Ashley
I'm sure younger generations are probably still enjoying it as much as we did the 'classic' episodes. They do still churn out some enjoyable episodes. I imagine they'll eventually get Shearer back on board one way or another. We had this a few years ago with most of the cast and they resolved it. The plan is to get new voice actors to replace the characters though, for those wondering.

Having said that losing Shearer does mean a significant chunk of characters are lost so that could spell the end of it. Or it could lead to a brilliant new revamp and become better than it ever was (although our generation would never admit it).

Alt response: I honestly don't think it's a nostalgia thing, I really want to like the new episodes but the show just feels like it's lost its soul at this point. Ashley
The show is 26 years old, of course it's lost its soul. Souls are for the young.

Definitely. The quality of the new episodes isn't as consistent as it was back in 'the day' but there are still some hilarious moments/episodes. And a lot of the 'classic' moments actually came after the point where most people think it went downhill (Maude Flanders dying).
Magnus
Maude Flanders dying was awful, though... The only way Homer could have been more responsible for her death would have been if he'd walked up and pushed her down himself. It also ruined the 'Flanders as Homer's complete opposite' aspect of Flanders, making them focus more and more on his oh-so-annoying quirks. Ashley
Shearer is back on board: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/s195/the-simpsons/news/a656993/excellent-harry-shearer-returns-to-springfield-and-signs-new-the-simpsons-contract.html Was clearly a contract negotiation tactic.
