Guest Jordan Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I'm stuck on mission 4... I really wish this game had the standard "patrol" command.
Hero-of-Time Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 may enjoy it more if you werent playing it on easy? Nah, im not big on RTS games so I just bought it for the back story. I finished it last night, last level was a bit of a slog.
Ganepark32 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I'm the same as you Jordan. Stuck on the 4th mission. No matter what I do I can't finish it. I try and focus on keeping one ship from blowing up and it sort of works but the whole 20 minute evac time is just wrong. I had about 2 mins left at one point before it finally got blown up. Really annoying so I quit campaign and played Skirmish and nailed the covenant in a 1 on 1. They seemed to have an endless supply of wraiths but my hornets and scorpions ripped them apart nicely. Edit: Scratch that. Managed to get through mission 4. Basically all I did was quickly build up two bases with advanced factories and turrets and make an army of hornet and just sit them at one of the ships. Worked perfectly. Nothing hit the ship because of so many hornets.

Serebii Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 It would be much better if there were save checkpoints. Repeating half an hour's work tends to disuade anyone and everyone
Hero-of-Time Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 It would be much better if there were save checkpoints. Repeating half an hour's work tends to disuade anyone and everyone Why don't you just save often? Only problem is you may save at the wrong time like I did on mission 4. I saved just as the last escape ship was getting a beating and then blew up Ive been on this most of the day just getting achievys/skulls/blackboxes and yeah im still playing on easy. Saying that I did manage to beat the AI on Heroic while in a skirmish match in about 3 mins with 7 units
Ganepark32 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 ^ that heroic AI skirmish you did was for the achievement right? Think there's one for that. Anyways, I'll be trying it later on this evening along with winning a skirmish with every leader. edit: How in the hell did you beat the AI on heroic in 3 mins? I've just tried and got just under 11 no matter what I did. Perhaps I should have it so that the arbiter isn't the covenant leader as he's a right pain in the backside to kill with 7 units.

Heres how I did it. Start 1v1 on the first snowmap as the bases are right across from each other. Next pick the Prophet and fight against that scientist wifey and make sure its on deathmatch so you start with massive funds. As soon as the match starts build the temple and build about 7 Elite guards ( click the main building to get them ) As soon as the temple is built the prophet will arrive so take him the 1 guard that is ready and the ghost and head straight ahead and attack their base. Make sure you use the Y button so the elites go invisible and keep calling your other elites to attack. The UNSC will be building units but aslong as you keep attacking and have your elites invisible you should do it. If you just want the achievement for beating it in less than 10mins then feel free to build more elite guards but if you want the 10 or less achievement then just stick with 7.
Ganepark32 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 AH that sounds much easier than trying with the UNSC. Got so close to doing it in 5 minutes with 7 units at one point but then a shit load of hunters appeared and that was me screwed. Even tried developing the base up to the point where I could get scorpions but that only gave me the 10 mins+ time. I'll give that one a try though. You tried it online yet? I haven't but I'm guessing that it's gonna be quite laggy when I do especially if you've made a mini army of 20+ units.
Dan_Dare Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 Re: mission 4: Turns out you can heal the ships...d'oh!
Ganepark32 Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 ^ really? *facepalm* that would have been helpful to know. But still, I did it and I'm not going back to that level. Or mission 6 for that matter. Mission 6 is a right pain in the arse. Basically had to just keep making more soldiers and queuing up their training because after the first 3 Rhinos shoot it just got manic. Had to stay at my base a bit to try and get rid of the masses of units attacking and then when I had a break I sent out the rhinos to complete it. Seemed to go on for ages. And finally got the achievey for beating the AI on heroic. Did it easily. Sent the ghost in to start attacking the UNSC base as a distractor and once the Prophet has appeared I moved him and an elite honor guard to the base and just used the prophet's Y button move to destroy all of the building. Just over 3 minutes which was nice and got 4 achievements from it.
Serebii Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Yeah I found that out On my successful one, I had both ships at full health in the last minute, but somehow one of them still managed to get itself destroyed
Nintenchris Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Haha, love his pronounciation of "chasms". He must be the only guy that pronounces "elephant" that way
ReZourceman Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Lol yeah! So true and funny. Not even accents can excuse just changing vowels for different vowels.
Dan_Dare Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 haha that's genius. what up with the online, Serebii? Co-op worked fine for me but I've not tried aught else.
Serebii Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Its always the same strategy on 2 V 2 One person makes an ass load of hornets The second makes an ass load of Vultures
Ganepark32 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Nearing the end of this now. Just finished mission 12 and those two missions where you're protecting the ship were cool. That mission 12 though was easy as hell. Just make a whole bunch of hawks, make all your turrets anti-air and it's incredibly easy. Still good though. Really enjoying it. And finally got my first gold medal (have come close on loads of occasions but have always ended up getting the silver medal).
Ganepark32 Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Finished this yesterday. I really enjoyed it. The last few missions were a bit meh but I had fun and thought it was good. That cutscene after mission 14 was epic, best one in the game. Really good one and looked superb like all of the cutscenes in the game. Still haven't tried the online but don't think I will as I'm getting ready for RE 5 this friday. Still, for a first go at an RTS using the Halo universe, Ensemble did a good job. There's plenty of scope for a sequel or sequels and perhaps even taking the main Halo trilogy into this style of game but not sure who would do it. I wouldn't begrudge a sequel to this though but would like a bit more in the single player campaign mode, perhaps a covenant one. Not fussed for a flood one as I don't think it'd be overly enjoyable.
spirited away Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Just got this game and liking thus far. Had a few games with a few mates - me and my brother got destroyed by their ODST troops. What's the best way to counteract them because I had a whole team of grizzlies that were struggling?
Dan_Dare Posted March 16, 2009 Author Posted March 16, 2009 aren't hogs the best anti infantry? Spartans too.
