Dante Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 On the Japaneses Metroid site is a image which appears that a side story from the perspective of a space pirate is coming? Experience the history of the Space Pirates.
Retro_Link Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I did post this here [as it not necessarily a Wii game, or game for that matter]: http://n-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22984&page=20
or else you will DIE Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 if it IS a game from the perspective of a space pirate, i will be so pissed.
Emasher Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 if it IS a game from the perspective of a space pirate, i will be so pissed. Why? I for one would like to know more about the Metroid Universe.
or else you will DIE Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 its like playing zelda from the perspective of an Octorok doesnt sound too fun
S.C.G Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I admit that I don't see how they can make playing as a Space Pirate fun... as soon as Samus comes along your gonna get owned by a single super missle, sounds like one short game to me. Cynicism aside though, I'm sure theres plenty of scope to make it into a decent side-story game but atm I just don't see how but I look forward to seeing what comes of this, if anything.
Emasher Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Who says you're fighting in the same battle as samus. Perhaps the game takes place as another battle somewhere else where you fight against space marines or something.
James McGeachie Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I seriously doubt it's a game of any sort. Probably just some little thing to tie in with Metroid Prime 1+2 coming out again in the Play on Wii selection in Japan.
Blue_Ninja0 Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 We don't even know if it's a game, but if it is, there are lot's of space pirate related stuff that can be played trough the story of Metroid. And the game is not called Samus Aran. You don't have to play as her in every single game for it to make sense. The story revolves around the Metroids after all, and the Space Pirates have been in contact with them much more than Samus.
James McGeachie Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Yes but at the same time it doesn't seem overly compelling. I guess it wouldn't be the first time a sci fi series has put you in the role of the opposing alien race to experience their side but the Space Pirates dont seem especially interesting to play as. Now a Chozo game set in the past might be a far more interesting matter! Anyway all I wish for the Metroid series is that a DS sidescroller would come to light. There is so much potential there, so damn much. They'd have higher resolution sprites and background art which could be beautiful and the first time a 2D Metroid could have the potential to have Castlevania quality of detail (I compare the two since they're close in game type). They could potentially use the dual screens for a TON of ideas, including dual screen gameplay (morph ball puzzles scaling over 2 screens, wall jumping up massive vertical chasms from screen to screen, etc), or a more sophisticated map system, or possibly even touch screen puzzle solving (which may sound cumbersome but I think it could have potential. Using a machine to slide around sections to create a morph ball tunnel to reach another area, things like that.). Also other benefits over GBA such as higher quality audio and more face buttons. 2D Metroid seemed like a given on DS from the beginning and of course "Dread" was rumoured for years but for some damn reason never saw the light of day. It pisses me off actually, the storyline still ends with Fusion just now and it set up further progression at the end.
Emasher Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Personally, I'd rather see another side scrolling metroid game on the Wii using the Brawl engine. The samus bits of SSE were pretty darn good.

The castlevania games have worked brilliantly so they should definately consider it. Personally, I'd rather see another side scrolling metroid game on the Wii using the Brawl engine. The samus bits of SSE were pretty darn good. The reason the SSE was criticised so much was that the physics engine was too floaty to make the platforming work well, so i don't think that would be a good idea. Super Metroid would make a good template.
James McGeachie Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Personally, I'd rather see another side scrolling metroid game on the Wii using the Brawl engine. The samus bits of SSE were pretty darn good. I guess that could work as well. If they did though I'd want nunchuk and Wii remote control and the pointer used for things onscreen. Random example would be like beam "welding" moments like in Prime 3 but used for like 2D puzzles and stuff. They could have tons of use for the grapple beam with that as well, like precision aiming with it and throwing enemies around like it was a lasso. I'm sure there's tons of other interesting ways they could use it too. See Lost Winds for an idea of how Wii remote controls can work in an exploration based 2D environment. They could build an entire new 2D Samus item collection based around pointer controllers really. Incorporating scanning into the 2D games would be really easy then too, just point and click on an enemy with a scan visor equipped! It'd be awesome too if they made a powerup for Samus like when you spin an item in mid-air in Lost Winds then throw it forward, except you do it with Samus herself. I really want to see this now. Damnit Nintendo, Wario got the new console sidescroller treatement, give it to Metroid.
Fierce_LiNk Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 its like playing zelda from the perspective of an Octorok doesnt sound too fun What about a Mario game if you were playing in the role of a Goomba, or Bowser. Doesn't sound too shabby at all, to me. And, it means you can explore a different set of ideas, but keeping it within the same universe.
killer kirby Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Experience the history of the Space Pirates. ....I would rather experience a brand new 2D sidescrolling metroid game then know about Space Pirates, screw the space pirates, to me in a metroid game ....they are just target practice :p So...yeah I am against the idea.
Zechs Merquise Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 We don't even know what this is yet. It could be animated short, a comic, a Wiiware title - anything. I highly doubt it's going to be a fully fledged title, as although metroid games sell well, they don;t sell well enough for spin offs of this kind.
D_prOdigy Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 If they would going to do a 2D Metroid, I'd love to see it on the Wario Land: Shake It engine. Would make such a gorgeous game.
david.dakota Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I'm betting its an unlockable movie directed by John Woo.

Super Goomba Adventure: Walk left, walk right, get squished!

Now that you mention it ridley is technically a space pirate.
Retro_Link Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Now that you mention it ridley is technically a space pirate.Yes but then Ganon is a Gerudo and Bowser is a Koopa.
Emasher Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 What I'm saying is a metroid game from the perspective of the space pirates would most likely be from the point of view of an important and strong space pirate, not just some random trooper.

Like Weavel? I always thought he had the most interesting backstory in Hunters.
Retro_Link Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Like Weavel? I always thought he had the most interesting backstory in Hunters.Very much agree! A game based on Weavel could be great; with Ridley showing up as the Space Pirate General and leading you [alongside a battalion of Space Pirates] into battle.
