I accidently went out with and slept with someone who turned out to be my third cousin earlier this year - whoops!

This thread and post reminds me of this classic song by Madness

Down in Trinidad there was a family

With much confusion as you will see

A mama and a papa and a boy who was grown

He wanted to marry and have a wife of his own

He found a girl she suited him nice

He went to his father to ask his advice

His father said: "Son, I have to say no,

The girl is your sister, but your mama don't know"

Oh, misery

Shame and scandal in the family

I say oh, misery

Shame and scandal in the family

Then a week went by and the summer came down

Soon the best girl on the island he found

He went to his papa to make it a date

His papa shook his head and to this he did say

"You Can't marry that girl I have to say no

Cause the girl is your sister, but your mama don't know"

Oh, misery

Shame and scandal in the family

I say Oh, misery

It’s shame and scandal in the family

He went to his mama, he covered his head

He told his mum what his father had said

His mother she laughed,

she said: "Go man, go

Your daddy ain't your daddy, but your daddy don't know"

Oh, misery

It’s shame and scandal in the family

Oh, misery

Shame and scandal in the family

I say oh, misery

Shame and scandal in the family

I say oh, misery

Marriage of Cousins

Despite the long list of degrees of forbidden relationship, you can marry a cousin (courtesy of Henry VIII who changed the law to marry his cousin!). However, it would be sensible for you both to consult your GP to ensure that there are no factors in your family's health records that would make your decision to have children inadvisable on medical grounds.

basically anyone with "mother" "father" "aunt" "uncle" "brother" or "sister" in their title (in relation to you) is by law out of the question in the uk (but for most thats the case anyway)

exceptions are (according to the site I read) great grand parents, who are only illegal in Scotland, and stepbrother/sister under certain circumstances.

Although speaking of, kinda have a crush on my friend's cousin. That feels kinda awkward, probably just me though...

So do I, but I haven't seen her for a year now. It doesn't feel awkward at all, my friend even said it was cool. :heh:

My friend's mum thinks its cool too, somehow she knows and whenever she talks about her she looks over at me to see my expression.

On Euro Trip the hot girl (the twin) gets off with her brother....

My godmother and godfather are an aunt and an uncle... I thought they usually were relatives?

I doubt mine have met since I was Christened... Although it does make more sense if they are relatives.... Different families must do it differently....
