Eddage Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Usually when there is no hype, it ends up being a crappy game. Red steel is an exception i guess. All the non mainstream RE were a bit crappy. I'm hoping for a house of the dead clone Bollocks! Hype gets blown out of proportion and as a result people expect too much and are ultimately left disappointed (Motion2000's take on Twilight Princess for example)! Games that have little hype have the advantage of no expectations, therefore you don't have a mindset that the game will be godly as you go to play it. As a result they're often much better than expected. Excite Truck is a great example of this.

Zell Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I don't think Excite Truck was better than expected at all. Actually I thought it turned out worse, seeing how I was expecting a lot more lifespan and a 4 player mode. And people were thinking that this would be better than Motorstorm. PS But I do agree with Twilight's general point.
gaggle64 Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Excitetruck is one of those early launch period games that demands a bulked out sequel, and I would certainly like to see it. 6-player online, Mii-avatar drivers and straight race and time trial modes would make it truly unmissable.

Hellfire Posted March 21, 2007 Author Posted March 21, 2007 Funny since you prove exactly our points. Your expectations ruin the games for you. They may be crazy fun or awesome, but you always want more.
Zell Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Funny since you prove exactly our points. Your expectations ruin the games for you. They may be crazy fun or awesome, but you always want more. Is it wrong to expect that Excite Truck was going to be "quite good"? And it ended up being "not quite so good". Oh noes! I ruined my experience with my stupidly high expectations! By your logic, we should all expect games to be absolutely turd, so when we play shit games we think "oh wait this game is just 'mediocre' and isn't as bad as I first thought!" Besides you missed the point of discussion regarding Excite Truck, Twilight Link was saying that it wasn't subject to hype and so we enjoyed it more, and I disagreed with him. Make sure you read next time eh sunshine .
Hellfire Posted March 21, 2007 Author Posted March 21, 2007 You should have realistic expectations and see the game for what it's like, you should also try to be impartial in relation to what you thought of the game before buying it. WIshing it had feature a) or b) when it's clearly stated officially that it won't is stupid. I also don't see where I missed the point. And Excitetruck is one of the most fun games I've played. Sure, it doesn't have online, nor 10000 unlockables, but it's pretty damn awesome.

By all acoounts Excite Truck is an unpolished, scruffy and short game that had potential that was never fully realised. As software advances we expect more from games, we want online, we want more gameplay, better graphics and new interesting slants. It's human nature, we want progress.
Darkspine S Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Back on topic: Capcom, announce Okami and Viewtiful Joe 3 on Wii, and you will have made me one hell of a happy gamer. Oh yeah, and a House of the Dead Compilation please

Vaati Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 If only they would release Devil May Cry 4 on Wii, that's what's encouraging me to get a 360 this year and it makes me laugh at PS3 even more because it was supposed to be an exclusive.

Doubt it they'd have to make the engine from ground. They could release DMC 3 with even more extras. And pardon me for deviating from topic, but excitetruck's graphics are great.

I couldn't care less about online, the amount of gameplay is perfect for me as are the graphics. As for the new interesting slants, well that's easily covered by the controls. So because you expected so much you were ultimately left feeling underwhelmed, this is Nintendo, have you not learned by now?

I agree. (though it doesn't need 6 player) More Tracks, more trucks, a multiplayer crush (online:heh:), 4P:grin: I REALLY hope they make a sequel in 2 or 3 years.
gaggle64 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 They may as well go for 6 player online though, it'd be easy enough to do. Doubt it they'd have to make the engine from ground. They could release DMC 3 with even more extras. And pardon me for deviating from topic, but excitetruck's graphics are great. Indeed, they ain't at all shabby. The track maps are surprisingly vast, they should have put a freerange checkpoint race mode in there or something, that would have been great.

DCK Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 No, most gamers want more and more. It's like with any media form, people expect more and more as technology advances. As shown in the fantastic sales of the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Really, it's all just marketing talk. Online should be better, but the Wii's success doesn't depend on it. The PS3 and 360 are selling less than their predecessors.
Dante Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Capcom is holding a Gamers Day event on April 12 to showcase at least part of its 2007 lineup and several Wii projects are expected to be on-hand, including the tentatively named Treasure Island Z. In addition, some reports indicate that the studio may choose this venue to unveil the anticipated Wii survival-horror sequel, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. Capcom's senior director of strategic planning and research, Christian Svensson, hasn't confirmed whether Umbrella Chronicles will be on-hand at the event. But he did reveal that the title will support both 480 progressive-scan and 16:9 widescreen modes whenever it finally ships for Nintendo's new console. Svensson was unsure if the game would run in Dolby Pro Logic II, though. Very little has been confirmed officially about Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, but some details have been pieced together based on reports from Famitsu and comments from Capcom officials. The title is being led by Masachika Kawata, who handled the port of Resident Evil 4 to PlayStation 2. According to Famitsu, the title will consist of two parts, including a more traditional survival horror experience that transpires between Code Veronica X and RE4, and another mode where gamers can play as various characters from the universe and traverse areas from the previous projects. Capcom's American branch has remained reluctant to speak about the game, since details generally come from Japan first or, alternatively, are announced worldwide at official events, such as the company's forthcoming Gamers Day. We've got our fingers crossed for more.

I really hope this is shown at the event. So hopefully there is a main game in there set between Code Veronica and Resi 4. And the remade areas from the past Resi games are this games equivalent mercenaries stages?

I hope what Famitsu says is true.

I just hope that this doesn’t mean the main mode will be a short washed-out affair. Nevertheless, I played the Mercenaries more than the main game on Resi4, I'm sure of it!
