Fallout: New Vegas

Recommended Posts

The bugs are a problem sometimes, but not a big enough problem that you should skip the game because of them. The game is just as buggy as Fallout 3, possibly less. I would say that if you enjoyed Fallout 3, you'll enjoy this game just as much, probably more.

The thing I don't understand about this (and Fallout 3) is that why some enemies die really quickly, and others are harder than T-Rex shit.

One example in question was the mission where I

rescued that Sheriff bloke near Vikki and Vance's casino.

The enemies outside were ridiculous, I had to run away from them and let the soldiers nearby take care of them. Originally I thought it was because I was only level 3, but then I got inside and they were pretty easy, even the leader.

Why is this?

I've found I've had a lot more bugs in this but none of them have been as game breaking due to constant saving. Also not yet (fingers crossed) had any stupid bugs that have autosaved and led to me being locked in a room or in an area with characters missing who won't appear which I had twice in 3 and caused me to have to replay large chunks of the game.

ED-E has gone missing, typical really.

Glad I haven't seen that many glitches. Made it to outside of New Vegas but can't afford to get into the centre. How do I get a passport?

There's a mission you can do for the Kings that will allow you to ask The King a favor, one of the options is to get a passport.

Thanks very much.

That's how I did it anyway. If you find another way though, I would recommend doing that instead, as The King's favour can come in handy in a future quest and will probably save you a bit of trouble. From what I understand, there are other ways to get a passport.

The credit check is quite easy to get passed though. If you have a few 10mm SMGs you can sell them for close to 1000 caps each.

ED-E doesn't help at all. He won't attack...a bug? Or did I miss something?

Have you set ED-E to be aggressive? That's what happened with me when I wondered why he wouldn't attack, had to set ED-E to be aggressive as it'd been set to be passive.

Yup, done that. Didn't help.

Played on for an hour and now it seems he's attacking randomly...

Thank goodness Boone's there, he is THE MAN.

He's way too overpowered...at least for now.

So on some podcasts they've said you can have as many companions as you want yet when I try to recruit Cass she won't come and it says you can only have one at a time. Now I don't care because Boone is awesome! However I need her to go somewhere for a quest.....

Well I'm 27 hours in now still not touched the strip! I am at Freeside and such like but just got a ton of things to do there so not left.

I freaking hate Deathclaws, never know where you might find them when going somewhere and when you do come across them you die.

You can have one activate humanoid companion at a time, plus one non-humanoid. You can recruit all the companions, but for them to follow you you'll need an appropriate empty slot.

Currently you can tell your companion to part ways with you whereupon they'll hang about where you first picked them up. Once you've followed the main plot line into the Strip you'll also be able to choose to have your companions meet up at a designated place there, too.

So if lets say I dismissed Boone, he would be in the...

Cocktail lounge of the Lucky 38 rather than in Novac?

I've been enjoying Fallout New Vegas - but the bugs are fucking annoying. 3 times I've lost save data on the autosave and lost about an hour and a half of playtime each time.

There is another patch coming but I think I'll trade it in for black ops at Asda for £4.97 tonight.

I'll pick up New Vegas once it drops in price and hopefully by then with further patches it will be more stable.

(a shame as I was making good progress on hardcore!)

Not unless you specified that when dismissing him. It's a separate dialogue choice, he won't find his own way without instruction.

ok cool fair enough. I'll leave that quest up until I get into the strip...

I currently have enough money to get in and do it that way but also read on here that the king can help you whereas perhaps thats not the best way as could use his favour later....also is the monorail a viable route in?

As I've progressed further into the game, the game has started to freeze more frequently, I also had a weird glitch where myself and NPCs kept jumping up and down after I quick travelled to Sloan. It's breaking the game up and starting to destroy the fun.

If you have 80 Science you can get the security bot to let you in for free.

I saw my mate do it so I know that works.

  • Have 2000 caps on you. You don't lose them, it's just a credit check.
  • Help out the King, after a few quests he'll get you in.
  • Buy a fake passport from Mick & Ralph's; 500 caps, I think.
  • Wear an NCR uniform and simply board the monorail at Camp McCarran. If you aren't in uniform the guards will shoot you as you get close, although they effectively ignore your companion so you don't have to dress them up.

The monorail would be a pain as you can't fast travel to anywhere within the strip, so you'd have to always carry an NCR uniform with you (WG of 25 I think), and you'd have to go all the way through the airport and then out through the terminal at the other end.

Its probably also possible to kill all the Securitrons guarding the strip, but good luck doing that.

There's an easy way around that.

Once you're on the Strip head straight to the Lucky 48. Head up to see House, then after you've spoken to him take the elevator to the cocktail lounge. There's a snow globe hidden on the bar. Take that to the female Securitron on House's level and voila, 2000 caps, credit check passed.

I find it strange than someone wouldn't have enough caps to pass the credit check, to be honest. Money isn't hard to come by in New Vegas.

I forgot about that.

When I first went to the strip, I went very early in the game. I went south from Good Springs, though Primm, and to the NCR outpost, then I went east to camp searchlight, north to Novac and Helios One. Then to Camp Forlorn Hope, the Hoover Dam, through the 188 Trading Outpost, and finally up into Freeside, and the strip. By the time I had gotten to the strip, I still hadn't figured out how to exploit the game's economy, so I was well short of 2000 caps, so I did the King's quest. From what I've been reading on here, it sounds like most people decided to stay away from New Vegas, especially the strip until they had explored most of the Mojave wasteland.
