Deathjam Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 It's a shame FEAR2 is out at the same time (well maybe a week or two earlier) as I would have loved to have played that, but really it doesn't make sense when Killzone 2 will probably blow it and everything else out of the water.
Nolan Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 So, can I get opinions from people who played both R2 and KZ2? My brother-in-law has a PS3. Due to also having a family he has budget and time constraints that make getting both so near each other a dumb idea. He doesn't really know which to get though, he's played R2 at a friends and enjoyed it, and he's checked out KZ2 some and his friends will probably get it too. tl:dr? R2 or KZ2, opinions from players of both plz.
Nolan Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 US mate, R2 is still full price here. I knew KZ2 isn't out, but was just looking for early impressions.
dwarf Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Hey hey I know Killzone will be better overall but if you seriously get into Resistance then it is brilliant. I've really enjoyed my time with it and the later berserks and equipment is worth unlocking. The weapons are varied and interesting (maybe a bit more than K2). However Killzone 2 is going to be an insane online experience, played the beta and the graphics are brilliant and it's more satisfying to kill someone than in Resistance, everything has a real weight and purpose. You'll be happy with either, but get both at some point.

United States. Shopto isn't an option, but thanks anyway.
flameboy Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 As good as Resistance 2 is there is little doubt in my mind that Killzone 2 will be the definitive PS3 shooter. I havn't played it but from the footage and previews knocking about it is plain to see it is on another level.
dwarf Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Yeah, I think this is the benchmark for console shooters and graphics all in one.
LazyBoy Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 To those who've played it, how does the gameplay improve over the original? I played the first and turned it off after a half hour because I thought it was extremely mediocre and uninteresting. I am a big FPS fan but it just bored me. What does the second do differently?
jammy2211 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Not a clue if any of you are interested but the site I work on has a tournament thingy going on with the winners playing the developers. I'll copy and paste the N4G article...mmm: http://www.n4g.com/gaming/NewsCom-263040.aspx?CT=1#Comments
WigglyJoe Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I've watched a lot of Killzone 2 media today and I have to say I'm very impressed. The original was one of the most overhyped pieces of crap that I ever played, so until now I was paying no attention to it; I'm eagerly awaiting the demo to see if it plays as good as it looks.
Nolan Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I played probably 4 hours of the first, and it was only average on all fronts. Gameplay was standard, and quite easy too. Graphics were good at times, yet always in a perpetual fog. Don't remember sounds though, story was....well it was there. I don't think it deserved nearly the hate it received, but it definantly wasn't special in anyway. KZ2....honestly early vids looked the same to me. Now though, it looks to have improved on gameplay alot, and the graphics/sound are obvious. Story....well it has one. Really that's most fpses though.
Daft Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 Level 5 was awesoooommmmeee!!! I take it you're enjoying it? That's a good sign.
Jav_NE Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I take it you're enjoying it? That's a good sign. Yeah, its really good. Feels well weighted like i said before, and its just so much fun. There was a boss of sorts at the end of level 5 that took me a few attempts to beat, hence the awesomeness. I cant really fault it. Taking cover is a bit of a pain i guess as you have to hold L2 the whole time, and some objects you think would work fine as cover dont actually work, but other than that i've had a blast with it.
flameboy Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Glad to read Jav's very positive comments. It doesn't surprise me that it perhaps have cover issues as very few games get it truly spot on. Resistance 2 could have done with a cover system I reckon
dwarf Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 ^ Yeah I saw on IGN, awesome, the game is finished. It seems a lot closer now.
Nolan Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I saw that scene in a vid, yea some people are in that building and you hop on a mounted gun and shoot em up. The columns break apart and whatnot, and there is a explosive substance you shoot and can bring down the whole building.
dwarf Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Btw Choze, I think I remember you saying there weren't destructibles in the game but in the online trailers there are oil drums, pillars that crumble and barred windows that brake open. Or did I think wrong?
Jav_NE Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Just finnished it. The last level was EPIC! Truly frakkin' awesome, and pretty hard to boot. I'll just say this. Theres a trophy for beating the final boss in less than 20 mins. 20 minutes! It tallies up from the moment you meet him i think so if you die and restart at checkpoint the time keeps going though so, in fairness, it doesnt take 20 minutes in one life to kill him, didn't seem that way anyway! Took me 14 mins or so. Anyway. Awesomeness. Hope you all like it too.
MATtheHAT Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Damn this game can't come quick enough! So are we having an online meet up on the day of release? Or are people going to be playing through the single player first?
dwarf Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I don't know, I'll probably do a bit of both. Probably leave it a couple of weeks after release when everyone isn't a complete noob and then get some matches going. ^ I'll add you now.
flameboy Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Damn this game can't come quick enough! So are we having an online meet up on the day of release? Or are people going to be playing through the single player first? I'll be on multiplayer. It's out on a friday right? Have to hope it arrives the day before otherwise I won't get chance to play until Sunday.
tapedeck Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 IT'S OUT THIS FRIDAY?! REALLY?!!? Hmmm...think I read that wrong flamey :p
Daft Posted January 28, 2009 Author Posted January 28, 2009 Eurogamer's review goes up 5PM tomorrow. Although ever since MGS4's 8/10 and after they gave Fable II 10/10 I've lost faith in them. Why even call it Fable if you aren't going to put any effort into a story? Bizarre.
