Nintendo dropped some fuzzy math on us.

“Sales of Wii U hardware and software increased by nearly 30 percent and nearly 45 percent, respectively, over the same month last year,” a spokesperson for the publisher said without revealing specific numbers.

Why do they always insist on percentages? It sounds less bad?

Xb1 attachment rate seems very good in the US. PS4 back on top but what's the number?

Less than 200k is disappointing for the market leader in its second January.

Bemused why Nintendo have no releases after a holiday season which they claim saw some momentum gained.

They are limited by development capacity and have no 3rd party games to fill the gaps. It's been the same since the N64 tbh.

The All Formats chart receives a much needed boost with 2K/Take 2’s ‘Evolve’ leading the pack of new debutants and taking the No1 crown.

Xbox One just edges the format share by a mere 1% with fewer than 400 sales between the two Gen 8 versions, while PC accounts for just 3% of boxed units. For Take 2 it’s their first chart topping title that’s not part of the Grand Theft Auto franchise since ‘Bioshock Infinite’ back in March 2013. With the release of new Nintendo 3DS & 3DS XL consoles giving a 57% boost to hardware this week, it’s no surprise that two new 3DS titles debut in the Top 5. ‘The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D’ lands at No2 and is the biggest selling single format title of the week. ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ (+14%) is forced down to third place despite promotions driving strong sales. The second monster hunting title in the chart this week is the aptly named ‘Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate’, which makes its mark at No4. The title’s week 1 sales are an impressive 95% up on predecessor ‘Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate’ as the series starts to gain real traction in the West. ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (-7%) and ‘FIFA 15’ (-1%) are both down 3 places to No5 and No6 respectively.

A colossal sales push driven by retailer promotions pushes Ubisoft’s ‘Far Cry 4’ (+128%) up two places to No7. Familiar face ‘Minecraft: Xbox Edition’ (-13%) is at No8 although ‘Minecraft: PlayStation Edition’ (-9%) slips to No11. Assassin’s Creed: Unity’ (-16%) and ‘Destiny’ (+3%) round off the Top 10 at No9 and No10.

Not dead yet, but certainly getting trounced by the PS4. Surely this isn't coming as a surprise to anyone anymore though?

Wii U has a 2:1 lead on PS4 in Japan(>2,000,000 to <1,000,000). Japan is also DQ's biggest market by a country mile. A DQ game would perform more than adequately well on Wii U both in terms of sales and aesthetics. DQ is a phenom over there, it's unlike nearly every other franchise. It doesn't just sell the game, it shifts hardware by the bucket load. If it's on Wii U it will make the console more successful. Nintendo should be courting S-E to get in on its platform, perhaps leveraging amiibo as an advantage.

Long may the trend continue, for the hope of seeing DQXI on PS4! :heh:

It wasn't like this until too long ago. Japan was the one place where Wii U was beating the PS4. Now it has nothing over it. I don't think Japan has had a major release this year and don't know when the next one is. Kirby hardly counted and bombed. It's worse here in Europe. What and when is the next title? Splatoon? That's in May and am not interested. Mario Party 10 in March? Again not interested and that's not a major title. So much for Nintendo repeatedly saying there'll be no more droughts again and again.

At this point it's laughable every time they say this or something along the lines of keeping momentum going.

PS4 should be pretty solid for the next couple of months, with DQ Heroes arriving at the end of this month and then FF Type-0 with the FFXV demo being released in March. Bloodborne should help push the system as well.

There are no droughts. Just because you don't like certain games doesn't mean there isn't a drought in releases.

lol of course not.

Next you are will be saying the Wii U isn't selling poorly.

That's a stretch. Since the PS4 released the Wii U may of outsold it certain weeks but the difference would of been tiny.

This...is sarcasm right?

The console has one of the most bare schedules of any console ever released by one of the big 3 console manufacturers. The fact that the Wii U has about 30% less titles rated at 75% or above (going by Metacritic) against the PS4 despite coming out a whole year earlier is astonishing.

I can't even think of when the next big title is out. I'm assuming it's X or Splatoon in Spring?

Exactly. There has been many drought periods. Launch period was a joke and we've had others.

I don't see how anyone can claim otherwise. Japan funnily enough has managed to have it worse than us in the West.

Remember looking at the Japanese release schedule after the console launched and it was barren.

You say that, but I had already considered seeing how things were before, and looking at this post from liger05 from last year(for week 10-16 feb) was the picture really all that different?

Ofc don't get me wrong, I agree it's 'dying' just that it's doing so at a rather slow and longed out pace(plus relativity on those small numbers). It really wasn't alive and thriving enough to start with, consider also that any newly released console will take a while to gain momentum - I think WiiU beating PS4(especially given its argued basic release schedule) was hardly surprising.

Regardless my point is - didn't we all already know/expect this? Why still be surprised?

Just because you don't like certain games doesn't mean there isn't a drought in releases.

Why...for once I do believe I might actually agree with you ;)

@Rummy Fair play to you, I can't believe I didn't notice the double negative. Mind you, I wasn't alone although I didn't reply to the comment. @Serebii actually got it right for once. :heh:

Obviously he is talking about big and/or hugely exciting games that are likely to satisfy most people, not a purely 'by numbers' argument. If you count any old game then every console looks to have an amazing release schedule.

Serebii, you always take the literal ground. Look at the sparsity of the meaty games on the console, see how they're spread out. That is what he's arguing.
