Glen-i Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Got some ridiculously good 1V1 finishes tonight. But yeah, @Ike has to have the best one with his Zero Suit Samus VS my Mario. Amazing comeback! Absolutely deserved!

BowserBasher Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Great games guys. We all got a fair share of win. Sorry @Glen-i you can’t win with Samus when I’m Samus. You know Samus always wins. 1 1

You must have, because I was Samus, and any of us can tell you that Samus always wins. Samus not winning is just incorrect! 1 1
S.C.G Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Nobody: Terry: "AreYouOK?-BUSTAHWALF! AreYouOK?-BUSTAHWALF! AreYouOK?-BUSTAHWALF!" "But, there are other moves..." "POWAHGUYZAHHHHH!" "Yes, yes there are." https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2443418893?t=01h26m06s Thanks for the games. 3

RedShell Posted May 3 Posted May 3 It might be getting a bit too hot for the poor old Switch already, not to mention for me. Dunno what the hell happened during the game when I was Wolf. 🥴 Also, is Byleth's recovery move completely poo, or is it just me? Oh yeah, "Ness pinball" during sudden death on my Kirby stage was proper hilarious. Cheers for the games.

Wolf is that character in Ultimate. You need to be very careful with that move. 18 minutes ago, RedShell said: Also, is Byleth's recovery move completely poo, or is it just me? It's pretty decent, but you need to use it when you're under the edge of a stage (a lot like Ivysaur), otherwise you just kill all of your momentum.
BowserBasher Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Some great games later on when @Glen-i had to leave. I highly suggest a watch of the stream. @Ike great couple of games between us later on when @S.C.G was knocked out. Min Min vs Pyra/Mythra was much closer than it should have been. 2

I'm not a fan of how any of the Star Fox characters play really. 13 hours ago, Glen-i said: It's pretty decent, but you need to use it when you're under the edge of a stage (a lot like Ivysaur), otherwise you just kill all of your momentum. Indeed. My frantic attempts to recover on the Yoshi's Story stage made that very clear. It doesn't help that Byleth is another one of those characters that I only ever play as via random select, so am very much lacking in practice with them. By the way, were you and @BowserBasher also experiencing crazy slowdown on some of the custom stage battles yesterday? It was weird on my end as it didn't seem internet related, more like the Switch itself was struggling to keep up, and none of those stages usually cause issues.

We both got it on one of the early custom stages. But then it cleared up after. Yeah it’s definitely a Switch issue and not internet with some of your custom stages where the Switch is just like “dude I’m getting old, you can expect me to do that and be spritely” Roll on one month when hopefully we will have the power to run them smoothly. 1

I'm not a fan of how any of the Star Fox characters play really. If you manage to hit someone right at the endpoint of Wolf's Side B, it does a lot of damage, but the angle he travels at makes that really awkward and situational. Despite that, I still think he's the best one of those three. His side B sucks, but his other specials are pretty effective, but his air game is excellent. Fox is fine, doesn't really excel in anything. Falco's arguably the worst character in Ultimate, and not in a "Glen thinks Diddy Kong is bad because he utterly blows with Diddy Kong" way. He just has nothing going for him. That said, Ultimate has amazing balancing throughout the whole cast. I don't think any character in this game is even close to the woeful performances of Melee Kirby, Brawl Ganondorf, or Zelda in every game that isn't Ultimate. 2 hours ago, RedShell said: By the way, were you and @BowserBasher also experiencing crazy slowdown on some of the custom stage battles yesterday? Seeing as I had to bow out because of connection issues, even after you left, that was probably on me. 1

Glen-i Posted May 10 Posted May 10 2 minutes ago, Ike said: Although I didn’t know you turn around for follow up attack. Good to know. I always forget this, it's so weird for a Smash Bros character. Kinda like trying to learn that Bayonetta's best way of recovery is to do Up Special first, then double jump, and Up Special again, followed by a Side Special.
RedShell Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Shocking performance from me tonight, especially during custom. That 2x KO to end the match as Roy was pretty sweet though, even if I do say so myself. Cheers guys, enjoy the rest of the games!
BowserBasher Posted May 10 Posted May 10 2 hours ago, Ike said: Curse Min-min and her… ARMS! Although I didn’t know you turn around for follow up attack. Good to know. You also need to remember that you can pretty much follow up an A attack (one arm) with a B attack (the other arm) almost instantly. She is a fun character to use when you remember that her B moves are just another arm and can be used in tandem. Shoot one forwards then one behind if you have a person either side of you. Fun games tonight. Quite a few instances of double teaming throughout. Also poor @RedShell got stuck between Mother Brain and my Shulk with Buster. Ouchy 1
Glen-i Posted yesterday at 04:15 AM Posted yesterday at 04:15 AM (edited) Theme week! Bit of a different tact this time. Competitive Smash! About a month ago, the Kagaribi 13 Tournament took place in Japan. It's one of the many Smash Bros. Tournaments that are happening these days, but it did have one of the largest amount of prominent competitive Smash players gathered in one place in quite a while. So, I decided to make a theme around it. I looked at the list of participants in order of highest placing seed, went down the list, and took note of the character each player put down as their main. I kept going until I got 20 different characters. I only needed to get to the 27th seed before I met the 20 quota. The variety of characters in that list is mad impressive! I think every character was there with at least one player! Goes to show how exceptional the balance in Smash Ultimate is. Anyway, so as far as competitive Smash is concerned, these are the best 20 characters. Which is hilarious, because I would only say 5 of these characters are great in comparison to the rest of the roster. But well, we play Smash in a more normal setting, don't we? Not this week though, I'm going almost all in on this. Every stage here is allowed in standard competitive tournaments. At least, that was the plan, but that would only leave us with, like, 7 stages. That's unacceptable, so I expanded it to include stages that are allowed under the "Gentleman Rule" (Stages that are allowed if both players agree to it beforehand) There are no items tonight. Yes, I know, I'm one of the biggest advocates of "Smash isn't Smash without items", but you know, I guess I can stomach it every once in a while... or every twelve years... Now this is important, there's a setting I've activated that is very unothordox here. Format: 3 Stock, 8 Minutes FS Meter: Off Stage Hazards: Off I have never turned Stage Hazards off even once since this game came out, so I have no idea what it actually changes! Also, I said I almost went all in on this, because technically I should make every match 1 V 1, but come on, I wanna avoid people waiting to play as much as I can. Custom Stages from 7:30pm. EDIT: Oh right, before I forget. When I give the heads up for the last match. Pick Fox. Yes, I want to do the overplayed competitive Smash joke. We won't get another chance for a very long time. Might as well. Edited yesterday at 05:36 AM by Glen-i 3
