For you who are saying that the first year usually sucks, look at what's up in the future. The good games announced so far are:

Super Smash Bros Brawl

No More Heroes

Soul Calibur Legends

Day of Disaster

Off the top of my head, 'good' Wii games in 2008 thus far:

No More Heroes

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers

Zack and Wiki

Monster Hunter 3

Trauma Center: New Blood

Medal of Honour: Heroes 2

Spore

Mushroom Men

King's Story

Okami

Tales of Symphonia: KoR

Fragile

Red Steel 2

Nights: Jounrey of Dreams

Monster Lab

Battalion Wars 2

Disaster: Day of crisis

Mario Kart

Smash Bros Brawl

Fire Emblem

Animal Crossing

Even then, you've still got to remember that we're still in 2007. Nintendo are hardly going to go off screaming about their 2008 line up when games like Galaxy still need to be sold, why take the media coverage away from their games set for release now?

Perhaps that line up just doesn't mean alot to you, but for me it kicks arse and holds alot of awesome games I want to buy. I reckon WiiWare will end up with some gems too.

a) Did you intentionally choose to disregard what I stated about how the European launch line up consisting of games which had been out for 9 months already in Japan. GameCube's launch over here isn't comparable to the Wii's, it already had 9 months of games from it's Japan launch!

b) If we're going to go down that route, then we should be thankful video games still exsist as last time I checked Nintendo were the ones which picked it up from the gutter Atari left it in.

a) That does not matter. The time it takes to release a game in any territory is roughly the same; REmake was released four months after the Japanese launch and four months after the EU launch. Japan only got Luigi's Mansion, Super Monkey Ball and Wave Race on launch day, so it doesn't really matter at all.

b) If we're going down that route, then we should be thankful video games still exist as developers such as: Capcom, Sega, Squaresoft and Konami (to name a few - as well as Nintendo) who all contributed to the evolution of gaming.

But are Nintendo running the risk of taking gaming back down to the gutter with the Wii? A console that does not promote technological advancement as it is not a great leap forward from its predecessor, what does this mean? Slight to no visual improvements, inferior sound capabilities, games with the same limitations as its predecessors (game overworld/scope etc) etc.

A console dedicated to IR gestures is destined to recieve the bulk of its games to fulfill that gimmick, what does this mean? More party\carnival\arcade games, more gesture-based sports games. I'm foaming at the mouth for games like Brawl, but these sort of 'classical' games are too far and few inbetween.

(Just my opinions here, don't go and give me a Fire Blast).

Of course the greatest irony is that King V is planning on buying PBR. He complains about the 'quality' of games but succumbs to buying one of the worst examples of a cash-in.

Hahaha! thats a good 'un. :D Pokemon is all about the battles for me plus its wifi adding to its longevity, so I buy it. BUT YES! I will still moan about it, I still complain as I have now and many times. But the difference is when a lot of you buy games low on quality/originality and people like me point it out, you stand up to defend it with every online minute you can spend.

And why do you form so many excuses for this company? We and prospective Wii owners need to know what games will nourish our console in the future. How in the world will announcing a game in 2007 due to be released in 2008 shift so much focus away from 07 games as to not purchase them?! Future titles months away don't get advertised on TV or big bilboard posters now do they?

The Wii lacks polish. Pure and simple that is the problem.

It's not just the games, the console itself lacks it too. I've not used a Wii in a while but back when i owned one the UI was a bit of a mess. Friend Codes are a stupid idea too.

Polish is the reason Wii games get low review scores. Polish is the reason people who used to love Nintendo are selling up and moving to Xbox. It's missing from all bar 3 or 4 Wii titles, heck even Twilight Princess severely lacks polish!

It is ultimately what completes a game and a games console. Until the whole "Wii Experience" is cleaned up im not buying

It depends how you want to look at it. I'd say the 360 and PS3 were taking video gaming down the gutter, by dramatically rasing developement costs and putting their console at a price most people couldn't afford, it stopped the whole industry being profitable, made it unethical to make games with experiement styles or gameplay and pretty much priced the little indie developers out of ever hoping to make games. Of course, that depends on how you want to look at it.

It's nothing to do with the Wii Remote, PS2 has all these craptastic games, and so does the DS. It's the simple fact that the Wii has incredibly cheap development costs, so the companies that make these games can afford to put them on the system. They'd sooner port their rubbish onto the PS3 and 360 if it was possible, but alas it is not.

And why do you form so many excuses for this company? We and prospective Wii owners need to know what games will nourish our console in the future. It's a lose-lose situation for Nintendo I guess. If they reveal games now then people will scream that they've delayed them 6 months cause they revealled it too early. Apparently if they take too long they're not letting us get excited or something. Personally I don't want Nintendo to announced an amazing incredible game now if it means I'll be waiting over a year to get my hands on it.

I've allready mentioned several of those games.

I have no idea what Monster Lab, Mushroom men, and Kings Story are.

We have no info on Red Steel 2, and since the first game was quite forgetable, there is no telling what the sequel could be like.

As far as I know, spore WON'T be released on the Wii...

Monster Lab is an RPG with customisable mosters with online battles. King Story is the fabled Project O.

We know Red Steel2 exists. And that ubisoft are planning an online Wii game using the unreal engine (which Red Steel uses). I prefer Red Steel to Halo 3 (and yes, I have Halo 3). Of course, it isn't anywhere near as good as the better 360 shooters.

