Posted January 9, 2006 So, how many of you have to go through the painstaking, agonising process of shelling out all your well earned cash for your personal transport? This month i've paid for road tax, repairs and MOT. Also my cars so old the MOT is totalling to 400 quid . That is how badly I need my car for socalising and work. Posted January 9, 2006 I have to service my car at the end of the month, and its the 40,000 mile service, so its going to cost a bit. Just paid for my insurance, MOT and in November it had its 30,000 mile service, so in the last 3 months the car will have cost me £450 or there abouts. Posted January 9, 2006 Yeah it sucks. I paid £800 for my little fiesta 2 years ago. In november the MOT was due and it failed on 2 tyres and emissions.... i had to buy 2 new tires and a new lambda sensor, all in all cost me about £150-£200... then it started playing up so i bought and changed the plugs and leads, air filter, oil filter and gave it an olil change... thats about another £70 - £100. It's now running fine but just wont start in the cold.... Then of course is the insurance i have to pay which is crap. Is it all really worth it for a 1994 £800 fiesta ? gah! Posted January 9, 2006 i do all my own work on my cars, the only thing the garage does is the MOT and a few of the harder repairs on my car, saves aload of cash! the only thing i have done on a car is take the engine out and replace it! but that day will come! I am just about to give my 1990 Mk4 XR3i Escort a full service which should cost me about at most £30 rather than £100 from a garage! MOT stands for Ministry of Transport, but the test is also informally called MOT because you receive an MOT Certificate when your car is verified safe and working. Due to where I live, my mates and gf live a good half hour to an hour away and the public transport here sucks ass. So basically it's either get a car, or have no life. I doubt you have the same distance issues and if you do the public transport is already infinitely better than where I am because nothing could be worse. Posted January 13, 2006 Cars are incredibly expensive. I am 22 looking for one of the cheapest cars to insure (a Corsa) and the cheapest i can get is about £600. I also looked up 18 year olds in the same situation and their quotes tended to be around £1,200 with a corsa. On top of that ridiculous insurance cost you have tax, repairs, MOT and petrol. It's a hella alot of money, how many teenagers are high paying jobs to pay for all that? I'm thankful my insurance is a bit cheaper at 22, but i wouldnt bother if i didnt feel i had to. I travel to university and it takes me 4 hours a day on public transport, in a car it would take me about 30 or 40 minutes each way (the trains kinda go very far out to turn back in on a different line). So for me it really is to try and get a life back. I also feel for anyone taking lessons, it is a constant drain also and after so many lessons you dont feel like you're learning much. In the end it was probably the nagging feeling of wasting another 90 odd quid that got me through my last test. It is a constant financial drain though. Teenagers get it the worst, especially if they're also paying for uni/college. My first insurance quote was 900, now it's dropped to 620 in a year. BTW, I hate people with epilepsy.
