Posted August 17, 2006 Check your start-up registry. (assuming its win xp) Start > Run > type in "msconfig" > startup Uncheck all the programs you dont need to start when you boot up your pc. Leave necessary system32 .exe's and antivirus etc.

Posted August 18, 2006 Yes, make sure it is completely removed. Some anti virus programs require you to get a uninstall.exe from the website so that virus's can't uninstall your scanner. And make sure you reboot between taking the old one off and putting the new one on.

Posted August 20, 2006 Personally i reformat my pc every 6 months of so, helps keep it at a good speed. though i probably wouldnt recommend it unless youve done it a few times before and have multiple backups of everything.

As long as you take care browsing teh pr0n. What? You need an anti-virus program. Doesn't Windows Security Centre shout at you for not having one installed? The best virus protection is to buy a Mac :P
Posted August 20, 2006 The best virus protection is to buy a Linux :P QFT I would recommend Avast! over AVG as it looks cooler and AVG has that annoying pig thing.
Posted August 20, 2006 I used Avast! for a while but it kept corrupting on me (on multiple machines) so I gave it up for AVG.