And Spore has been confirmed for Wii, but it'll probably be rubbish like all his other games.

The Wii has had a lack of exciting games.

Zelda

Mario Galaxy

Metroid

Godfather

Trauma Center

Resident Evil 4

MoH Heroes 2

Batalion Wars

Tomb Raider

Endless Ocean

I mean for gods sake, the third last says it all: a game in the MOH series takes the place as the best FPS on the format!

Why is the Wii the only format that's not getting Call of Duty 4, even the DS is getting it. Why haven't Nintendo announced some new epic game to blow us away? Where's Starfox? I'm tired of all these minigame compilations that come out every 5 minutes.

I'm not saying I've expected tons of great games to be out yet, but where are the future titles? I can't see that many must-buys on the horizon!

I would delete Soul Calibur Legends as that game is utter garbage!!

Surely the logical conclusion is that you enjoy complaining.

Wii lacks polish!?! WTF are you talking about? The Wii machine easily looks the slickets, the front end is way slicker then 360's. And the games!!? Well surely all consoles have some games that lack polish and some that do; maybe Wii has more crap games because it's attracting money grabbing basts, but it's still a bullshit statement. I love debate but please back it up!!!

How does Zelda NOT have polish but say Oblivion does? We could name MANy games that do, you aint making any sense, sounds like you're bashing for bashing sake.

Zelda and Oblivion are completely different in so many ways its like comparing apples and oranges.

As for the Wii? Sure it looks... nice i guess. But the fact is the GUI is incredibly sloppy. Why are all the VC games on seperate screens? Why aren't the channels more intergrated? Why do i have to do a connection test every time i update my Wii? Why is there such insane lag on messaging sending? Why do isn't there a friend code opt out? Why is the SD slot slower than most USB1.1 external card readers at transfering information? Why can't we expand our memory capacity?

There are a hell of alot of issues with the Wii! Its no where near perfect.

Exactly. This is why everyone loves Mario cause it actually has polish. I mean Metroid was a fantastic game but the graphics really needed buffed up. Oh and before people start saying it's good for a Wii game it's not, Halo 2 looks miles better and thats 3 year old. The Wii is pretty much a Gamecube and a Xbox put together so it should be able to produce far better visuals than Halo 2.

That's a good question. There is a 'Gamecube' channel that theoretically holds many games within a single channel, so why not have a single 'VC' channel that holds all your VC games?

Nintendo supposedly spent a lot of time making sure the interface was designed to be accessible by anyone. The only thing I can think is that when you download a VC game, you can immediately see that game appear on the front screen, instead of hidden within another channel.

Not really. Halo 2 pushed the Xbox beyond its technical limits (or beyond Bungie's abilities in optimisation?) and the result was really rather ugly. The pop-in was terrible, and the bump-mapping suffered because of the machine's limited memory. They should have stuck with the original Halo engine, it may not have been as sophisticated but it had a cleaner more visually pleasing look to it.

Posted

The original Halo engine was used for all three games in the series. Just beefed up every time.

The texture pop wasn't due to bad programming, they pushed the XBOX further than it was supposed to go that and the DVD drive and HDD were just too slow to process the data as fast as the cut scenes were shown.

Its the same with Gears of War, Unreal Tournament and anything else used by the Unreal 3 Engine also.

Say your right, that means the Wii should be able to produce Halo 2 without the pop up and glitches...:indeed:

I knew it was used for the second game (when I said they should have stuck with the original Halo engine I meant an un-updated one) but I didn't know it was used for the third - that might account for some of the technical issues Bungie have talked about since the games release. But at least the latter was made for a hardware platform that could do the update justice!

It wasn't just the cutscenes in Halo 2 though, the game had an ugly look overall. It didn't ruin the game for me though, the terrible level design did that. :indeed:

Does it? Since we don't know exactly how the Wii compares with the Xbox (there's been lots of different specs banded about but nothing concrete from Nintendo as far as I'm aware), I don't know if it could. I think memory would still be an issue at the very least.

Posted
Bearing in mind those 3 games are all first/second party games. The only first/second party game out of those 360 ones is Halo 3. Anyway, you've forgotten Oblivion, Gears of War, Guitar Hero 2 and Mass Effect.

And COD2 & a decent COD3 :heh:

I loved TP, I was up like till 6am playing for the first few days but I still felt it had a lot of weak segments and it did not live up to the "greatest Zelda ever" tag that Reggie branded it...I complain as I did not agree that this was the grestest Zelda. Any game can give 'joy' but that does not particularly make it great...

Give me a great game and I won't complain. Who really aired mass criticism towards Galaxy?

Yeah...But the difference is Gears still looks cool when it's all smooth;) And it doesn't seem as random.

I loved Gears Of Wars' graphics when it first came out, but I don't think they've aged that well. I tried the game again when I got an Elite and I was quite disappointed by the graphics. I'm currently playing through the PC version, and that doesn't look all that great. I could say the same for Unreal Tournament 3 as well.

BioShock looked good though. I guess it comes down to what they do with the engine, rather than what the engine can do.

Pull the other one. You'd be the first on here complaining that it has nothing to complain about.

I jest.

I agree with Phee and Jordan in what they said about polish, there was a lot wrong with the UI, compare it to the 360's and it's pretty crap really, VC games should be under one channel, and if they're going to give you all these games, they should've given you more space to save on, or allowed you to expand the space.
