Choze Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 The track maker looked so simple! Really looking forward to it. Have ideas already :p
Hero-of-Time Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Did they give a rough release for this at the presser? I can't remember, hope its this year.
Strange Cookie Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Did they give a rough release for this at the presser? I can't remember, hope its this year. 2010, probably somewhere around spring.
flameboy Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 The track maker looked so simple! Really looking forward to it. Have ideas already :p Yeah think this is the greatest thing about this looks so simple and easy to do. It makes it more easy to use and intuitive than LBP, makes it more accessible for the masses and for me will mean I spend far more time with it. I liked their expanding of the Play, Share, Create. They could easily branded this as an LBP product I think but Kudos for them to for creating what seems like another loveable set of characters in their own universe.
Daft Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Yeah, I love LBP but it requires a lot of time to make even a basic level. This looks amazingly simple. I hope there are a load of game modes to go with it too. Point to point races would be nice and not just circuits. After looking at MAG, 256 player race anyone?
ReZourceman Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 I see this has having a longer lasting appeal than LBP....it looks....so good. I'm gonna make mega volcano awesome ice jungle hax tracks.
Choze Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 A multiplayer kart racer would be good for heavy online play. LBP is already great but only 4 players. Just because it has create and share doesnt mean its guaranteed to be of the same standard. But i sure hope it turns out like that.
flameboy Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Good preview over at Eurogamer; http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/e3-modnation-racers-preview Gives sense of the fundamental differences there are in the design choices they've made regarding level creation. One thing I've wondered about about the actual karting is how good will it be? Just LBP did get criticism for not being that tight a platformer, due to the loose controls and the slight problems of moving between the 3 planes. I think however that the overall experience of LBP made up for these slight misgivings some people might have.
ReZourceman Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Word Flamey, its something I'm somewhat hesitant of. From the video....the handling looks a little.....wet, but I guess I can't really comment without having played it. I'd say its very important for them to get some tight controls down. Certainly drifting sounds and looks ace, and so we could be onto a winner.

If its like LBP than the surface you use determines the tractions, slide etc. In the presentation you can even add wateron the track. LBP was very tight in story mode, a testament to the levels designed by Media Molecule.
flameboy Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Not a bad little trailer looked fun enough to me. Nothing new really revealed tbh odd to see them going back to the play, create, share as in the press conference they had changed it to race, create, share.
Daft Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 That does look awesome. I wasn't that excited before but I am now. I thought MK on the Wii was lame (the DS one is the best) so I had my fingers crossed with this. I read a hands on and apparently the handling is pretty good so that's my biggest concern alleviated.
dwarf Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 MKDS was awesome because of the retro feel they gave it, The 3D graphics were just about good enough to make it look awesome in an oldish sort of way. MK Wii is okay, just felt slightly wrong somehow. This I am still hesitant to say whether I like the look of it or not. I probably need to see the amount of options that they give you, because so far they haven't showed us a really outlandish F-Zero course and those sort of things need to be made possible. As I said, with so many levels that will be created and tested, you wonder if the karting will get boring or not. I'm not really too bothered about winning on some rubbish circular circuit that someone's knocked up in five minutes, like almost every other creator. The creation here is only half about making it look cool because you'll probably be concentrating and it'll be hard to notice the efforts of the designer. With LBP you can jump in and out and explore the levels freely, or be made to see everything within the levels and it just works.
Goron_3 Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Sweet! This looks absolutely epic i'm in love Retro are you getting a PS3 then? I defo want one so if you're getting one too we're gonna have to make all the F1 tracks Can you imagine racing up Eau Rouge?
Daft Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 New screens and artwork. I'm looking forward to this. Hopefully it'll be a good replacement for Mario Kart DS since both the Gamecube and Wii Karts are utter crap. Double Dash less so. I'd like to see some customisable weapons, just aesthetically, so I can tell who's shooting them.
dwarf Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Hey I liked Double Dash. Not really rating this though, the characters are obviously trying to appeal in the same way that sackboy did but they aren't as good, or charming.
Daft Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I actually like the characters. They remind me of Kubricks. You're right though, they aren't charming.
Goron_3 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 This game is going to be my baby i just know it. Aslong as the items are balanced unlike some games (MK Wii take notice) I can definately see myself getting a PS3 for this.
Retro_Link Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 I loved Mario Kart Wii! Double Dash was rubbish. This continues to look good! You're right about the characters, though hopefully if there's plenty of customisation options for them it will be better. It's definately one of those games that has me interested in buying a PS3!
Choze Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 http://www.us.playstation.com/modnation/onlinebeta/ Register for the beta. This is the big beta this year imo. Kart racing plus play create share. Hard to beat. EU will probably have separate beta too :p
