Zechs Merquise Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 I love the way that people are knocking Nintendo over producing games that are fresh and the public actually want to buy! It's a joke. So Nintendo make Wario Ware, Wii Fit and Brain Training. They also make the deepest and most satisfying games I've ever played. People are complaining that in the consoles first year it hasn't been stacked out with AAA titles that each have 40+ hours of gameplay. Well, I disagree, we've seen Zelda, Metroid and Paper Mario and Mario Galaxy are still to come. We've also seen great efforts like Wii Sports, Mario Strikers, Trauma Centre and many more which a lot of fun. What has the PS3 had in it's first year? Nothing. Resistance was solid but nothing spectacular. Since that ever major game has been either underwhelming or a total flop - Lair and Heavenly Sword anyone? I can't remember seeing much more than GRAW for the first year on the 360. The 360 has now got a very solid back catalogue and has some great games coming up, but it's been out for twice as long as the Wii. And all this rubbish about what constitutes a hardcore game and a casual game is nonsense. It's not a black and white issue. I've been playing games since I was seven years old. I'm still palying now, and I've enjoyed every epic Zelda game, but I also love Wii Sports and other pick up and play titles. Remember how the DS started out, a gimick many cried - but now look, games like Dragon Quest are coming to the DS because of the great development costs and massive user base. The Wii may well attract the same in time, after all, games companies are businesses, and where costs are lower and the market place is bigger the profit is there.
Goron_3 Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Tbh I don't really pay attention to Zechs. Nintendo have released solid games on Wii but they could have been WAY better. I don't think we're going to have the oppotunity to play THE new epic game, like the likes of Bioshock. Wii does have solid games though; it's just a shame that we're only getting a few big games a year. I mean, even if other games had a solid online/co-op mode to get people talking would be good. The only new franchise on Wii that has me truly hyped is Zack & Wiki, and we all know how that's going to sell.
Teppo Holmqvist Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Go on my son. Why you are trolling? I mean seriously. If you don't have anything to say, you don't need to post at all. Those four word sentences are fucking lame. And then you wonder why people are getting negative towards you.... You reap what you sow.
Pit-Jr Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 We've also seen great efforts like Wii Sports, Mario Strikers, Trauma Centre and many more which a lot of fun. What has the PS3 had in it's first year? Nothing. Resistance was solid but nothing spectacular. Since that ever major game has been either underwhelming or a total flop - Lair and Heavenly Sword anyone? Explain how Trauma Center (a DS port) and Mario Strikers (a GC recycle) are great efforts, while the 3 original brand new IPs you listed for the PS3 arent.
Teppo Holmqvist Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 *pic* Well, you have proven that you don't have anything to say, and you are doing this just to troll others. What a fucking shame.
Zechs Merquise Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Explain how Trauma Center (a DS port) and Mario Strikers (a GC recycle) are great efforts, while the 3 original brand new IPs you listed for the PS3 arent. I think that Mario Strikers Charged improved on the original and sharpened it up a lot, it was also Nintendo's first online game and is at least showing that they're trying. Trauma Centre was fun. Just real good fun. Lair is appalling, just a broken game that relies on hype and graphics. Heavenly Sword is nothing special (apart from the graphics). They both may be original IPs, but hey, neither are worthy of the hype they recieved and are both let downs. The difference is, neither Mario Strikers nor Trauma Centre were billed as system selling games which were going to prove the credentials of the Wii.On the other hand both Lair and Heavenly Sword were billed as AAA titles which would pull up PS3 sales and wake people up to the PS3's 'potential'. On the other hand you have both Zelda and Metroid, both of which have lived up to the expectations and are very solid AAA efforts. What I'm saying is, the Wii is getting bashed, but I don't see what for, I think it has a far better catalogue than the PS3, and although the 360 has some great games and a better back catalogue it has been out twice as long. NOTE: I never said anything bad about Resistance, I said it was 'solid but nothing spectacular' and I stand by that. I enjoyed the game, it looked good, was reasonably polished and played well. It was a solid effort, but by no means a game that I would buy a PS3 for, it didn't light up my world and I didn't think it added anything new to FPS games.

At the moment Heavenly Sword has a better average on Game Rankings than Mario Strikers so I think it's a bit too early to be criticizing Heavenly Sword and praising Mario Strikers even though the formers average score is still subject to change over the next few weeks. Evidence: Mario Strikers Heavenly Sword And just to be fair to the PS3 both MotorStorm and WarHawk deserve some merit. Then moving onto the 360 in it's first year it had Oblivion, PGR3, Dead Rising and Dead or Alive 4 and hell compare Perfect Dark Zero to Red Steel and suddenly the game looks a lot better. I'm sure I could go on about other 360 exclusives and upgraded ports from it's first year but I'm sure they would cause a lot of controversy among members who have probably never played those games but presume they're crap anyway.
c0Zm1c Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Dead Rising! Was there actually a game on that disc? Or did I pay £40 for just a slide show of loading screens?
killer kirby Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Good god this site is in total mayhem. Here is all I have to say..... PS3 is good, but they have no games that interest me 360 is great, but like PS3 they have no games that interst me (Some have sparked, but then it gets run down by the games coming out to the Wii and DS) Wii, it has everything all in one (My parents play it, when friends come over it is always the most used, and AAA titles that make me happy that I own a Wii) I just don't see why people just can't wait for 1 more year. I can imagine the Wii having a better line-up then what 360 and PS3 has (Well for me anyway )
jammy2211 Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 At the moment Heavenly Sword has a better average on Game Rankings than Mario Strikers so I think it's a bit too early to be criticizing Heavenly Sword and praising Mario Strikers even though the formers average score is still subject to change over the next few weeks. I think the problem for the PS3 is non of it's games are really anything more then good. Lair is absolutely abysmal, and Heavenly Sword is a good game but nothing which won't be forgotten in a years time. Resistance was a good FPS, but nothing we haven't seen before, and Motorstorm and Warhawk are the same, good games which are not treading into the outstanding catagory. MOst PS3 owners I've spoken to just say how there is no definitive game on the console yet which justifies a £400+ purchase, and it doesn't seem like there will be until 2008. Whereas Wii will have Zelda, Metroid, Mario and Smash Bro's, among other games which may or may not get to that level. I don't know alot about 360's first year to comment, when I was thinking about buying one I remember being pretty underwhelmed by the line up I saw but it's probably no worse then the Wii is thus far.

