Mokong Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 There was a BluRay for Caprica boxset too...we know how that went Least those french menus weren't hard to navigate
Mokong Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Haha, they uploaded Eps 3 & 4 in the one video... looks like we getting 2 eps a week so...wonder why they didn't just half the number of "eps" and upload 20min videos instead And we got 3 more actors now who were all in BSG playing new characters on B&C.... this is becoming too weird now....what are they all playing long lost great grandparents of their BSG characters or something? We got Ty Olsson who was Captain Aaron Kelly in BSG Jill Teed who was Sgt. Hadrian in BSG Both those we seen in the above BluRay/DVD trailer and now Sebastian Spence who was Lt. Noel 'Narcho' Allison in BSG (Incidently I sent a tweet to Mike Dopud last week who played Specialist Gage in BSG and is playing Lt. Tornvald in B&C asking him bout that....and he replied this morning saying "long lost great grandfather, haha)
jayseven Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Got myself with a weekend without xbox, so why not re-watch BSG? I can't remember much of it so it should be good! EDIT: Insert season one, disc 1, play first episode; "Previously, on..." Well, frak. Guess I'll have to start from here!

jayseven Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 More that I just presumed it was included on the DVD without closely investigating the disc. Not that it would've mattered, because the rental shop doesn't have the "mini-series" available to rent. I remember what happens it's just... well, silly to not have them included. I have no idea if other boxsets do or do not offer the full package, but I do know that it's a stupid think in the first place to not have them included. Just about every series includes their pilot 00 episode on the DVDs. I didn't watch the webisodes, nor caprica, due to the dvd madness for both. No matter the digital progression there's no excuse not to hit up every market available. ... Aside from this grumpy stuff, loving rewatching the eps
Tales Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 I remember I got the miniseries when buying three-season boxset. I want to rewatch the series as well, but I don't have the boxset with me here, only the fourth season, and Netflix over here don't offer it.

Aside from this grumpy stuff, loving rewatching the eps [/quote'] I guess it might be cause the "mini series" is considered just that a "mini series" and not a "pilot" ep. So if you get a boxset that says Season 1 can slightly understand why the mini series isn't in it. But if your boxset is meant to be a complete boxset then that is very poor form to not have the mini series included..... is it missing Razor too? I got the BluRay boxset and it included everything except The Plan as that wasn't released yet. But damn I am really getting the urge to watch this again now, haha. Keep us updated on your progress Jay
jayseven Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Yeah, it's just that I consider the 'mini series' to be an unmissable start to the show Up to ep 7 - 6 Degrees of Separation - I;d forgotten how much comedy Balthar's character produces. It's really great trying to imagine how he is perceived by everyone else. There's an awkward toilet scene with Gaeta which had me snorting. I suppose that is something the show did well to avoid - just having a character or two exclusively for comic relief... Balthar is the closest we have yet the whole 6-in-the-head thing in itself gives the show as a whole a lot more depth and mystery. I can recall some of the stuff from latter seasons with him... can't wait! ... Aaaand the disc is scratched. Damnit! I'll just have to read an episode summary and skip on.

