Shorty Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Dante, think you'll have to add finalfantasy-xiii.net to the list of sites you can't leech images from (along with gaming-age)
Daft Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Not really that impressed tbh. Why should I be excited for this? I've genuinely forgotten.
Falcon_BlizZACK Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Not really that impressed tbh. Why should I be excited for this? I've genuinely forgotten. I kinda understand what you mean. But for me, I would like to witness that new dual world, tactical battles, a mini game as addictive as Bliztball, summons, music, atmosphere... I just miss the whole Final Fantasy experience due to side-stepping FF11 and 12.

I just miss the whole Final Fantasy experience due to side-stepping FF11 and 12. This ^ (I skipped 10, 11, and 12) and the fact that Dragon Quest isnt coming to the PS3 afaik is the reason im getting it. I do admit though, new FF releases dont pull me in the way they used to. The series has progressively lost much of the simplistic charm that VI perfected

I just miss the whole Final Fantasy experience due to side-stepping FF11 and 12. Fair enough. I've never played an FF game, don't ask me how I got hired by Square, except for the first disk of 9 but I got bored of that. I hope I like this.

Dante Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 New Info? Keywords First a little summary of what we know so far about the game’s world. fal’Cie created Cocoon, a floating city with millions of people and pick their l’Cie to carry out their missions. The city is governed by the Holy Government and prosper thanks to the use of crystals. Lightning, Snow and the newly named Oeba Dia Vanille are all l’Cie, who fal’Cie communicate with through “Vision”. It seems that even these l’Cie are not clear of their missions. Oeba Dia Vanille Final Fantasy XIIIIn the latest trailer, Vanille is seen being taken away by guards waiting to be expelled to Pulse, a world underneath Cocoon that the people of Cocoon very afraid of. Holy Government has the right to expel people they suspect of having ‘bad influence’ on Cocoon, although it’s still unknown what Vanille did to get herself into trouble. She is also friend to Lightning and Snow, the latest screen shows her playing around with Snow’s weapon. Her own weapon is something looks like curvy tree branches and can be folded when not in use. Famitsu also noted that since her fashion is so different from Lightning and others, it’s possible that Cocoon also has people of different cultures. While she may looks cute and cheerful, Famitsu says there are some tragic story behind her. Holy Government Army Final Fantasy XIIIThe Holy Government army, where Lightning used to be a former soldier, is a mix of normal soldier called “Psicom” and monsters that are mechanically enhanced. Psicom’s is being lead by a general that appears to be strong with his special tactic skills. Final Fantasy XIIILightning and a mysterious character, who Famitsu says seems to know Lightning pretty well, standing in front of a “Ibutsu” (foreign substance) ‘tied’ with light strings. “Ibutsu” has the ability to turn water and ice into crystal and there is ’something’ inside it that Lightning wanted. Lightning Final Fantasy XIII CG and real-time versions of Lightning, which looks almost similar. As mentioned before, Lightning was formerly a member of the Holy Government army and in a cut scene (above right), she can be seen telling somebody that she wasn’t fired or being kicked out from the army, but do so voluntarily. Before battles, she can triggers a tiny object in her thumb and a blue wave will then surrounds her, which seems to give her the power to control objects. The weapon in her hand can change from a sword to gun on the fly too. Besides weapons, she has magic attacks and as one of the commands shown, she can use Cure magic too. Battle System Battles in FFXIII take place on the spot and depending on the command being used, the viewpoint will change automatically in order to present a battle that is fast and smooth. If there are other members in the party, they will help you out with moves such as follow-up attacks on enemies that you just sent flying away. You can also switch to other characters on the fly during battles. Final Fantasy XIII Lightning is up against a large size “Heavy Attack Manasvin” made by the Holy Government. The machine is being used for patrol as well and the massive looking laser attack seems deadly. Its various parts suggest a wide variety of attacking options. Final Fantasy XIII Command Stock: Players select the “Action” (the five buttons near the bottom left of the screen) they would like to use, which is then moved to the Command Stock slots (three slots above the Action buttons) to be executed in turn. Some “Action” buttons seem to have several layers behind them, which means you’ll have more than five actions to choose from. Command Cost: Each of the “Action” has a number attached to them, this is the “Cost” or the number of slots that particular “Action” will take in the Command Stock. For example, you can have three Fire command in the list since it’s “Cost” is only 1 but you can only use Firaga, which costs 3, if you have three empty slots in the Command Stock. Enhanced ATB (Active Time Battle): The bar underneath Lightning’s name (the one with 444 value) indicates that the game will be using ATB system, where players can perform various actions before it’s empty. However, ATB in FFXIII is a little different and can be controlled by the players as it is affected by the kind of commands being executed in the Command Stock. Commands with larger “Cost” will drain the bar faster compare commands with lower “Cost”. Symbol Encounter: Enemies are visible on the map and again there will be no battle screen transition. Chain & Bonus: Located at the top right of the screen, Chain shows the number of consecutive hits you inflicted on the enemies while Bonus’ use is still unclear at this point. Previous reports shows “Overclock” in place of Bonus, Famitsu says this probably has something to do with increasing certain ability of your character. The word “Break” can be seen replacing “Chain” in some screens, still no official words on that but Famitsu says it probably related to Final Fantasy VII’s Limit Break. Enemy’s HP: Unlike previous games, enemies’ name and HP are displayed. Demo In typical Square Enix fashion, you can only play the demo, which was announced at TGS2008, by buying the expensive versions of Final Fantasy VII Advent Chirldren Complete. Three versions of the Blu-ray disc were announced actually, First Print Normal Edition and PlayStation 3 Bundle First Print Normal Edition will have the demo (Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII’s trailers also included) while Normal Edition will only has the movie.
