After another excellent month of sales Peach has been appointed spokeperson, but more on that later. During May in the United States 423,000 Nintendo DS units were sold and an excellent 338,000 Wii units went out the door. The Gameboy Advance however, has crumbled under the "might" of the PS3 selling just under it with 80,500 units. The PS3 came in with a terrible 81,000, while the 360 fared a little better with 155,000 units. On the software side, Pokemon Diamond topped the charts with 331,000 units sold for the month with Pokemon Pearl in a healthy 4th selling 238,000 units. Mario Party 8 fared well at number 2. Be sure to check out Nintendo's excellent delivery of this news (via Peach). Oh, my! All this attention is enough to make a girl blush! As a princess I’m used to being adored, but this is just too much! I know I’m probably sounding like a broken record, but once again my friends at the NPD Group are telling me that Wii and Nintendo DS finished May as the most popular systems in the United States. Thanks to everyone for your wonderful support! Nintendo couldn’t have made it back to the top without you. You’re all Mario-caliber heroes in my book. Now I’m not one to brag, but some of the top games of this month happen to feature someone very pretty and popular – me! I’m talking about the super-fun Mario Party 8 and Super Paper Mario for Wii. Sure, Mario gets top billing, but from where I sit (on my throne), I’d say he’s earned it. Besides, my own game on Nintendo DS, Super Princess Peach, is still selling strong, showing that a girl can do anything she puts her mind to. I think all my Super Princess Peach fans would have just as much fun working to earn their Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree. I’m not in that one, but don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere. Be sure to watch for me in my super-stylish soccer gear in Mario Strikers Charged, which arrives on Wii on July 30. I can’t wait! Kisses! Peach
DCK Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Nice sales (Wii:360 = 2:1, Wii:PS3 = 4:1) but what's up with that horrifying press release?! I'm going to throw up over my keyboard now. Thank you Nintendo.
jammy2211 Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 That press release was horrific, the guys at Nintendo must be pretty dam stoned wherever the hell they are.
Zechs Merquise Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Come on, keep kicking the PS3, i want to see that console die.
ShadowV7 Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Good sales.Surprised Paper Mario dropped out so fast though. Go Wii,this is the stuff I like to see! Selling more in the US than Japan.Though I was expecting the Wii to be a bit better in Japan, but it's early days so will hopefully pick up.
darksnowman Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Haha Princess, nice going! :awesome: She better watch out before Bowser nabs her again!
LazyBoy Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 I'd put money on the fact that if you added European sales to that the Wii has now overtaken the 360.

I'm not too sure about that, http://www.nextgenireland.com/salesfigures.html This shows the Wii still pretty far behind the 360, but a long way in front of the PS3
ShadowV7 Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Yea, cause nextgengames is accurate about those sales figures I mean they've always been true since the site was launched...
Zechs Merquise Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Yea, cause nextgengames is accurate about those sales figures I mean they've always been true since the site was launched... It's a shite website, but I thought they were pretty much accurate? Has anyone got better sales data?
jammy2211 Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 The figures are fine, they're from an official press release and hence accurate.
ShadowV7 Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 The figures are fine, they're from an official press release and hence accurate. When there was a press release from Nintendo around March time or something announcing their world wide sales of the Wii,the nexgenconsoles site was far behind what the press release stated from Nintendo. Those figures are guesstimates and they are not entirely accurate, only good for a sort of indication of how it's doing and to laugh at the PS3,that's it,not to be taken directly.

These figures are directly taken from a press release. They're 100% accurate and nextgenconsoles have not made them themselves, hence why they're being reported by IGN, Gamespot and every other site. nextgenconsoles makes up alot of figures but these are from an official press release by the NPD.

Their figures have never been accurate since it first started. And the fact that it updates every second proves it. If you want a "100%" accurate of sales then count up the sales from the weekly sales in Japan and monthly ones in America and if you can Europe and the rest of the world and do it yourself. They are not "100%" accurate and never will be.Tell me how they update it every second? Do they have sources all over the world so they know when 1 Wii is sold? They can be reported all they want by other places, and if their directly from a press release then why don't they wait for each press release then add them on to the total amount sold? At the end of the day their not as accurate as you claim.

