General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

I was just thinking about buying that for PS4 yesterday. Is it any good?

I've only dabbled with it a bit ( been too busy with other stuff ) but i've enjoyed what i've played so far. It's a bit frantic at times and reminds me of the DBZ games, where you are flying around and smashing buildings up. I haven't a clue who half the characters are, i'm just happy to have Goku and Naruto fighting side by side. :D

PlayStation 4's stunning sales success continues – 25.3m units sold

PlayStation 4 continues to make huge amounts of money for Sony.

Game & Network Services, the part of Sony that includes PlayStation, saw sales increase 12.1 per cent year-on-year to $2.365bn for the first quarter of its financial year. That's the three month period ending 30th June 2015.

Sony said this "significant" increase was due to increases in PlayStation 4 software sales and PS4 peripheral device unit sales, as well as foreign exchange rates landing in favour of the Japanese company.

Operating income increased to $160m, which Sony said was due mainly to PS4 hardware cost reductions as well as the increases in software sales and peripheral sales.

Sony shifted 3m PS4s during the quarter - that's up from 2.7m in the same quarter last year. For context, that's more than double the number of Xbox Ones and Xbox 360s combined that shipped in the equivalent quarter for Microsoft (1.4m).

PS4 is now up to 25.3m sales worldwide since launch - a stunning result for a console still not two years old.

Sony expects to sell half a million more PS4s this financial year than it predicted: 16.5m rather than 16m. Sony sold 14.8m PS4s during the 2014 financial year, so sales of the console are growing.

If Sony's projections are correct, PS4 will hit 38.8m units sold by 31st March 2016.

Sony failed to mention Vita or PlayStation 3 sales for the quarter, suggesting they're both negligible.

As for Sony as a whole, sales were flat due to decreases in smartphone sales and mid-range LCD television sales. But operating income increased to $794m due to boosts in Sony's music division.

Super impressive.

Yo-kai Watch Busters is a spin-off title based on the multiplayer feature they added in Yo-kai Watch 2. It's not a main Yo-kai game

July NPD numbers ( nicked from Gaf so i'm not sure how accurate they are )

PS4 218k

Xbox One 189k

Wii U 46k

The end of the year is gonna be very interesting when it comes to the PS4 vs One. Microsoft have a lot of the bigger hitters coming out ( Gears, Halo, Forza, Tomb Raider ) and usually slash the prices/create good bundles for Black Friday. If this years line up of games and the prices on Black Friday don't help the One to catch up to Sony, then nothing will.

Saying that, Sony will no doubt be marketing the hell out of Star Wars Battlefront, which could possibly be the biggest game coming out at the end of the year.

I'm not sure some of them are system sellers to be honest. Gears being a remaster that's also available on PC and Forza always seemed like a game for people that already owned an Xbox. Don't get me wrong, I expect them to sell very well, just not necessarily move consoles.

Halo probably will but I wonder how much of the stink from the Master Chief Collection has lingered.

Tomb Raider will do well but I expect it would have done even better if MS had handled its "exclusivity" announcement better. A lot of gamers are just happy to wait for the PC or PS4 versions now.

This is one of my biggest issues with MS at the moment. A lot of their titles are getting PC versions. It makes the console seem less special, if that makes sense.

I don't expect Gears and Forza to shift many consoles on their own. I was thinking more that a combo of all these games, as well as 3rd party offerings, could make the One a very attractive offering to people, come the end of the year.

Yeah its possible. I think they might pull ahead of Sony in monthly sales for a couple of months and then it'll go back to usual.

Hopefully Sony will sort out their 1st party offerings soon. 2016 looks better but we also had Andrew House confirming that they do know its too sparse so that should mean they'll do something about it.

I wonder how Fallout coming out the same day as Tomb Raider will impact sales.

It think it's madness releasing Tomb Raider then. It's going against one of the most anticipated titles of the year. Strange strategy.

While agree the 1st part offerings are few and far between ( although I am looking forward to playing the Uncharted Collection, Tearaway and Until Dawn ), the 3rd party titles Sony have aligned themselves with ( likes of CoD and Battlefront ) will help shift consoles at the end of the year.

Why does it feel like there's been so many Forza titles for the One already?

I just had a look and this will be the third Forza game for the Xbox One. That's...overkill, in my opinion. If I had one of the previous games, I'd feel like it has suddenly become devalued. Is it a yearly entry now like FIFA?
