Dante Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 1UP - EA/Grasshopper 360/PS3 Shinji Mikami Suda51 Akira Yamaoka The EA press conference where Goichi "Suda51" Suda and Shinji Mikami are announcing their new project is starting in just a bit, but courtesy of Famitsu magazine, we already know the name of the game. Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Shadow of the DAMNED (their capitalization). It's coming out at some unspecified time from EA, and it's being made for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Here's what we know about it so far: it stars a "demon killer" who rides a motorcycle; he's fighting denizens of the underworld; and the media printed in Famitsu depicts a Resident Evil 4-style perspective as the hero fires away at enemies. Also, it's due out summer 2011. Stick around for a bit, and we'll probably have more to say about this game! Maybe! Until then, though, check out what Mikami's revealed about the game so far in 1UP's exclusive developer profile posted today.
Mundi Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Finally! Been waiting since E3 2008 for them to reveal this game.
david.dakota Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Sounds a little too much like DMC so far, and not the horror title we were promised. I shall wait and see.
Konfucius Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 (edited) There's a trailer on kotaku.com I thought the screenshots looked rather boring, but the trailer looks awesome and has that distinct Suda 51 style to it. Should be awesome; good thing I got an xbox slim a week ago Edited September 15, 2010 by Konfucius
Retro_Link Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 (edited) Video was down on the link above when I checked, here it is: It really does look to be the perfect blend between the two developers styles, you can really see influences of Resi 4/No More Heroes/Killer 7 in the design. Just from that trailer, the main character doesn't really appeal at the moment though... Leon and Travis are instantly likeable/cool. Edited September 15, 2010 by Retro_Link
jayseven Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Looks very 80's B-Movie. Which is awesome.
Choze Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Should be really good. Sick of the hwole 80'd B trash stuff now though i think its been done to death the past two years.
Mundi Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Sounds a little too much like DMC so far, and not the horror title we were promised. I shall wait and see. I was expecting it to be a bit more Killer 7 esque but this looks pretty promising as well.
Mundi Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Shadows of the Damned confirmed for June release Shinji Mikami has taken to the stage of an in-progress EA event to confirm that Shadows of the Damned will be released worldwide on June 7. The game is a 'psychological action thriller' from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and Killer 7 and No More Heroes mastermind Goichi Suda, in development at Grasshopper Games. A new demonstration of the game at today's event showed lead character Garcia on a mission to rescue his girlfriend from demons using dark and light mechanics. "[shadows of the Damned] is our vision of hell, taking gamers on a journey through a demented underworld," said Mikami as he stylishly sipped whiskey on stage. What a dude. "We're (Suda and himself) both big fans of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, and Shadows of the Damned is similar to that Grindhouse style, with our own punk edge," he added. "It's really unique and really quite different to any other action horror games." http://www.computerandvideogames.com/291484/news/shadows-of-the-damned-confirmed-for-june-release/?cid=OTC-RSS&attr=CVG-General-RSS It's getting released pretty soon from announcement, then again this game has been kind of known for like 2 years.
Dante Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) New trailer: It has From Dusk till Dawn, Once Upon a Time in Mexico & Killer 7 vibe to it. Hands-on by VG247 Hands-on by Joystiq. The "darkness" gameplay hook is a strong one, and adds a puzzle element not usually seen in Grasshopper action games. Also unusual for Suda action games: this level of polish. There didn't seem to be any rough edges in the gameplay -- which, even Suda superfans will admit are usually present. This time, the quirks are all intentional. Edited March 9, 2011 by Dante
heroicjanitor Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 When I saw the thread title I thought it was an angry reaction to Ico/Shadow of the Colossus possibly being pushed back to 2012 :p Looks very original, but maybe a bit too much like Resi 4 in the gameplay.
jayseven Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Aw. They played down the b-movie angle. The official trailer seems to put more emphasis on the surreality of the game rather than the malevolant 'terror' that I got from the first trailer. Still looks ace!
James McGeachie Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 From an interview with Mikami it seems there's a prominent "light and dark" gameplay mechanics involving "light safe zones" Basically, the game is Resident Evil 4, meets Grindhouse, meets Dante's Inferno, meets Metroid Prime 2.
Goafer Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I swear I heard Hermes from Futurama's voice in that second trailer.
Dante Posted June 18, 2011 Author Posted June 18, 2011 (edited) Yay! New silent hill music. Edited June 18, 2011 by Dante
