I don't think it's particularly right or fair, but it IS their network to do with as they please, and it especially applies if it's the same network extended to all public computers.

Having said that, I don't think my uni filters anything on the public comps, though I've never really looked.

Censorship for consenting adults, when the content is within the boundries of law = wrong.

Ponders... It seem we have more freedoms than ever, yet the govenment and other organisations are now are more eager than ever to interfere with them or take them away and people are letting them now more than ever..sad.. Still looks like its down to the newsagents to buy some jazz mags for you mate ;)

This is just one more part of the nanny state (and im being serious there).

Pete, you've utterly missed the point: see my earlier posts- they've been quoted enough and should have ended the thread on page one, frankly. This isn't BT, it's a University.

As it is the Uni, then they can block what they like and no-one can really do anything about it.

But as it is his own connection, well i;m sure that he could win overall, just look on Proxy sites. Should be able to overcome the ISP blocking anytime

For the people suggesting I'm my friend, I don't go fo uni and never would. I'd fucking snap the first time some **** moaned about my controversal opinions. Also, I'm not exactly the type of guy who is ashamed of his sexuality. (Read my post history)

Net from BT? now thats something that is a terrible thing ;) IMO

(Seriously though) Fair enough mate :)

For the people suggesting I'm my friend,

Oops, in my case I just mis-read the post Mikey (sunday morning read, few beers and late night on Saturday) lol.

I don't really think the point is "should the universities be allowed to block porn" because the answer to that is yes. The question is, should they be doing it. If its because its connected to public machines, then I say, just use a local blocking software on those machines, or give the halls a different network. But seriously. Just use a proxy.

*holds up hand* i didn't mis-read  i was just taking the piss intentionally ^__^ my friend looks at porn occasionally too (although while at uni she was too busy earning her degree.....and was having RL sex thankyouverymuch) and she's not ashamed of her personality sexuality either... she's kind of thirsty right now ~ and she says that talking like this makes her feel like mccoy :indeed:

my friend thinks that if your friend is so desperate to look at porn while at uni he should just use a proxy. or go buy some. or, as my friend has said before, go get laid.
