Anyone know if there's anything planned? I find it rather frustrating that the Wii has been out in Europe for over 18 months and most second-hand games still seem very expensive :shakehead

But then again maybe I'm just too tight...

Posted

Normally when I go into game their pre owned range is bad and often just as expensive as buying the game new. :/

But I was suprised last week that they actually had decent offers for a change. :yay:

Don't think Nintendo will bring out any players choice games jusst yet.

Posted

Dont think it'll happen anytime soon. There aren't a whole lot of games Nintendo can add to their range.

WiiSports? Pack-in game.

Zelda: TP? Still selling decently.

MP3? Galaxy? Still too new.

MP8? Perhaps. But not till MP9 is released.

ExciteTruck? Would be a good choice. But i dont think it sold well enough to make it as a Player's Choice.

Some third party games usually join this range as well. But the best-selling ones were either not full price titles (RE4:Wii, Carnival Games) or still selling well (RRR, REUC) or they didn't do too well (Elebits). Then, some games are discounted already by the publisher (Red Steel, Sonic, Nights).

I'm quite happy with price most games sell. I remember the Cube days where all games were 60 euro. Nowadays, first party games usually sell for 45 euro. Some good third party games sell for 55. I can live with that. Just don't go compare it with US or JP prices.

I reckon we'll hear about a players choice range later this year around christmas when buying a wii becomes more difficult. Probably costing £25. I'd really like to see a DS range of players choice games, they're so overpriced still!

Posted

Bit off topic but: Excitetruck DESERVES all of the attention it can get. It's certainly one of the best racers I've played in a good few years. It's a shame players choice aint around for Wii/DS but the internet bargain hunting scene is far more mainstream than it used to be. Perhaps players choice ranges aren't needed anymore?

Mind you, independant game stores have always been expensive, even when compared to the supermarkets - so I guess publishers are feeling the squeeze somewhere along the line.

I still think a good idea would be to bring out a GameCube Classics label, and stick all the best ones on it for Wii owners to catch up with. I'd much prefer that than having to buy scruffy copies off eBay of games like Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, Metroid and F-Zero etc. Hell, they could even stick Soul Calibur 2 in there. I say, charge about £17 and that'd be fair.

Really surprised Nintendo haven't done this already.

If Nintendo are planning anything with GC software, it'll be Virtual Console with a HDD.

Those are interesting sales figures! :D I never really knew how Wii games were doing! ^__^

A lot of the good players choice games have not been out for that long though yet. And sell to well for them to drop the price. :)

Do you think so? I've not heard anything of a HDD for the Wii. Plus, can you imagine how long it'll take to download those games? I'd much rather just buy a boxed disc from a shop.

If they did release an HDD, Most people's connection speeds would basically require you to wait overnight for it to download. It wouldn't be so bad if you could use the Wii while it was downloading and just have it download in the background and a popup in the home menu could come up when it was done.

Perhaps some of the more well known games (mario, zelda, metroid) are still up there, but, there are alot of awesome games like NIGHTS and Zack and Wiki that you can pick up for $20 new. For instance, I just bought Zack and Wiki yesterday for $22 cnd. (about £10). I just wish I didn't have exams next week or I'd probably be playing it now. Guess I'd better get back to studying.

How can they reduce the cost of a free game...?

Its not always going to be bundled with the console. I'm betting the bundle will end around e3 in exchange for Wii music and then Wii sports will be available in stores.

I wasn't saying they could, I was just listing the million sellers list, which also shows games that could be included in a Player's Choice range.

But then they'd have to also sell Wii Music separately for people who already own a Wii (about 25 million customers not being able to try a game without buying a new console is a bit daft. Kind of like the Zelda Collector's Edition disc with GameCubes bought late in the lifespan....)

During the GameCube and N64 era, the only thing that saved me from declaring myself bankrupt was the ability to buy second hand games.

You can save yourself a lot of money this way as well. In about 6 months time, you'll be able to pick up so many games for decent prices. Right now, shop around, there's good deals floating about, you just need to be in the right place at the right time to catch them.

I didn't say they wouldn't do that, It just seems like the logical thing they would bundle with it if they bundled something besides Wii Sports.

I actually bought my cube during that promotion. OOT is the only game on it that works that well though, MM is really unstable and freezes alot, and the NES ones beg for a proper D-Pad. So you're better off buying them for the original systems or on the VC.

It just creates problems though. Wii owners will be confused if Nintendo started to sell Wii Sports separately and might end up buying it again if they think it's a sequel. It's not logical, they would have to create two SKUs and sell both games separately as well.

I picked it up second hand a few months after it came out, I was ecstatic to find it in GAME. Bare in mind that prior to the GameCube, I had never experienced a Zelda game, so I didn't know any different to the GC iterations. This was also before the Wii was announced so I didn't know about the Virtual Console.

MM was guffed on the GC collectors disk. It was an AMAZING experience when it first launched though. To have a title that (in many ways) bettered "the best game ever" was pretty special, and wholly unexpected. Great, great times :) It actually offered a challenge too! Take that modern Zelda's!

I really look forward to another WW style Zelda (PH was nice too) even though the ocean was a good idea, Zelda seems suited to land-based shenanigans. A new WW style adventure would probably do good numbers on Wii too - Purely because it "looks" like a 'lite' game. With NEW! weapons (ala DS using stylus) it would be great.

Posted
I think they mentioned that the WW style games would be continued on the handheld consoles only from now on though.

Certainly suits the DS/handheld scene but where there is cash there is opportunity for anything really. Millions of gamers want a "uber" real Zelda on Wii, so I'm probably in a minority of wanting another WW style adventure. Seems like a perfect fit for wii. TP was "uber" realistic...and tbh I never enjoyed it as much as previous iterations in the series. Possibly age though!

I had nothing against WW. Except that it carried the Zelda name. Which meant it was released instead of a realistic Zelda in the style of OOT. TP was too easy, the surroundings weren't as interresting and there were too few secrets. I WANT A BIGGORON SWORD!:yay:

I hope that SOME Zelda game will contain a deeper relationship between Zelda and Link.

Many people wouldn't have bought WW if it wasn't a Zelda game though.
