Charlie
Muse's latest album, The 2nd Law, was leaked early yesterday morning and in response to this Muse streamed it live last night which is obviously how I heard it. I know we used to have a lot of Muse fans on the boards, I hope they're all still here! What do you think of it?
The Peeps
I listened to the stream and there are a few good ones but some of them kind of drag on. Overall I liked it but there aren't as many stand out songs as there are on the earlier albums.
bob
I've been listening to it all day (streamed off the Guardian website), and i like it a lot. Most of the good songs i'd already heard, but i like some of the new stuff as well, like 'Supremacy' (which sounds like a bond theme) and 'Follow Me'. Panic Station is good too. The strangest ones are the ones where Chris sings. They don't sound like Muse at all (obviously i suppose, since Matt's voice is a big part of Muse), but they are still good. Got tickets for their Birmingham gig in October, so i'm looking forward to it in large amounts.
drahkon
As a Muse fan I have to say I was quite surprised. In a good way. While songs like Explorers and Save Me are a bit too quiet for my taste I still like them. And the rest is just superb. Hearing Chris in two songs is a nice change. Animals has to be one of the greatest songs I've ever heard. Audio Edited September 27, 2012 by drahkon
madeinbeats
Not a fan myself but they're on Jools Holland tomorrow night.
bob
I saw them on Jools, and thought it was a bit rubbish. I liek Madness, but the version they did wasn't as good as the album one. Maybe on the extended show tomorrow they might get to do another song though. The whole album is growing on me a lot. I can't wait for my copy to arrive! Mr-Paul
Really liking the album, apart from Explorers, which just isn't clicking with me, and Save Me, which sounds too much like Elbow, and I hate Elbow. I even am liking Unsustainable now. First time I heard it/saw the video I just laughed.

Save me sounds like Elbow, while Liquid State is a dead ringer for Foo Fighters.
drahkon
Liquid State is a dead ringer for Foo Fighters. Chris sounds like the singer of Pendulum, at least in Liquid State. Pretty cool
S.C.G
Well I got the album yesterday - nice to have the CD a couple of days early - and I got around to giving it a listen today... On the whole The 2nd Law is definitely a very enjoyable album by Muse as they've essentially taken what they're already good at, stripped things back and added in some alteration for good measure. The result is something which definitely doesn't disappoint but that plays largely to expectations providing you didn't set them astronomically high, keeping them instead sensibly grounded. Personally I feel that there are a lot of decent tracks on there including Supremacy which is a decent opener which leads - or should that be 'descends' - nicely into Madness giving you a decent sense of what to expect; Survival actually sounds so much better in context than as a standalone track but as many reviews seem to have mentioned that while there are plenty of quality tracks here as an album it really doesn't flow that well which I think is true to an extent but it doesn't detract too much from the overall enjoyment. The two tracks featuring Christopher Wolstenholme on vocals instead of Matthew Bellamy are suitably different while still retaining that vague overall 'feel' of Muse but ultimately sounding like something else entirely and I'm just going to go ahead and echo previous comments here because Save Me definitely sounds like an Elbow B-side whereas Liquid State has that undeniable feeling of a Foo Fighters track merged with Pendulum style vocals, yet somehow it just about works on the album even if it breaks the flow even more. As for the two-part finale The 2nd Law : Unsustainable/Isolated System well... it pretty much delivered what I expected so I enjoyed it but I can't help but think back to their Black Holes and Revelations era as I'm sure we'd all like another finishing track to rival Knights of Cydonia but alas I've pretty much given up on wishing for it as that was evidently a spectacular one-off. Regardless I'd still recommend The 2nd Law to anyone who's already a fan but to those who aren't it certainly won't convert you but it certainly wouldn't hurt you to give it a listen either. : peace:
bob
My CD has just been dispatched by Amazon, and says it may not arrive until Friday. WTF Amazon? What happened? It doesn't matter that much, i'll just be streaming it until then, but i did want to watch the making of video which is included with my CD.... Ramar
I heard their song Madness for the first time today, it's awful.
Daft
This album is a new low for Muse. After Origin of Symmetry I just fell out of love with them but The 2nd Law is symphonically dire. It sounds like the musical afterbirth of a Hot Chip tribute band. It's impressively bad. I am impressed.
Cube
I'll give it a listen to. I may like it - I prefer BHaR and The Resistance to their older stuff.