marcel Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 is the battle system realtime or turned based, or particaly real time(like eternal sonata). It looks like real time/or particly real time.
Dante Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Fabula Nova Crystallis official site opens music tracks in mp3 format.
Dante Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Yes! IGN: Following the opening of the Final Fantasy XIII official site on Friday, Famitsu.com has posted a huge update on the game. Most of the information was shared in the site's print version a couple of weeks back, but the online posting at last allows everyone to see the screens for themselves. You can see the screenshots by browsing over to the original Famitsu.com article. Here's a screen-by-screen analysis, from top to bottom. First screenshot That hood may deceive at first, but the green eyes should leave no question: that's pigtail girl! Her full name is actually Oerba Dia Vanille. It was revealed a while back that she's a resident of the Pulse underworld. She was banished there by the religious government that governs the overworld of Cocoon. The governing body banishes anyone it believes to have been influenced by Pulse to the world below, although it seems that with Vanille at least, the reason for her suspicion was never shared. Second screenshot This shot shows Lightening in a train -- presumably that same train that she's been infiltrating since the first FFXIII trailer from years ago. Lightning, while once a soldier of the Cocoon government, now fights against the government. She's infiltrated the train in order to free people who are being banished to Pulse. She's not alone, as Famitsu.com says that she's being accompanied by a male character (this may or may not be in reference to Snow, aka bandana guy). Third screenshot There isn't really any solid information provided by the Famitsu.com text for this shot, so you can guess for yourself what it is that Lightning is investigating. The the male character in this screenshot is another unidentified character. Fourth screenshot That menacing-looking character is an officer in the Cocoon army. As you might expect, officers like this guy have far greater power than regular soldiers. The Famitsu.com text also notes that the Cocoon army has, in addition to standard soldiers, powerful weapons and monsters under its command. Fifth screenshot This shot is from prior to battle. In FFXIII, you can see your enemy in advance, and can evade them if you don't want to fight. The transition to battle is said to be seamless. Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth screenshots These shots are all from the heart of battle. The FFXIII battle system is command based. You select commands from a command palette, adding the commands to a stock. The moves in the stock are executed all at once. The resulting actions differ based off the selected commands and their ordering. The commands you can select are your typical Final Fantasy commands for attacks and magic. Also shown in the screenshots is a "launch" command, which sends the enemy flying into the air and allows Lightning to show off her acrobatics. The Famitsu.com text does not specify if there are any limitations on the ordering for your commands, although it seems like placing two launch commands in succession would be a bit silly. Each command has an associated cost. In the screenshots, the commands for attack, fire, launch, and cure all have a cost of 1. The Firaga spell, however, has a cost of 3. Lightning can perform a total cost of 3, meaning you can have three of the cost 1 moves or just one Firaga. It's unclear if Lightning is permanently limited to a cost of three, or if she'll be able to expand as her character develops. There are still plenty of mysteries with the Final Fantasy XIII battle system -- notably the mysterious gauge and "bonus" reading in the upper-right side of the battle shots. These will presumably be detailed in a future update. With the Final Fantasy XIII demo due to hit Japan in March through the Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete release, solid gameplay and story details are at long last starting to emerge on the game. It's likely that the information will continue to flow in over the next couple of months, so Final Fantasy fanatics should definitely check back periodically. Behind The Senes Development Footage
Dante Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Rumour: Final Fantasy XIII is one of the most expected games by the gamers communauty for 2009. But actually we had no informations about a date for the western side release and that is why the announced seen in Famitsu is pretty interesting 'Final Fantasy XIII is set to hit retail store shelves on both sides of the Pacific sometime later this year'. Dante Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Final Fantasy XIII US and EU Release Date: After April 2010 We already knew that Final Fantasy XIII was hitting Japanese shores sometime in 2009. Today Square-Enix has apparently told business news site Reuters, that Final Fantasy XIII will be released outside of Japan during the 2010 financial year which starts in April 2010. Some of you may be disappointed but this really is the best we could expect. If Square-Enix is trying to push the game out in Japan by late 2009, localisation and the Xbox 360 port will take some months to complete. A release date for Final Fantasy Versus XIII or Final Fantasy Agito XIII hasn't been mentioned. V-Jump Scans, Translated

Falcon_BlizZACK Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 You're kidding yeah? No. If you knew how to play it, then yes, it was addictive. And booooo for the late release date.
