Hero-of-Time Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Just seen this on eurogamer and Gonintendo, gotta respect Gonintendos comment at the end. “Microsoft is too dependent upon the third-party community, and Nintendo is too dependent upon first-party. We like to feel that we got a pretty good mix. We have a very different approach to exclusives than some of our competitors. We don’t buy exclusivity. We don’t fund development. We don’t, for lack of a better term, bribe somebody to only do a game on our platform. We earn it by saying you can build a better game on our platform. If you focus your development on our platform, you will ultimately be more successful.†- SCEA boss Jack Tretton I believe with the way things are going this time around, Sony was too dependent on their brand name. - GONINTENDO I do believe that this was the case in the past, especially with the N64 but now I think Nintendo have turned things around and you can see that with the amount of support from the 3rd parties. Sure, Nintendos own titles will be massive hits because alot of people buy a Nintendo to play Nintendo games As for the buying of exclusive games im not too sure about those comments either. What Nintendo have done with the Wii is make a console which requires you to be different, so if developers want to try something new, especially in terms of motion control, then they have to use the Wii. Also the 3rd parties seem to be flocking because they now know the Wii is a hit and if they bring their titles to that console, if they are well made and decent, they will sell well.
Hellfire Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 It is true that Nintendo's success relies on their first party games, but it isn't Nintendo's doing, it's just something that happened overtime, because a lot of 3rd parties didn't support Nintendo a lot and they were afraid of going against Nintendo's awesome games. There's not much to do about that aside from offering more incentives to 3rd party games. While in MS' case, they can have better 1st party games.
Gaijin von Snikbah Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I think they should use some of the newfound wealth to buy exclusivety. So far the third party games on the Wii has not been of the best quality, and it doesnt look like it will improve much compared to the GameCube. But perhaps E3 will tell a different story.
blender Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 nintendo rely too much on their loyal and unquestioning fanboys
mcj metroid Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I cannot understand their comment about microsoft. The xbox made it succesful eventually because of halo a FIRST PARTY release mostly. Most of the best 360 games are first party. It's SONY that depend on the third party. The playstation only made it succesful because of third parties like square , namco and take two... Ha do you think the ps2 would be half as successful without gta? How about we move to ps3 what are it's best series coming? MGS= konami final fantasy= square gta4= rockstar(and also on 360) devil may cry= capcom Do people really care about games like motorstorm and resistence? I suppose the only huhge game they can think of is gran turismo......wow nintendo rely too much on their loyal and unquestioning fanboys Nintendo fanboys are the most annoying for complaining i would say... you hate europe, you will screw up metroid, you will screw up zelda etc etc
theguyfromspark Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 There was that news item recently saying many devs are dropping PS3 support in favour of Wii so maybe things will turn around in the 3rd party software side in the next year or so. I think Sony's problem is that they've spent so much money on getting the PS3 created and manufactured that the execs are trying to cut back the spending everywhere else in the gaming department, hence the job losses and loss of exclusives. If there's no monetary incentive for devs to release a game solely on one platform then why bother? Especially when sales of the console and games are slow anyway. It's going to take a mammoth task by Sony to get the PS3 at the front of the queue if the current trend continues, the first two years for a console pretty much make or break the system.
mike-zim Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 i know which boat i would rather be in and that is nintendos. At least first party you are gauranteed to have games. Third party is more fragile. if you make a mistake and sales drop off you are in danger of losing support.
blender Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 i know which boat i would rather be in and that is nintendos. At least first party you are gauranteed to have games. Third party is more fragile. if you make a mistake and sales drop off you are in danger of losing support. Thats exactly what happened with the gamecube... and thats why nintendo survived. Microsoft has been clever using their money to kill sony's exclusives
Hellfire Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 nintendo rely too much on their loyal and unquestioning fanboys Nintendo fanboys are one of Nintendo's main problem. All they do is whine.
Caris Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 nintendo rely too much on their loyal and unquestioning fanboys Most true post ever.
gaggle64 Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I think Nintendo fans are far too reliant on first party releases. Even with all the great 3rd party support we have sitting on store shelves now like Madden, Heatseeker, Eledees, Sonic and much more, with even more coming, there are still fans complaining about a "drought" because they bought Zelda to go with Wii Sports, and are now sat in the dark waiting for Metroid to come out.
mcj metroid Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Most true post ever. How the hell is that true? as I and Hellfire have said they are the worst for complaining... Hardly unquestioning?
Caris Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 How the hell is that true? as I and Hellfire have said they are the worst for complaining... Hardly unquestioning? Example 1: PS3/Xbox360 owner: Q: Is the Wii good? A: Yeah dude it's awesome i was playing wii bowling all night with my mates, i might get one to go with my 360, i still prefer the 360 but when i have the cash i might pick one up! Nintendo Fanboy: Q: Is the PS3/Xbox360 good? A: Hell no, graphics mean shit i liek gamecube graphics waggle ftw! online play is rubbish fiend codes are fine, Sony and MS loose money on every console LOL i would only ever buy one if they were free they really suck balls, i hope they die. Granted this is over the top but thats the general idea.
mcj metroid Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 1: Most Nintendo fans HATE friend codes and you can go onto any site and see that. 2: I have never heard a ps3 fan say that in fact It's very likely they can't afford a wii after buying a ps3 anyway. 3: ps3: Nintendo is teh kiddy.. remember that one? Still hear it being used granted not as much as the gamecube era but still. 4: There are a lot of wii owners that want a 360... wes nintendo fans don't like the ps3 but can you blame them. There isn't much more I can think of but you made the wii owner out to be an idiot and you say Nintendo depends on these people? The gamecube time it might have been somewhat true that Nnntendo depended on their past fans to get them true but not anymore.
