Mr. Bananagrabber Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 As a heterosexual, this offends me.
Cube Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I'm starting to feel that the media is now looking for any reasons (however stupid) to have a go at Rockstar. 1. Hidden content in game that requires user to a) Purchase a cheat device and b) go on some dodgy internet site to get the code (probably with porn adverts). 2. A game called bully: about stopping bullies. Media "we must stop this game, where you terrorise the school as a bully". 3. 2 Boys kiss. This is perfectly fine in The Sims, but in a Rockstar game....It should not be in there. Still....the "new" name in Europe can't be doing the game much good, what with all this media on a game called "Bully".
Librarian Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 well I was convinced that you turn gay the moment you set your foot inside a private english school.. or what they are called.. boarding schools? Oh yes I have seen it on television...
Kurtle Squad Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 well I was convinced that you turn gay the moment you set your foot inside a private english school.. or what they are called.. boarding schools?Oh yes I have seen it on television... Yeah, you're right Anyway...why is homosexuality now contriversial again?? Isn't it more so to ignore it and all that kinda stuff?
Samdecahedron Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 To be honest, this can only be good for games. Games are seen as homophobic anyway, and this has taken a big step in getting rid of that.
Zechs Merquise Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Rockstar court controversy, this game has been all about that, infact, I think most of their titles are. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to say anything is going too far, and if it was in a movie there wouldn't be a squeak. In fact look at films like Crank, which shows the main character, Chev, raping his girlfriend in broad daylight in chinatown amgonst a crowd of onlookers - that didn't cause any outrage. But I'm not going to pretend that this game isn't all about 'headlines', it may well be fantastic game, but Rockstar knew when they were developing it that it would sell by the bucket load - whether it was good or bad - due to the press going wild over it. I can see why some parents are a little annoyed over a game which glorifies bullying when the problem is a curse to thousands of children all over Britain everyday. So while I would never advocate restrictions on Freedom of Speech, I can see why people would be upset over this.

I can see why some parents are a little annoyed over a game which glorifies bullying when the problem is a curse to thousands of children all over Britain everyday. So while I would never advocate restrictions on Freedom of Speech, I can see why people would be upset over this. I disagree. From what I've seen, you don't play a bully in the game — if anything you're subject to bullying from caricature adults. Just because tabloids insist that's what the game is about doesn't make it true. Also, the creation of Rockstar's games and their advertising are two separate things. Yes the company bases games on controversial scenarios, but that's because they make games about what they want, not what they're given — just look at The Warriors and Table Tennis, titles based on subjects the developers were interested in. I'm not saying Rockstar's PR department don't exacerbate things, but that's their prerogative: the media's inane accusations generate ridiculous amounts of free advertising. As for the topic at hand, I fail to see how kissing boys in Canis Canem Edit is any 'worse' than flirting with and marrying men in Fable. In any case, it's laughable that people are worried about the game turning people gay; as a general rule, I don't bother with the opinions of such people.
Librarian Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 you can bully in this game but our "hero" is a "good guy".. he helps the weak and only beat up the evil ones.. he he.. and I have just kissed my first boy in the game.. hmmm.. didn't do me any harm..
