A few bits and pieces from the Sony business meeting.

The PS5 has been their most profitable generation so far.

PS4 remains an important part of their business.

However, he revealed that PlayStation 4 still makes up exactly half of its monthly active console users at 49 million users.

"As you can see, our PlayStation 5 userbase has continued to grow significantly, driving to half of our monthly active consoles," Nishino said during a web call. "While the PlayStation 4 is still an important part of our business, our PlayStation 5 players are even more engaged than in the previous generation, and we expect these trends to continue."

According to SIE, PS5 users are spending more money and spending more time playing games than on PS4. PS5 users are spending, per console, more on add-on content (+176%), services (+57%) and peripherals (+34%), but 12% less on full games, according to Sony.

Going forward, the platform holder said it wants to introduce more players to PS5 via peripherals and extending to new devices. Currently, the number of shipped PS5 consoles (59.3 million) is roughly in line with where PlayStation 4 was during the same period of its lifespan (60 million).

This doesn't really surprise me. With games still being released on the platform, many people don't feel the need to upgrade yet.

Lastly, Spider-Man 2 has managed to move 11 million copies since release.

I wanna get into the groove of finishing games again...
Dropped Tunic quite far into it but can't be arsed to go back...Dave the Diver is ok, but not for me right now...started RDR2 and couldn't get on with it...Paper Mario: TTYD is losing me quickly...

URGH. Haven't finished a game since ZeroRanger in April!!!!!!

Decided to download Cat Quest and see what the fuss is about. It supposed to be a relatively short but sweet game.

Now, the thing is: For about 1 1/2 weeks I got a little more time to play games but after that the weeks will be busy as all hell again :D This year might be one of the weirdest for me in so many ways.

Oh, how repetitive it is...and I loathe puns.
It's a nice game to mindlessly slash away while listening to a podcast, though.

Didn't think you would take to it. :(

I love them both, which is surprising considering my hatred towards cats. :p You are right though, it is a very basic formula.

It's much more tolerable now that I have

the ability to fly.

Makes it much more snappy.

But still...I'm only two hours in and I feel like I've seen everything the game has to offer in half of that time.

The Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee has rated the original Octopath Traveler for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

Octopath Traveler first launched for Switch on July 13, 2018, followed by PC via Steam on June 7, 2019, Stadia on April 28, 2020, and Xbox One on March 25, 2021. While the sequel Octopath Traveler II launched for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 simultaneously alongside Switch and PC, the original game never came to PlayStation.

Finally!

Lego Horizon looks to be real.

Quote

The announcement of LEGO Horizon Adventures appears to be an inevitability at this point, as reliable leaker Billbil-Kun has posted another report sharing further details ahead of the public reveal. According to the insider, Sony will confirm the project during the Summer Game Fest live show tomorrow, but what's most interesting is the leaker claims the title will release for PS5 and PC on the same day.

I wonder if they release more Lego sets with it?

I...have genuinely no idea what to make of this, and it's been doing the rounds for a little while now.

I just...I don't know, I found Zero Dawn to be a really pretty robot hunting game with pretty middling content around that, and I still haven't got around to Forbidden West (though, I don't play all that many open world games as is anyways). I just don't see the pull of this franchise personally (which is fine), but now it's getting a LEGO game, there was that cartoony Monster Hunter-looking game which leaked in development at one point a good while ago, that PS5 remaster of the first game...

Yet, by all means, it sells gangbusters and from everything I've read the LEGO Tallneck was a huge success. So, I guess that means more LEGO and more Horizon spinning off? ::shrug:

Think I'm getting old :p

That's probably true.
Maybe your age is rubbing off on him. You're almost 60, right? :p

It says a lot that I'm around 10 years his senior, and I'm still on the younger side of the N-Europe spectrum.

Not a bad thing, mind. Somewhat mature conversation here compared to other places on the web.

PlayStation will be returning to TGS this September – their first appearance at the event since 2019!

Good stuff. TGS is tucked away right at the end of September this year, so I imagine we'll get the September Showcase or State of Play a week or two ahead of time.

Got to imagine this is aligned with news for PS5 Pro, potential 30th anniversary goodies, and maybe a focus on some Japanese releases? DS2, Monster Hunter Wilds, and rumoured games like that Gravity Rush 2 remaster/remake/whatever it is would all make a lot of sense for an event like this.

Anniversary news/celebration is what I'm hoping for.

I imagine the Pro would have its own thing, with Cerny giving the details of the new console.
