Haden Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 ..does anyone else miss this as much as I do? This was back when TV was quality.. I miss those days Every saturday morning I'd get up to watch that (and be very jealous as James Richardson sat in front of an amazing dessert every single week ) ..and that intro is amazing Campionato.. Di Calcio.. Italiano! Goooooooooooollllaaaacccccccciiiooooooooooo! The nineties were the BEST! This was on Channel 4 right? Used to love that show with that funny presenter reading newspapers in cafes talking about footie lol
Platty Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 United reflection... Great goal, nervy match. Although we didn't look like scoring another and apart from a few half chances I don't think Porto posed a threat all night.
Fierce_LiNk Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Yeah I saw it, what a belter. I think even if Reina was standing in the perfect position to save it he would've still backed out. You could see he was bricking it when he lined up the second, I was rooting for the big guy to do it again. Just dug this beauty out after watching Alex score another good free kick: He stood 2 yards from the ball yet achieved such power! madness! Haha, I've not really seen much of Alex this season, but I do think he has one hell of an eye for goal. If he stays at Chelsea for another season or two, he could prove to be very, very important for them. Always handy to have goals in your side. ..does anyone else miss this as much as I do? Di Calcio.. Italiano! Goooooooooooollllaaaacccccccciiiooooooooooo! The nineties were the BEST! Oh dude, this was the best programme in the world for me when I was growing up! This was my Saturday Morning, along with Channel 4 cartoons. Actually, channel 4 was so fucking good as a kid, they had everything. The Crystal Maze, Gamesmaster (I think it was called?) The Super Mario Bros. Cartoons, Sharky and George. And yes, James Richardson always had those lovely deserts! Me and my brother used to comment on that. Man, Italian football was so good when I was growing up. I remember being physically scared of playing teams like Juventus, because they were so good. The 90s owned! Deeeel Piieeeroooo!
Dyson Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Gooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaalllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaciooooooooooooo! Classic
Ramar Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 (edited) Quality show along with Transworld Sport, a collective channel 4 duo that quenched my thirst for foreign football. Man, Italian football was so good when I was growing up. I remember being physically scared of playing teams like Juventus, because they were so good. The 90s owned! ! Remember the '97 Champions League final, Juventus vs Borussia Dortmund. Juventus were in the final for a second year in a row, hoping to defend the trophy, but Dortmund beat them 3-1. But like you say back then teams like Juventus were a real European force. Having just done a quick wiki, Juventus were in the final three years running 96/97/98.. But in that run only won it once, in 96. Edited April 17, 2009 by Ramar

I do remember that final, and I remember when Dortmund used to be dynamite. There were so many fantastic teams in Europe at that time. I think if they had beat Manchester United in Turin, they would have probably have beaten Bayern Munich in the final. I've just watched clips of the 99 game in Turin where we were two down, and everyone always rants and raves about Roy Keane's performance...but what about Inzaghi?! He was one of the best strikers in the world. Actually, three of my top five strikers in that time were all playing for Italian teams: Inzaghi, Del Piero (YES) and Batistuta (Wet). I used to dream of these three coming to play for Manchester United, but it never happened. I would give anything to be able to go back in time and live the 90s again.
Ramar Posted April 18, 2009 Author Posted April 18, 2009 Batigol.. What a fantastic player and a wanker at the same time. Do any Gunners agree with ex-gunner Emmanuel petit's criticism of Arsene Wengers transfer policy? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/8003399.stm Some what agree with what he's saying, Wenger made mistakes and he's admitted that. Letting the Flaminator go was a big one, and it took a while for us to get over it. The man with the pony tail and porn flick name can do no wrong in my eyes, use to think the sun shone out of Petit's arse. As for the game today, just hoping for a fair game with no controvesy. Still gutted I'm not going.
Roostophe Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Aagh, goddamn East London cockney wideboy bastards!
dwarf Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Were you at the game Villan? It was and it was a pretty average game, could've gone either way but probably fair in the end (maybe even slightly unfair to West Ham?). Second half was shite. I thought Heskey played quite well but over the game there was no stand-out player which was why I was inevitably surprised when it was given to Garath Barry, who was pretty mediocre. He, along with a few other players, commited the sin where a decision goes against them and they just stop and wait for the referee to recall their choice - even though it isn't going to happen. Sickening especially when they just don't track back when the opposition are breaking. Worst player, regretfully must be said, was John Carew. He was diabolical today. Other than a few flick ons, which weren't effective anyway, just looked like he didn't know how to play the game. Lack of confidence, poor touch, inability to take on players... If he isn't highlighted (or lowlighted) on MotD I'll be concerned with the pundits. I want to like the guy, he seems a fan favourite but I struggle to understand why. Not sure how he managed to forge 9 goals this season.
Roostophe Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 No, I didn't go to the game, so I don't really know how they played, although I was following it on the Villa website. John Carew IS a fan favourite. He's actually been very decent since he came two years ago. I don't think you've seen that much of him, he's much better than the piece of shit we sold to Lyon in exchange for his services.
