Falcon_BlizZACK Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Hey! What if the NX was also a 3DS player - and if it was a hybrid, you could play your 3DS game on your TV!? (Another day at work, another day of listening to back to back YouTube speculation)

Falcon_BlizZACK Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 3ds games on a TV. Wouldn't they look horrible? Possibly, but couldn't they fix these things with some upscaling stuff? Its coming off the back of the strong evidence of NX using cartridges.

Hogge Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Possibly, but couldn't they fix these things with some upscaling stuff? Its coming off the back of the strong evidence of NX using cartridges. It depends on the architecture of the console and what demands they put on devs. If, let's say, resolution is set by the 3DS operating system and not hard coded into the games, then 3D games could easily be upscaled. IF the developers were forced to take this eventuality into consideration when they coded their games. Then again, let's not forget that we are talking about the guys who decided to port DS games to the Wii U without altering anything at all.

Nolan Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 upscaling isn't what we want though. That's just taking existing assets and pulling them to a desired resolution, perfectly doable with poor results. Rendering at a higher resolution is what is needed, and probably isn't a hardcoded limit considering emulators often can render at much higher resolution. The problem then is just textures. Textures often won't scale as nicely unless they're already high resolution. There are of course exceptions, and certain art styles definitely allow for it more readily.

killthenet Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 (edited) I hope that's true. I can't see them announcing it around TGS and it needs to be announced before September really to appease investors and industry pundits, so Gamescom would be the perfect place to do it really. I'm sure there will be announcements from other companies there, but nothing like there was at E3 or will be at TGS so Nintendo will have the attention of the worlds media. It would be weird of them to unveil a console in Europe though. Edited July 12, 2016 by killthenet