Balthar is the closest we have yet the whole 6-in-the-head thing in itself gives the show as a whole a lot more depth and mystery. I can recall some of the stuff from latter seasons with him... can't wait! Great episode and certainly one of the funniest for the toliet scene you mentioned. I never really thought of him at the shows comic relief character, as you say it didn't really have any. Baltar did come close but he was just on a knife edge between sane and crazy cause of head 6. Plus his character does make some good progress over the course of the show.... he was definately that character I wanted to die SO MUCH, yet at the same time I didn't want him to die cause I know I'd miss him ... Aaaand the disc is scratched. Damnit! I'll just have to read an episode summary and skip on. OMG that sucks, does it just affect that one ep? Do you have any scratch remover kits to try fix it?
jayseven Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Video shop has a rep for their disc qualities. Just that ep on that disc, which is pretty good considering the main DVD player couldn't even recognise it as a DVD (watching it on laptop). I'm not sure I ever saw the Razor stuff, y'know. I'll have to look into that.
bob Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 I was always on Baltars side. He was awesome. Half the time i couldn't even see why he was supposed to be the bad guy.
Cube Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 I was always on Baltars side. He was awesome. Half the time i couldn't even see why he was supposed to be the bad guy. That's because he's not.
Mokong Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 I was always on Baltars side. He was awesome. Half the time i couldn't even see why he was supposed to be the bad guy. Not really a "bad guy" but just far too easily manipulated by bad people leading to him making the wrong choices...like giving Caprica 6 the defence codes (granted if he didn't do that there would be no show), letting Tom Zerek talk him into settling everyone on New Caprica. Giving Gina (was that her name?) a nuke As I said for me he was the one I loved to hate, at parts I wanted hi to get caught out (like in season 1 or at his trial in season 3) but I always knew if he wasn't around the show would have lost one of its best characters. Hell along with me adpoting the use of "frak" in the real world I also now sometimes saying "Gaius frakking Baltar" instead of "Jesus fucking Christ"....sometimes my mind gets confused and I end up saying "Jesus frakking Baltar"
bob Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Well i always assumed that we were supposed to be rooting for President woman the whole time, and hating on Baltar, whereas i loathed the woman, and thought Baltar was awesome. For example when they had that election (it was a while ago i watched it) and Woman just automatically assumes that she is the best candidate without ever stopping to think that she might not be. Anywho, maybe i was watching it wrong, but it always seemed to me like the writers were portraying Baltar as the bad guy, and we were supposed to hate him.
Magnus Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Well For example when they had that election (it was a while ago i watched it) and Woman just automatically assumes that she is the best candidate without ever stopping to think that she might not be. Wouldn't you do the same thing, though? I doubt Mitt Romney ever stopped to think, "you know, I guess I am a bit of a dick, so maybe I shouldn't be President." The biggest problem with Baltar is that he pretty much doomed humanity. It's hard to redeem yourself after something like that!
bob Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Well true, but it never endeared me towards Woman when i was supposed to be rooting for her.
Magnus Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 But her death scene was so touching! Battlestar Galactica prided itself on having morally gray characters, so I think wishing for Woman to get cancer is kind of okay?
jayseven Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 You gotta admit, she does pretty good as a leader considering she was like the vice-vice-vice-vice-vice-vice-vice-vice president when shit went down. She kept her priorities in check and understood the gravity of the situation more than Tom... IforgethisnamebutheplayedApollointheoriginalseries.. Zarek?, who seems to forget that this is the last 50,000 of the species (at the time of the episode), and the rest of the population are crying about water shortages whereas she's keenly aware that this is the remainder of the population... Iunno. I was never struck with a strong sense that any particular character was the bad guy. Except Zarek. But I need to continue re-watching as I can't remember how his story unfolds well.
bob Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Yeah she did well, but i did not like her holier-than-thou attitude. Especially because she was holier than me. There's no need to rub it in my face.
jayseven Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 I think that Adama and Roslin (that's 'Woman' to you) fairly obviously represent the parents, with the knowledge and experience of death itself shaping their forms of responsibility, versus not only the crew's necessation for guidance but also polarised by the childish nature of the cylons, whom are both literally Man's Children but also, for a long period of time, utterly defiant of the idea and purpose of Death itself. Her cancer is teh reason she is able to rise above petty politics, because it gives her the basis for her nurturing instincts to take over, rather than seek self-gain. That's how I've read it, anyway. I forgot that happened so soon, as well! The smoking doctor is such a dick. Stuff like him smoking, like alcohol, like naming dogs dogs... this sort of thing doesn't mesh well with the ending (in my eyes). I can suspend my disbelief and kinda suppose that we're having history kinda translated for us, but while I appreciate and even admire the spiritual sentiment the series ultimately presents, the silliness can't be overlooked. But still, the more I think about the show (and the more I remember), the more I'm stunned by the brilliance. I'm fairly sure I went through the show utterly stoned the first time, so perhaps it's just the vietnam-flashbacks from that experience that's making me gobsmacked..? I don't know.
jayseven Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Man, I'd forgotten how much I hated the Pegasus. I can't remember precisely what happens with this arc, but man I can't wait for it to be over -- not saying the show is crap, I just don't like sitting here seething with ire. Also I've figured out the common denominator for characters that piss me off (on occasion); This is the last known <50,000 of the frakking human race. Unity should be paramount. The Cylons are a real threat so any anti-military stuff from the fleet/politics is just nonsense.
jayseven Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Just starting Resurrection pt 2 and I'm obviously stunned once more by the show. Essentially what i disliked in Pegasus was Cain herself (obv.) and the shitty military guys who are all "lol rape machines is funz." However this is the arc where we properly see Roslin and Adama's closeness, so that helps to cancel out the god(s)less Cain. Back to it! I'm looking forwards to the show from here-on out as I don't remember a great deal, except for eyepatches and air-locks.