Daft Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Well that was a pretty boring game tbh. Glad we won obviously.
The-Ironflame Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 (edited) The game was very tentative but Chelsea/ski dominated in midfield we didn't look in control even when we scored and after. Wenger got his tactics and lineup wrong if it worked out we would be praising him but he didn't it was men vs boys today. Fabianski was terribly shaky too but our defending was also poor, some fans were saying Silvestre would be fine but he showed how poor a defender he is and Eboue well I can't say anything positive about him. Most of the goals came from out of nothing. Edited April 18, 2009 by The-Ironflame

I can really only see his decency as luck... he was that bad today. You'll see if you watch MotD, I don't understand... I've said all I need to say already really. Get Agbonlahor back from injury along with everyone else. The defense was cut through very easily, as seen on about the 5th minute where a West ham player ran straight through and put his shot wide against Friedel.
Ramar Posted April 18, 2009 Author Posted April 18, 2009 Wenger got it wrong, Song has been a rock in midfield so he drops him..when we need to keep Lampard, Essien and Ballack quiet. Arshavin dropped to the bench, god only knows why. Fabianksi could be put at fault for the goals, but I won't blame him, he's not been a bad keeper this season. Congratulations to Chelsea, was a fair game. Obviously I'm gutted, it was our best shot at silverware this year.
Molly Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 So Bolton seemed no where near scoring against pompey and we didn't deserve much from the game, but Kanu shoving Jussi over the line and scoring was a bit much *bitter*
Dyson Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I swear the game wasn't televised today. Annoyed, was looking forward to watching it. What was the game like? Glad we won and all but would have liked to have watched it..
Fierce_LiNk Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I swear the game wasn't televised today. Annoyed, was looking forward to watching it. What was the game like? Glad we won and all but would have liked to have watched it.. I thought it was televised...but it was only on Setanta Sports, not BBC or ITV1. That pretty much pissed me off, as I was looking forward to watching the game on my telly. I still managed to follow the game, so that's ok, but I'm pissed off with every game now being on Setanta or Sky. What the fuck is there to watch on ITV1 or BBC1 now?! The game itself was interesting, at times. I was thinking it was going to go into penalties, before Drooogba stole it right at the end. Arsenal were very much in control until they scored, and Chelsea just took a hold of the game then. I'm excited about the game tomorrow, Manchester United vs. Everton. It's going to be a good match, I feel. Although, I am really worried too, as Everton are really bluddy good. But, I think we might just be a bit too much for them to handle. They haven't got Jo playing, who has been in good form for them, and Arteta still isn't back for them, who is one of their most dangerous players, imo. But, they still have the likes of Cahill and Fellaini, who are pretty awesome, and it's also a doubt if Saha will play. They've got a good defence (forget the last game about Villa) and usually they're pretty solid. I don't think it will be a high scoring game, but I'm going to predict a 1-0 for United. It's going to be a goal from midfield, so either Ronaldo or a rare goal from Carrick or Scholes to win it, I feel.
Dyson Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 So we came in to our own after conceding a goal once again? Good god we must stop that.
Fierce_LiNk Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 So we came in to our own after conceding a goal once again? Good god we must stop that. I think so, anyway. Arsenal went one-up, and I think Chelsea were a tiny bit fortunate to get level pretty soon after. Hmm, I think Wenger rested a few players ahead of the game against Liverpool. Probably why Nasri and Arshavin didn't make an appearance sooner.
Dyson Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Righto. I guess all I can say is come on Everton tomorrow But I'm not holding out much hope..
Fierce_LiNk Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 It's going to be a good game, I feel. They're a tough side, and I really respect Everton and David Moyes for what he has done at the club. Moyes is proof that if a manager is given time to build or assemble a squad, then the club will reap the benefits in the longrun. The board haven't thrown him out because he has never got into the top 3, but instead have just let him get on with it. He's got a player or two here and there, and the squad he's built are looking more and more like a top 4 challenging side. There are so many quality players in the team now, the likes of Cahill, Arteta, Fellaini, Neville, Lescott, Osman, Pienaar. Defensively, I think they're very good, and in someone like Jo, they now look more likely to score goals. Add another quality player into that midfield, or a striker who will get them goals, and I think they could even overthrow Arsenal next year and take that number 4 spot.
spirited away Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 (edited) Good game today; we absolutely dominated Newcastle and I can't believe it was only 1-0. Hopefully that will help them get relelgated. Bring on Man United. Edited April 19, 2009 by spirited away
Emerald Emblem Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Well Wolves have secured promotion. What will they bring to the premier league after dominating the Championship?
kyletherobot Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Well Wolves have secured promotion. What will they bring to the premier league after dominating the Championship? My guess is exactly the same as West Brom did this year. You gotta love Big Mick McCarthy but I doubt he's going to set the Premier League on fire next season. The Everton-Utd semi is boring! I'm going for 1-0 Everton, Fellaini will score early in 2nd half of ET.