Dante Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Final Fantasy XIII got its latest blowout in Famitsu this week through a massive eight page feature. So, you're probably expecting an equally massive report here with all the details, right? Unfortunately, in typical style for anything Final Fantasy XIII-related, those eight pages are filled primarily with screenshots and speculation based off the screenshots. Most of the info in the magazine was already revealed in a recent issue of Jump. Famitsu has at long last introduced its readers to Sazh Katzroy -- you know, the guy with the afro and the little baby Chocobo that lives in the afro. We did manage to pick out a few notable bits, though. First off, a tiny bit about Sazh's combat style. While it was known that he makes use of dual guns, Famitsu also reveals that he can make use of magic as well. In the latest screens, Sazh is shown casting a fire spell against a giant enemy as Lightning takes what appears to be a blocking posture in the background. Sazh's use of guns should contrast nicely with Lightning, who appears to be more suited for up-close combat (although it should be noted that Lightning can use guns too). We'll get a chance early on in the game to see the two in action together, as Famitsu reveals that Sazh is Lightning's very first battle partner in the game. In a previous update, Famitsu.com mentioned an unidentified man who's in the company of Lightning when she infiltrates a train that's making its way to Pulse (this is the train from that very first FFXIII trailer). The mystery man is almost assuredly Sazh. He and Lightning have apparently taken the disguise of prisoners in order to get on the train. FFXIII director Motomu Toriyama shared a tiny blurb with Famitsu's readers about the game. The baby Chocobo who accompanies Sazh, said Toriyama, was born recently and can only fly just a bit. The creature has yet to be named. We're not sure if Toriyama means that Sazh has yet to give it a name as part of the game's storyline, or if the development staff has yet to decide on a final name. Finally, just one intriguing little bit for those who are trying to get an image of what FFXIII's battle system will be like. While the ability to mix and match commands as you like seems like it will give the game a strong strategic side, Toriyama notes that those commands are chained into combos resulting in a variety of actions, allowing for a cool, refreshing fight. This presumably means FFXIII's battles are going to look pretty darn cool. Hopefully, Square Enix will start sharing some footage so that everyone can see for themselves. new scans:
Shorty Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 No. If you knew how to play it, then yes, it was addictive. And booooo for the late release date. It was rubbish even when you could win every time. Especially after the game started with an awesome FMV which made blitzball look amazing.
Falcon_BlizZACK Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 It was rubbish even when you could win every time. Especially after the game started with an awesome FMV which made blitzball look amazing. Well I genuinely loved the idea of turn-based sport and the recruiting factor. I only got bored when, yes, I could win all the time but getting cool techniques/overdrives were great incentives to carry on playing. And what is it with the Japanese and their thing for afros and birds? (points to that dude in Faron Woods in TP).
Dante Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Wow! Looks fantastic! Is this going to have English subtitles? the trailer is subbed for the English's site
Sheikah Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 It was rubbish even when you could win every time. Especially after the game started with an awesome FMV which made blitzball look amazing. Yeah - sad to say it was very sluggish with the time stopping all the time, and the stat-based concept just turned it into a number cruncher rather than giving the feeling of a sports game. It was also incredibly easy, since it was just a matter of leveling up.
