The Lillster Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Super Mario Bros. It's that simple! Move, Run, Jump. And it's very fluid and has aged exceptionally well. (Am I doing this right?)
tapedeck Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Top of my head: Pro evo/ISS series used to be liberating. Now it feels dated. Wonderful button mapping though. Mario64 is still sublime. Wii Sports too. Super Mario Bros. Nintendogs Sim City (PC) Sonic 1 (MD) Flower Burnout series Wii Sports Resort F-Zero GX Uncharted 2 NiGHTS Pong Cannon Fodder Worms Probably a ton more I've forgot about.
Falcon_BlizZACK Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Smash Bros on wii... With a gamecube pad.
mcj metroid Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 super mario 64's controls were hardly perfect but I believe super mario sunshine really nailed this.. super mario galaxy no a step back in controls.. Super mario bros deluxe on GBC nailed super mario controls Sonic 3 and knuckles had the best sonic controls and best powerups. Street fighter 2 turbo for 2d fighting games. resident evil 4 for third person action games and yes I mean the gamecube controls. Wii improved it however. Modern warfare 2 for fps but I'm no expert in that area. F- zero GX for racing games
Cube Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Super Mario Sunshine replaced the extremely quick and easy long jump with the stupid hover FLUDD function. That's the complete opposite of progression.
dwarf Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I swear you could still do a long-jump in Sunshine?
Goafer Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Hellish to get used to, but once you do it becomes the most immersive game ever.

That's the complete opposite of progression. the problem with super mario sunshine is its a little bit complicated for it's own good. The long jump is in it and everything from super mario 64 is also bar the punch and kick. but it added fludd who as a character was very lame was awesome to control if you did it right. run and spray in front of you and then diving was awesome. Controls were awesome galaxy simplified it by getting rid of the dive move and more.

Shorty Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Beautiful Katamari (I don't know if the previous titles were the same) had great controls, didn't need anything but the analogue sticks.
Goafer Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 rofl, what is that? A helicopter game? Steel Battalion on the Xbox. You control a massive bastard robot and shoot the crap out of other big bastard robots. There was a button for almost everything, full radio controls (frequency, channel etc), fire extinguisher, windscreen wipers etc. It was epic. Only 2 games supported the controller (well, one and an expansion pack).

Only 2 games supported the controller (well, one and an expansion pack). Heh, if there's 1 thing I wanna try on a X-Box, I think this is it. Windscreen wipers? That does sound epic. Maybe they'll design special controllers as an option for the new Mech Commander game for the hardcore fans? As for an example opf my own.. There's strangly only one not obvious game that I can think of, eventhough I'm quick to notice the level of comfortability of the controls in a game. Can't play Dead Space for now, it appears they fucked up the mouse sensitivity in the PC version for many configurations. I don't believe it was ever patched. Anyway, my example of good controls would be the controls of Delphi in Giants: Citizen Kabuto. The Mecc section I treated as a FPS, but with Delphi I rarely used my bow, so I treated that section as a 3rd person adventure style game. I'm not really fond of 3rd person controls with a keyboard/mouse setup, but I loved soaring from mountain to mountain as Delphi. Great game in general by the way, I installed it on my new computer, and it seems to work perfectly in Windows 7! Edited December 29, 2009 by Sméagol
