motion Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Here's a little fact. Leicester City football club, home match, when full with 15,000 supporters... 600 police officers. Leicester Tigers rugby club, home match, when full with 15,000 supporters... 6 police officers. Says it all.

Thats more to do with the supporters for each and the different type of people, nothing to do with the actual sport.
motion Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Both from Leicester? You'll find the same figures when comparing premiership football to it's equivalent premiership rugby grounds.
Zell Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 There's no barrier to entry to football ie/ the poor guys of brazil, or wigan can play it without huge goal posts or getting muddy and maybe hurt. Rugby is a better game to watch. In theory football should be better as it's all about control and finesse etc, BUT in reality, it's mostly luck. There's far more tactics in rugby. And don't forget our country won the Rugby world cup not so long ago, there was lots of passion for the sport then that has carried over to the 6 nations and to an extent, ruby league and union. lolz. Buckingham sounds posh like berkshire or shropshire. Where's my HD projector?! That is a good point, but all you need for rugby is a ball and a bit of grass really. You wouldn't be able to do conversions/penalties but at least you can still play the core game if you wanted to. If you're comparing to the dull England games, then yes, rugby is better to watch. But I'd rather watch any premiership or football league match (hell I even go to watch conference football) than a rugby match. I find with rugby that there's very little variation in what's going on (especially in League, run/tackle/run/tackle/etc/kick). And there are a lot of tactics in football that no-one really considers, such as do you play a pace attack or have a target man, or do you try to go for the long through balls/crosses or do build up with short passes. Although, not being rugby's biggest follower, I don't really knoow all the tactics that are used. There was passion in rugby when we won something. In football, there's always passion with the international team, win or lose (we haven't won anything for 42 years, but the fans still haven't give up). Oh and Buckingham isn't as posh as it sounds. It's not posh, not rough, sort of middle class and in between.
Guest Stefkov Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Football for me. Always liked it more, I like watching it and playing it, albeit badly. Rugby I just cant watch, the rules I dont understand apart from not being able to pass backwards. However playing it is good fun. I remember in year 8 I was playing for my form's team in the form tournament type thing all yeah 7, 8 and 9 do. I ran through everyone, tbh I think I was one of the best people there, no-one could, or rather would , tackle me. I went to score a try, got too excited and threw the ball down like American Football players do, it went pretty high. Didn't get the try though... Bring in American Football and you gotta whole other story to be told.
chairdriver Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 American Football is like shit personified then dumped on a plate. Don't even get me started...

Trust me, as you admit you're not rugby's biggest follower, the amount of tactics is ten times more in rugby. It was bound to happen... Football, you can only kick the ball around the pitch. Rugby, you kick, punt, pass, run with. Not to mention scrums, lineouts, driving mauls, rucks, penalties, conversions, drop goals, expansive rugby, forward driven rugby, 10 man rugby... Much more action in 80 minutes than watching 22 men kick a ball between themselves for 90.
Daft Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 American Football is like shit personified then dumped on a plate. Don't even get me started... American Football is awesome...or it would be if they didn't stop it every 0.2 seconds for a commercial break....
KKOB Posted June 9, 2007 Author Posted June 9, 2007 Oh and Buckingham isn't as posh as it sounds. It's not posh, not rough, sort of middle class and in between. Didn't want to quote it all. Rugby is more about the decisions for the team and the team tactics, football is all about the glory of an individual. a rugby team seems more real in a way. and the depth to the game is great, there's more variation than, kick, kick, kick, kick, kick, out, throw in, kick, kick, kick, kick, kick etc etc till a person scores. Football should be deeper, but rugby just actually is. It's like comparing C&C with StarCraft lol
Ginger_Chris Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Rugby, the players have alot more respect for each other and especially for the referee. His word is law, because if it wouldn't people would get seriously injured. The problem with football is that its a bumch of jump up kids with far too much money. Rugby players tend to be older and on far smaller wages. The don't get as arrogant or cocky, and the game is better for it.
motion Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 You're probably right Daft. Can't help it, I'm far too passionate about rugby and would seriously suggest anyone who's not been to Twickenham or to a premiership game, to go!
Shino Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 This thread is the more biased shit I ever saw. I won't even try to reason here, because I know you guys won't take it serioulsy. Anway, Football and ... que? Football gets my vote.
conzer16 Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Rugby I just cant watch, the rules I dont understand apart from not being able to pass backwards. However playing it is good fun. You can only pass backwards! You can't pass forwards except for a kick

In (pro) football, players scream abuse in their hissy fit way, using the f-word more than once. In rugby, players call the ref sir and don't argue with his decisions (at least not much )
motion Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 You can only pass backwards! You can't pass forwards except for a kick Oh and the All Blacks seemed to be allowed to pass forwards. grrr
Guest Stefkov Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 You can only pass backwards! You can't pass forwards except for a kick hahahahaha goes to show what I know. I could probably explain holding and maybe the rules of American footbal to you though.
motion Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Fascinating stuff here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_hooliganism Rugby hooliganism page doesn't exist by the way, and if one were to be created, it would be about one sentence long.
conzer16 Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 hahahahaha goes to show what I know. I could probably explain holding and maybe the rules of American footbal to you though. I actually know a lot of the rules of American football :p I enjoy it sometimes! What abut Aussie Rules? That is an amazing game of football!
Zell Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 And you know this how? You don't know. Passion levels are just as high for rugby as they are for football. Only difference is, when a team in rugby loses, their fans don't meet up with opposition fans for a brawl after the game, like in football. THAT is why there is segregation of fans in football and not rugby. The man speaks the truth. Ten times for tactics/skill involved in rugby. And so you obviously do then? Most people would agree with me. If I said cricket fans were as passionate as football fans, I would be lying. People cry when England lose at football, if we lose at cricket we just generally moan. Are you that disillusioned to think that there is a fight after evry football match? Face it motion, you really do not know very much about what goes on at a football match. Please give me reasons why rugby has more tactics than football. I want you to state the tactics of both sports and compare them. Can you do that? Here's a little fact. Leicester City football club, home match, when full with 15,000 supporters... 600 police officers. Leicester Tigers rugby club, home match, when full with 15,000 supporters... 6 police officers. Says it all. Just because they're both from leicester doesn't mean they're the same people. The 15000 who went to the rugby match could have been kids and the 15000 who went to football could have been convicts. My point is football attracts a roudier crowd than rugby, so the extra police is necessary. It's not football's fault there are more police officers.
Nintendo Fan Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 I voted football. Never understood the rules of rugby, come to think of it only played 3 or 4 times and that was years ago back in year 8. -like your new sig Takeo ^^

Never understood the rules of rugby, come to think of it only played 3 or 4 times and that was years ago back in year 8. -like your new sig Takeo ^^ thanks and thats a prime reason why football is more well watched and popular. It's Simple.

People cry when England lose at football, if we lose at cricket we just generally moan. Do I care about cricket? Are you that disillusioned to think that there is a fight after evry football match? Face it motion, you really do not know very much about what goes on at a football match. You can't go a week without hearing about some brawl, death, fight at or after a football match. Please give me reasons why rugby has more tactics than football. I want you to state the tactics of both sports and compare them. Can you do that? I did up there ^^ Just because they're both from leicester doesn't mean they're the same people. My point is football attracts a roudier crowd than rugby, so the extra police is necessary. It's not football's fault there are more police officers. Yes it is. Because at football matches more police presence is REQUIRED, otherwise there really would be brawls, stabbings at EVERY game. And hey if you want to argue that football crowds attract convicts that's fine by me.
