater how cheap they sell them

its better to buy on console not in store and like nintendork said the amount you buy is flexible if you buy on console. the in store points cards are for parents to buy their kids for christmas because the kids will just see that they have the points and spend them whithout there parents even knowing.

the in store card are more designed to be gift cards like the itunes gift cards you can get.

I've only seen '2000' point cards availible to buy so far....there £14.99 on Gameplay!

Also you get some points with the 'classic controller'.

I'm trying to buy as many as i can because theres alot of megadrive games i want from day one and there a whopping 800 points each (which seems expensive to me).

A recent interview (can't find it) said that you can actually get Wii Points free with it. Whether he was talking about Europe I don't know. And yes, you can only get 2000 points cards in stores, Japan is the only region to offer varying points in retailers.

If it's like the stars catalog where you get some with a game and stuff then I'll use em/ If not I'll just keep playing the retro games on my PC or wait till some nifty chinese hackers open up the virtual console to some tinkering.

I've not heard about free Wii Points, however, as an incentive to download some classics, can't see why Nintendo don't just give you say 500 Wii Points - thats enough for a NES game at least.

And instead of giving away VIP Stars/My Nintendo Points, why not give Wii Points away with games purchases? Or at least have them linked somehow.

If they at least gave you some free it would get people setting up the virtual console and convince them to use it once. It'd definitely make people more likely to fork out for extra points.

In Japan the first 50,000 people to buy a classic controller get some free Wii points. Not in Europe or America though.

You don't get any with the system.

Stores are not overpricing them in the US, I have no reason to believe they will in the UK.

You don't get ripped off by your local newsagents when you want to put £10 on your phone just because it's a different network.

This is a currency and I think it's going to be fairly priced. Just like Microsoft points and iTunes credits.

I think 2000 points in the US has an RRP of $20.

I think 2000 points in the UK has an RRP of £20

Which, unless we have games for less points, its quite a rip-off.

I've only ever seen 2000 points priced at £14.99 so would presume that that is the going rate.

will points bought on a card in the USA work on a europe Wii? i only ask as im in new york for xmas!

If i remember correctly, im not sure, only wii points bought in europe will work on pal Wii's and vice versa for US Wii's.

Im not sure though.

Prices in the UK are different than those in the rest of Europe - rest assured, you won't be ripped off. Except, we're all being ripped of by the cheap American Wii Points cards, wich cost about €15 (£10). Shit.

I think the points are pretty fair aswell.I would of thought ,lets say you get TP,you would get a Zelda VC game for free to promote the VC.

yeah I think stuff like that shud happen its only fair, even if its one of the lesser games, Zelda 2 NES even (i know i know not a proper zelda game)
