I’m going to assume it’s stuff on stages that can hurt you or interact with. So something like the Mario Kart stage where the karts race around, wouldn’t have the karts racing around.
Sorry @S.C.G possibly no bridge braking tonight

It's a moot point, none of those stages are here tonight.

Reposting the theme for the new page.

Competitive Smash!

About a month ago, the Kagaribi 13 Tournament took place in Japan. It's one of the many Smash Bros. Tournaments that are happening these days, but it did have one of the largest amount of prominent competitive Smash players gathered in one place in quite a while.

So, I decided to make a theme around it. I looked at the list of participants in order of highest placing seed, went down the list, and took note of the character each player put down as their main. I kept going until I got 20 different characters.

I only needed to get to the 27th seed before I met the 20 quota. The variety of characters in that list is mad impressive! I think every character was there with at least one player! Goes to show how exceptional the balance in Smash Ultimate is.
Anyway, so as far as competitive Smash is concerned, these are the best 20 characters.
Which is hilarious, because I would only say 5 of these characters are great in comparison to the rest of the roster. But well, we play Smash in a more normal setting, don't we?

Not this week though, I'm going almost all in on this.

Every stage here is allowed in standard competitive tournaments.
At least, that was the plan, but that would only leave us with, like, 7 stages. That's unacceptable, so I expanded it to include stages that are allowed under the "Gentleman Rule" (Stages that are allowed if both players agree to it beforehand)

There are no items tonight.
Yes, I know, I'm one of the biggest advocates of "Smash isn't Smash without items", but you know, I guess I can stomach it every once in a while... or every twelve years...

Now this is important, there's a setting I've activated that is very unothordox here.

Format: 3 Stock, 8 Minutes
FS Meter: Off
Stage Hazards: Off

I have never turned Stage Hazards off even once since this game came out, so I have no idea what it actually changes!
Also, I said I almost went all in on this, because technically I should make every match 1 V 1, but come on, I wanna avoid people waiting to play as much as I can.

Custom Stages from 7:30pm.

EDIT: Oh right, before I forget. When I give the heads up for the last match. Pick Fox.
Yes, I want to do the overplayed competitive Smash joke. We won't get another chance for a very long time. Might as well.

I can't make it tonight.

Geez, I know no items isn't as fun as regular items, but you can be more subtle about it!

Joking, obviously. A shame, but thanks for the heads up.

Yay, I'm the best Fox!

Fun games there, the no item setup does make for some really close matches, and some great finishes too. But let's now put that away for another 10 years. Back to item and mayhem.

@Glen-i, seeing as @BowserBasher won't be playing this weekend (because you often spectate during custom and also aren't the biggest fan of 1v1 battles) let me know if you'd rather give the custom stage segment a miss this time around.

You misunderstand what's happening there. That's not me wanting to skip fights, that's real life getting in the way, or me eating dinner later then usual.
BowserBasher can attest to that.

Yep, he never gets his food delivered before Smash. You'd think he'd know what time we play Smash each week. :hehe:

Oh no, I figured it was something like that. :hehe: Anyway, that sounds like the kind of multitasking that could end with nasty indigestion :heh: so once again, if you need to skip it this week just let me know.

That fight on the Tomodachi stage was so distracting for me, literally every room had a Fresh Prince Mii inside!

Anyway cheers for the games!

Cheers for the games! :)
I guess this was our last N-E Smash session on the original Switch, ey? See you over on Switch 2, where hopefully the increased power (despite no S2 upgrade for the game as of yet) will be able to better cope with silly custom stages! :heh:

Yeeeahhhh... We've had some proper BS wins over the years, but I'm not even gonna pretend I deserved that win with Sephiroth on Dracula's Castle.

I feel dirty, after that.

Great MK stage @RedShell  I’m assuming it didn’t work right first time round as Cow didn’t make his appearance. Me and @Glen-i kept wondering when something was going to happen. We know you so well.

I'll let you in on a secret... ;)

Spoiler

It actually worked perfectly, every time. :hehe:

Yep, with this new stage I finally accomplished something that I've been trying to do ever since Stage Builder arrived, and that is to make a truly random event!

The way Stage Builder's physics work prevent truly random things from happening with any objects that are set to zero gravity, objects will always fall/move in a completely predictable way each time. You can kind of fake randomness (as seen in a lot of my stages :heh:) but I always thought it was impossible to make something actually random, until now.

Unfortunately, I don't really know exactly how or why it's ended up being random, meaning it's unlikely that I'll be able to recreate it for another stage. Also, I really wanted to have Cow be on the player level (as a hazard :D) but doing so would wreck the frame rate and often crash Stage Builder. :shakehead In fact, it crashed more than ever while making this Mario Kart World stage.

Anyway, glad you both enjoyed it.

Awesome. I did actually notice a flicker of something before we had Cow show up and mentioned to Glen that I was seeing something. he didn't see it at first but then did notice. I could only describe it as cloud flashing in front of the screen for a fraction of a second.

I had a thought whilst playing, but it would mean you had put way too much thought into it.

So I thought that as this was played the Saturday before release, I thought to myself, maybe he's done it so that nothing appears and next week when he picks it there will be karts showing up. So it's like a preview of the track before the racers turn up.

Yeah, that's the respawn effect. For some reason it doesn't appear where it should, it should happen in the same spot as the Cow (which is off-screen) but instead it's huge and almost in the middle of the screen. :heh:::shrug:
Perhaps that's what's causing it to behave in a random way, something is clearly breaking behind the scenes anyway, but again, no idea what I did to cause it.

Hehehe! :hehe:
Now that would be cool. I'd need a more advanced Stage Builder for something like that though! :D
