this technically means the PS3 is the worst selling console. (because the good ol' cube is actually discontinued, as is the xbox but they stopped showing sales for that)

Sony is loosing money, fast

Sony actually announced that their results were the most excellent they had in years, but due to the PS3 alone they made 600 million dollar loss.

Still, they lose about $200 on every console sold, so the console sales aren't really the problem. They just aren't getting out software, because of the low sales and because they keep on hammering that it's an entertainment device instead of a gaming system.

It's incredible really. On how many killer-apps is the Wii doing this?

The machine itself is a killer app. Unlike ps3 where you might think' hm this is the same where are the games........wait they are shit''

thta's a very simple way of putting it i guess

Maybe the thread's title should be changed to 'Gaping at Nintendo's Sales Thread'.

I wonder why so many people prefer Pokemon Diamond to Pearl?

Cooler name?

Way cool on the sales as well. PS3 is plummeting, but don't be jumping for joy yet. They've still got a huge user base to build on - the PS2 outselling the 360 since the 360's launch should tell you that!

I really doubt much of that userbase is going to buy a PS3 anytime soon. No more than about 5-10% of the PS2 owners can be considered a Sony fan, the rest is just some mainstream crowd that goes with the flow - which would mean the PS2 because it's cheap or the Wii at the moment.

The "many, but crap, games" thing seems to also attract an awful lot of people. It's partly why the PS2 succeded, and the Wii seems to the next thing to have that crowd (mainly due to the development costs). That, the price, and the unique controller are probably what's going to make the Wii sell so much - the AAA titles are more like a bonus for us lot (they'll still sell a lot of consoles)

What I meant by that was 'don't expect SONY to pull out of the games market after PS3', as many people seem to be thinking/hoping for. There will almost certainly be a PS4, maybe a PS5 as well. And both of them will have to consistently do as badly as the PS3 is doing now for SONY to give up on games.