You don't understand what I'm saying. nextgenconsoles did not make these figures, these were made independently by whoever does these things and put up as a press release. On the press site nextgenconsoles then took it, and made an article on it, just like IGN, Gamespot, and everyone else. They didn't make these figures, these are universal figures that Sony, Micrsoft and Nintendo send to whoever compiles these press release. nextgenconsoles simply copy and paste the press release which is compiled by a completely different company. For all intents and purposes these are 100% accurate. They're direct figures from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, and will have stopped updating every second as they're the figures for May. I'll stress again, nextgenconsoles did not play any part in making these figures. They copied them from a press website.

And that the company or whoever tallies up the consoles updates it every few seconds aswell? And that Nintendo tells the company that compiles a list every second saying "Hey me again,3 consoles sold, speak to you soon" *5 seconds pass* "Hey,4 more consoles got sold" I realise I may of blown it out of proportion a bit :awesome: Someone must do this though if the site gets updated like every 3 seconds, hell of a lot of work to do is it not? I don't see all the companies that play a role in this updating their stock and retailers telling them that the sold some more consoles that day. If it was every so often that they updated the site with actual figures then I would believe that they are "100% accurate".

No one could possibly update this kind of info by the second (as nextgenireland claim to). You would expect sudden jumps, eg when the weekly Japanese charts or the monthly US charts were released. To suggest, as they do, that they monitor them by the minute is total crap.

Jesus Christ is hard to understand that now we're in June, the May sales can't keep increasing? I honestly think you're purposfully ignoring what I'm trying to say. These are the official figures that have been sent from Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony. They send them to whoever deals with them, and then the figures are put into a press release which sites like nextgenconsoles copy and paste to make articles like this. Seriously, if you don't get what I've just had to bold to help you understand, I give up. To put things simple, THESE ARE THE OFFICIAL FIGURES SENT MY THE CONSOLE MAKER COMPANIES FOR A MONTH WHICH IS OVER. After reading this lengthy debate, I must agree with you on this one. LazyBoy Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 THESE ARE THE OFFICIAL FIGURES SENT MY THE CONSOLE MAKER COMPANIES FOR A MONTH WHICH IS OVER.! So explain something to me, because i'm not quite understanding this. If these figures nextgenwars are producing are indeed from the companies (Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony) for the month of May, why is it that the figures increase every minute?

If these figures nextgenwars are producing are indeed from the companies (Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony) for the month of May, why is it that the figures increase every minute? *Smacks forehead on table* These specific figures (The one posted in the 1st post) are for the month of May. The figures which every post I've made are about are the figures for the month of May. They can't update, as Month is over. There is no more May, May was last month, May is no longer selling consoles, as May is finished, kapiche? The overall figures are changing, yes, but the figures for May? Nope, they're not changing, cause May was last month. If any site still has them increasing, they're wrong. These are the figures used by EVERY MAJOR VIDEO GAME WEBSITE, because they're the official ones. I'm really not sure what you're saying any more :S.
Fierce_LiNk Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 This is taken from NextGenWars itself. "The console sales numbers you see on the front page of NexGen Wars are estimates, and are not intended to represent exact, down to the minute sales as only Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony know the exact sales figures of their respective consoles. What we do here at NexGen Wars is compile numbers from NPD, Media Create, ChartTrack, as well as various other sources. We then take these numbers and, based on past sales trends, extrapolate the numbers out to give as close to real-time estimates as possible. Again, these are only estimates, but we are confident in our ability to bring you accurate and unbiased sales figures. Not only do we extrapolate the numbers out so they don't lag months behind with the official sales numbers, but we also update the numbers when new official numbers have been released to keep our estimates as accurate as possible." So, there you have it.

I'm done with this thread, as well, people don't see to understand the most simple of processes. I really wish you could understand but well, I'll give up.

Which has some element of truth but is not entirely the case. Again, I quote (and this is taken from the website itself, what further information do you want?): "The console sales numbers you see on the front page of NexGen Wars are estimates, and are not intended to represent exact, down to the minute sales as only Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony know the exact sales figures of their respective consoles." and then "We then take these numbers and, based on past sales trends, extrapolate the numbers out to give as close to real-time estimates as possible." What exactly are you trying to prove?