Caris Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 4: There are a lot of wii owners that want a 360... wes nintendo fans don't like the ps3 but can you blame them.. Thanks for just proving my point Oh and if you still don't get me, just read most of comments on this: http://www.n-europe.com/news.php?nid=10731

WHY THE FUCK DOES EVERYONE HATE THE PS3 SO MUCH! what makes the 360 that much better then the ps3
mcj metroid Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 .....It has better games? Sony are losing for a reason and it's not just the price.
Caris Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 WHY THE FUCK DOES EVERYONE HATE THE PS3 SO MUCH! what makes the 360 that much better then the ps3 Hell knows, it's a great machine just lacking games for a few month. All consoles have there up's and downs but i just feel like alot of Nintendo fans are brain washed, some of the stuff they come out with is so "Nintendo can never do anything wrong" like.
mcj metroid Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Thanks for just proving my point Oh and if you still don't get me, just read most of comments on this: http://www.n-europe.com/news.php?nid=10731 But you put the 360 and ps3 as one. NIntendo fans I really don't think have any hate for 360 at all. I meant by can you blame them as sony destroyed nintendo last gen so obviously nintendo fans have been upset by this.
Jamba Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 We earn it by saying you can build a better game on our platform. If you focus your development on our platform, you will ultimately be more successful. Now I find that this phrase alone totally invalidates all of his statements. The PS3 is the hardest and from what I've heard worst supporting dev platform of them all. They had the same problem with the PS2. MS and Nintendo built their systems with the dev in mind and have given lots of dev support (big change for nintendo). In the terms of the Wii, i think Nintendo are getting there with their 3rd party support. We are starting to see some pretty fleshed out games from 3rd parties on the horizon but they wont be there for a while. The 1st party real games will be there first but thats just N for ya. But look at the DS. Huge 3rd party support but still driven by 1st party if we are honest. Thing is that the handheld devs really get there games up to Nintendos level, take Castlevania, however the same effort isnt made for the Wii. I think though that this will change with the Wii's popularity because the extra money and effort used will more likely see return.
mcj metroid Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Hell knows, it's a great machine just lacking games for a few month. All consoles have there up's and downs but i just feel like alot of Nintendo fans are brain washed, some of the stuff they come out with is so "Nintendo can never do anything wrong" like. If it's lacking games now where it has the support of almost all third parties what do you think it will be like now that they are losing them? You know the reason wii was lacking games was maybe of the lack of support. Sony HAD support.
immy Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 .....It has better games? Sony are losing for a reason and it's not just the price. Yeah but it's not like the ps3 doesn't have quality games oblivion ninja gaiden rainbow six resistance moterstorm the darkness super stardust hd virtua tennis 3 call of duty 3 I meant by can you blame them as sony destroyed nintendo last gen so obviously nintendo fans have been upset by this. well these so called fans need to get a life then
mcj metroid Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Oh yes I realise it does and I have played some of these but none of those sell the system. Resistence was relased sometime around gears of war which in all fairness overshadowed it. Then there are some games that are already available on 360 and hell in call of dutys case even wii(Yes i know it sucks but still) Motorstorm is probably the one that's in the best situation but it still hardly sells the ps3 because of the type of game it is.. Ps3 is relying on the blue-ray player and it's own brand name at this point.
McMad Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 oblivion - On 360 too ninja gaiden - On the original Xbox rainbow six -On 360 too resistance moterstorm the darkness - On 360 too super stardust hd - Never heard of this game... virtua tennis 3 - On 360 too call of duty 3 -On 360 too There really is no reason to spend £425 on the PS3 at the moment for 2 fairly good exclusives, the 360 has most of the same games which look exactly the same and it's own better exclusives aswell such as: PGR3 Gears of War Crackdown Dead Rising Lost Planet Viva Pinata (Arguably) Forza 2 Not to say the PS3 isn't going to have amazing exclusives later on but at the moment the 360 is winning in the software department. Then there's Xbox Live which is the best unified online system on consoles. Then there's the fact that the 360 is a lot cheaper than the PS3, no one cares about Blu-Ray at the moment. Face it at the moment the 360 is a far better console, no one hates the PS3 on here I don't think, it's just sucky right now.
AshMat Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 1: mcj needs to grow up and also stop being so fanboyish, that's one of the problems with Nintendo, fanboys, they'll whine to shit about NoE being crap to them, but then when other consoles come into it Nintendo can do no wrong. 2. I don't think Nintendo relies on its 1st party as much as it used to. With the Wii they've done a much better job of making the console and the "getting games onto the console" process much more dev friendly. Where i think MS has a mix, mostly 3rd party games (though a lot do have MS game studios as a helping hand). 3. And one more, this is mainly aimed at mcj again, as being the worst for this, people need to stop pointlessly slating the PS3, it's like the Wii right now, it doesn't ahve many great games yet, right it costs more and hasn't sold fantastically well yet (which i won't blame the lack of games on AT ALL, if it was cheaper, it'd have boomed instantly, and it's a fact) but the Wii hasn't got the killer apps yet, it's got the same half-decent line up. (which is currently the reason i haven't played Wii as much as my 360 yet)