True. PS3 is a slow starter. I still got one though for oblivion and resistance (love that FPS); well I say I got them for these but really I didn't. I'd have gotten one anyway for all the games it has coming out for it, but a couple of games I wanted to play pushed me to buy it sooner. With the Wii, it's as if these good games coming soon are taking it out of the horrid drought it has been through of good games. Zelda was a great start, but then I've had literally nothing to play since, unlike for my PS3.
jammy2211 Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 HS > Mario Strikers. Based purely on entertainment value. Isn't HS like 7 hours long though? I dunno, I'm going off what my mate told me. It was awesome when I played it but a 7 hour long game just doesn't feel like good value, at any stretch of the imagination. I dunno, I'd just be peed off if a game lasted me about 2 days. I love the graphics though :/.
Dilli Gee Posted September 8, 2007 Author Posted September 8, 2007 The complete disregard of credible gaming in this thread is scary. No wonder the Wii is second rate - you guys seem to enjoy lapping up mediocre titles. And who gives a shit if the Wii is "affordable, value-for-money?" When has that ever become an issue? Nintendo = wallet munchers. There's nothing else to it. I'm going to say another outrageous remark: Nintendo is devaluing gaming.

Dilli Gee Posted September 8, 2007 Author Posted September 8, 2007 Isn't HS like 7 hours long though? I dunno, I'm going off what my mate told me. Yeah, it's pretty short. Smaller development teams = shorter games. But by entertainment value, I meant it's a better experience. The game's meant to be pretty average though.
jammy2211 Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Yeah, it's pretty short. Smaller development teams = shorter games. But by entertainment value, I meant it's a better experience. Fair enough, but Mario Strikers is better value then? As I got about 20 hours out of it :P. It's a pretty stupid comparison anyway. 7 hours though, ouch.
Dilli Gee Posted September 8, 2007 Author Posted September 8, 2007 ZOMG"!M!"MM"!M!£OM£W!OMW£O!M"!O! Ok. I own a Wii too, plus most of the key games on it. That makes my comments even harder to believe... 7 hours though, ouch. I agree with you on that.

What is scary in this thread is the complete double standards. If Nintendo produced tripe like Lair then they would complaints, if they produced a game like Heavenly Sword which lasts a mere 7 hours they would get complaints. Instead this year they produce 4 AAA titles - Mario, Metroid, Zelda and Smash Bros (yeah I know Europe won't see the later until next year) as well as other very good games like Strikers and Wii Sports and we end up with this thread. Lets face facts - what ever Nintendo do they'll be damned, last generation when the GC sold poorly all we heard were cries for Nintendo to be more mainstream, people whinned that all they catered for was hardcore Nintendo fans. Now they have mashed into the mainstream and are beating everyone else hands down people are moaning that they've forgotten the hardcore gamers. Get a life! No publisher in the world presents as many quality titles in a year as Nintendo. The Wii is the best selling console, it's affordable, offers something new and comes with all the great gaming experiences that we've grown up with - what more do people want?

Hellfire Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 I'm going to say another dimwitted remark: Nintendo is devaluing gaming. Fixed. Seriously, why don't you just get the hell out of these boards go to other consoles or to other forums, all you do is bash bash bash, it's not even proper criticizing it's just biased, ridiculous anti-Nintendo-ism since the first moment you stepped in here. Are you here for any other reason than being a troll?
Falcon_BlizZACK Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Ah, after reading through this topic, I feel all like primary school again, when we had countless debates on whether Nintendo or Sega, Mario/Sonic, NES/Master System, SNES/Megadrive was better. The good ol' days, when things were simple... Except... this is no primary school, and we are no longer children. And there is a lot of pointless bashing from fanboys in this topic. True, I'm not 100% happy with Nintendo as a publisher right now (look up my post-E3-rant about that), but this topic is de-evolving in a place where kiddies are throwing mud at each other and shouting: "Me console is more better then yourz!" Fanboys, you're preaching to the believers. The only ones who are going to listen to you, are the ones who already 'on your side'. You're not going to convert 'the others', so simply don't try. Say what you have to say (you're entitled to do so, this being a forum and all), and start to try to live with the possibility there are *gasp* other opinions. Besides, comparing sales is utterly pointless. If sales were an indicator of quality, Beyond Good & Evil would be crap and Cars a masterpiece. 1UP! .....
