darkjak Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 As it says on the frontpage, the Wii with built in DVD-player has been delayed. Actually, I didn't even know that a DVD-compatible version was ever planned. Personally I think it's too bad, since I want one for my car:P What do y'all think about this?
mcj metroid Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 it's handy but it shoulnt make the wii any more than maybe 50 euros more expensive maybe by the time it comes out there will have beena price droop anyway and the wii dvd player will be the same as a new wii is now. Maybe thats the alternative to a price drop. Peronally i don't care much for this. The wii was obviously supposed to have this to begin with.
... Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 This talk again? The Wii is a games console. You use games consoles to play games. Period. If you want a DVD player, you can buy one for €40 (cheaper than most Wii games) that reads everything, including divx.
Helmsly Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 If it was done as a Wii channel upgrade then sure but I'm not sure whenever the time comes and I can buy a Wii if I'd care if it plays DVD's or not. I'd much rather they release a Wii with more internal memory or a hardrive.
danny Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 personally i cant beleve the wii didnt have this to start with. just a nice to have really. shoudnt cost any more really
Mikey Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Nintendo would have to pay fees if they included it, so they didn't have it to save money for theirselves.
AshMat Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I still think it should've been included, i didn't actually have a DVD player of any sort in my room, and until my 360 i had to use a DVD player, which was a pain, when your tv only has one Scart socket. It's just convenience really.
Davey_T Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I still think it should've been included, i didn't actually have a DVD player of any sort in my room, and until my 360 i had to use a DVD player, which was a pain, when your tv only has one Scart socket. DiemetriX Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 If they make this Wii black I'm gonna buy it, no doubt. I need a Wii in my room.
danny Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Nintendo would have to pay fees if they included it, so they didn't have it to save money for theirselves. Yeah but the fees must be minamal have you seen how cheep dvd players are in tesco etc
Rowan Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I'm not really bothered by the fact that at the moment the Wii cant play DVDs or CDs. Connected to my TV is a fully functioning PS2 which I use to play DVDs. When the DVD Wii is released, how much more would it cost than a normal Wii?
Zechs Merquise Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I think when Nintendo left out DVD playback from the 'Cube it really hurt as back then everyone didn't already have 10 DVD players litering the house. DVD players are so cheap now it's really not an issue.
Falcon_BlizZACK Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Whats the big deal with DVD player inclusion in this time and age? You can view a movie just about anywhere now, I can understand the fuss in the PS2/Gamecube era, but now? A Non issue. I actually went out of my way to buy a Panasonic Q (A gamecube with a DVD player), sure it looked pretty but meh! It was simply a DVD player attached to a Wii and a pretty bog standard one at that. The only reason I can see Nintendo including this for is to make even more profit by adding a non-spectacular DVD player and spiking up the price of the DVD Wii...Oooh, especially if it was a Black one! Nintendo knows how to pwn the naive. Tesco sells a DVD player for £9.99! and its pretty decent.
Fierce_LiNk Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I'm pretty pissed that Nintendo didn't include a VHS player in my Wii.
Tellyn Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I'm pretty pissed that Nintendo didn't include a VHS player in my Wii. Betamax in the PS3 would have sold it for me.
AshMat Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Buy a two way scart splitter then. I did, piece of shit didn't work. Plus it meant eve more wires and shite behind my tv.
Tellyn Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I still think it should've been included, i didn't actually have a DVD player of any sort in my room, and until my 360 i had to use a DVD player, which was a pain, when your tv only has one Scart socket. mcj metroid Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 did ye know that vhs only beat betamax because the porn industry couln't support betamax. don't know the details but that's my understanding.....thats why psp failed basically:)
AshMat Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 did ye know that vhs only beat betamax because the porn industry couln't support betamax. don't know the details but that's my understanding.....thats why psp failed basically:) PSP "failed" because it doesn't support porn?
Ashley Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 did ye know that vhs only beat betamax because the porn industry couln't support betamax. don't know the details but that's my understanding.....thats why psp failed basically:) It was a help, but not the sole reason. And the PSP is filled with porn. Every other one we get traded in has porn on it.

UMD failed because it was kind of overpriced for a low-res DVD.
AshMat Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 What's porn got to do with it? UMD failed because it was kind of overpriced for a low-res DVD. And it's shite and breaks easily. And no-one wants to watch a full length movie on a psp.
Gizmo Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I did, piece of shit didn't work. Plus it meant eve more wires and shite behind my tv. This is why you buy a Samsung. 2 SCARTs, 3 HDMIs, 1 AV, 1 Component, and 1 S-Video. Which means my DVD, Wii, 360, and the AV's for my Vision:M all fit in, along with my DTV aerial, aswell as leaving space for a future High Def player of some sort and a PS3.

Give me the money for one and i'll happily snap it up then.
mcj metroid Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 What's porn got to do with it? . what's love got to do got to do with it! sorry i'll stop that. but ya it was a joke.. the part about psp failing because of porn.
