The Lillster Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Does anyone here play Texas Hold'em Poker, on the internet. Either with Play Chips or Real Money? What software do you use and what's the most you've ever won. Tell us your stories. Maybe one of the days, evenings, or nights we could have an N-E Tournament (play chips only). I've been watching it on TV recently. Before I found it quite boring but now I find it rather exciting :p. Do tell...
Cube Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I used to play it with my housemates. We each chucked in £1 and the game usually lasts a whole evening. I also play it on Facebook with my Dad/Uncle. My best moment was probably noticing that someone was bluffing massively and successfully risking it by calling him all-in with a pair or Jacks.
Chris the great Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 i play in real life, and can thoroughly recomend it. playing for no money is fine, its a good time passer, but can get tedious if takewn to seriosuly playing for money is a different kettle of fish. its deadly serious and really exciting. most i won was £14, which took around 5 hours. havent played online, my mate did and lost £100 in a night. he still maintains hes an excelent player.
Beast Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I really want to learn how to play Poker but the rules and how to play it confuses me
The Lillster Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 I really want to learn how to play Poker but the rules and how to play it confuses me I'm not trying to knock you but once you've learned the basics (how to play poker) you just get better with experience. I agree it can be confusing at first. i play in real life, and can thoroughly recomend it. playing for no money is fine, its a good time passer, but can get tedious if takewn to seriosuly playing for money is a different kettle of fish. its deadly serious and really exciting. most i won was £14, which took around 5 hours. havent played online, my mate did and lost £100 in a night. he still maintains hes an excelent player. Well I'm practising a lot at the moment, so when I do have some money to throw away, I'll be prepared to play for real. What I'm going to do is only bet or use about 5% of the total I'm going to use playing poker. Hopefully gradually make that total earnings bigger and bigger.
Chris the great Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I really want to learn how to play Poker but the rules and how to play it confuses me its daunting, but the thing is, once you learn the hands, its no problem, and hands are really just common sense. betting is easy, it helps to have a decent set with a dealer chip, but outher then that, learn though doing!
spirited away Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Watched since I was 14 and still do regularly. Played since I was 16, which was when I arranged the first poker game, as I was really getting into it and wanted to play for money with freinds. We've probably played 60 odd games this year. It's just a great way to get good banter going whilst encouraging freindly competition. I just love the game, and the deceptive depth of it - there's so much to learn to give you the edge. We recently decided to play a 20 man £10 buy-in MTT round our mate's house who organised it. Came second, £50, not bad. I dabbled in online poker earlier this year; I started with $10, built it up to £150 through low stakes cash games, then went on tilt after a particularly bad beat, and drained the whole lot (lesson learnt - will wait till I'm 18 now). So yer it's probably my main hobby and I like to think I'm pretty good at it - It's certainly meant I don't have to worry too much about a weekend job atm . I'm glad someone made this thread!
ipaul Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I really like, though I have yet to play in a real casino yet. Played for a few quid online, nothing serious, just to try it out. I play for virtual money most of the time on the facebook app, I worked my way up from the £5000 or so you start with to £1.2m, which I was quite pleased with Quickly lost it all mind =P
Twozzok Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Playing with play chips, and playing for real money are almost two different games. With play chips there's just no incentive not to call every hand :/
spirited away Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Here's one of my favourite televised hands (pretty ridiculous):
Ramar Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I'm going to be Mr Negative, but I bloody hate how many crap Poker shows are on tv these days. But I've got to admit they make me chuckle at the same time because it's like shitmans WWF, they all try to have some persona and have real bad nicknames.

Depends if your watching something like "PartyPoker Open" that's on alot, with many internet qualifiers and lesser known pros - with mostly insipid personas; or something like "Poker After Dark" which is invitation only, and has a wide range of characters that make it so enjoyable to watch. There's certainly not a lack entertraining personalities. In fact it's one of these reasons I watch these shows.
Platty Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I play weekly with friends for money. Started playing about 4 years ago and love it. Much prefer "real" play instead of on the internet. Internet just doesn't have the same vibe. We usually all stick a fiver or a tenner in a pot and winner takes all. We also have a league system with points for 1st, 2nd and 3rd and for a highest hand in a match. We play up to 30 points and the winner gets a trophy We are poker geeks. Went vegas last year and played. Was so good but very hard and serious.
Shorty Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I love this game, but whenever I play it in a sizable group most people tend to get bored, they make stupid bets just to get the game over with, and when everyone isn't trying there's not much to it. But the guys I work with are into it, so I'm hoping to have a good game with them. We once had a sizable gathering at our (fairly small) flat a couple of years ago. We broke out the poker set and used a makeshift table and had what started off as a pretty decent game. Nobody wanted to put any money down though, and without money there's no motivation to think hard about your choices.

Internet just doesn't have the same vibe. Yep, playing with people sitting in front of you just feels better. I used to play FullTilt (not real money, mind you) quite a lot but I got bored... Had some games the last few weeks. Played with 4-5 mates and it is always lots of fun. 2-4€ entry and there you are: everyone takes it seriously (as much as you can ) and the games can have really amazin moments. I love poker
The Lillster Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 I haven't played with real people for awhile. Although, the last time I played my friends, I won the last game and the game before that. Best Poker moment, well not really an individual moment, but back in the day we used to play Poker in my mates back garden in the Summer, drinking and occasionally smoking some weed. Those were the days...
