BlueStar Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 People who say no voip are (a) scared pf the unknown, or (b) scared of socialising Haha, yeah I'm terrified of socialising, that's why I don't want to sit on my own in my room with teenagers screaming at me through my ear. It's not unknown to me, I've used it in FPS games since I was in a Quake 2 CTF clan and I still think it's shit, especially public servers. It really adds to the authentic experience of a WW2 shooter to have someone shouting "Fucking camping fag noob" and singing "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard" falsetto while you play.

ZeldaFreak Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Don't know if you guys want to know but games rosters are game specific, according to gamespy they asked nintendo if they wanted a unified list. But nintendo said no.
flameboy Posted March 14, 2007 Author Posted March 14, 2007 Don't know if you guys want to know but games rosters are game specific, according to gamespy they asked nintendo if they wanted a unified list. But nintendo said no. not that I don't believe you but wheres the source? What does that mean?? Friends codes?? In a word...yes...kinda does...
pedrocasilva Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Falafelkid: I would like to know if I am right in assuming that the features mentioned (friend rosters, advanced matchmaking capabilities and comprehensive rankings data) suggest a single, unified online platform for each console, rather than one which is dependent on individual games (as is the case with the DS). GameSpy: GameSpy’s technology does allow for features that could span multiple games. With the Nintendo Wii, however, the multiplayer features are title-specific. Falafelkid: But is that the case for all Wii online titles across the board? GameSpy: Yes, that is the case for Wii titles. Falafelkid: Just one last question to make absolutely sure I have got this right, please. If I have a friend roster in one game, that roster will not be available to me in any other game. I have to build up an entirely new list for each title, right? GameSpy: The answer to your question is yes, for the Wii friend lists are game specific. Hellfire Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Crap Nintendo. I'm not expecting Xbox Live, but still. Bah.
The-chosen-one Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 nintendo already said for pokemon a region / worldwide wifi playability you can use friend codes as an option and also look for ranked oponents in your region ( europe ) and worldwide but that is available on the launch date of pokemon so for now its only friendcodes until it arives in europe
Cube Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 OMG! Now we must spend hours adding codes to play online. Seriously, friend codes don't exactly take long to enter. 10 seconds per code.
christophicus Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 What the hell?? Nintendo are really contradicting themselves here. Teh Wii + DS are all about ease of use, not making it too awkward for casual gamers to use the Wii > They should have made teh online service seamless and intuitive, but instead its going to be a big bulky awkward piece of crap.
Dante Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Nintendo sure do listen to there lawers. Nintendo's Lawers: "Put lots of warning messages in your games" Nintendo: "Okay" Nintendo's Lawers: "Put friends number online system on the DS & Wii, so we wont get sued" Nintendo: "Okay"
DCK Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Holy crap, are Nintendo emo or something? This sounds a lot like they're cutting themselves.
Teppo Holmqvist Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Ouch. Before retard rodeo gets into full swing, I would recommend certain people learn to read. Gamespy didn't say anything at all about friend codes. Just that friend lists are game specific. Same way as they were with PS2.
Teppo Holmqvist Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 What was the PS2 system like? Well, you basically created accounts to each game. Because there wasn't any kind of unified structure, features varied from game to game.
Dante Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 PS2 Online had a unified, subscription-based online service like Xbox Live, online multiplayer on the PS2 is split between publishers and run on third-party servers. However, this comes at a price as any speed connection can connect to the Internet with a PS2, resulting in lag whenever slow connections are present.
Teppo Holmqvist Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 PS2 Online had a unified, subscription-based online service like Xbox Live, online multiplayer on the PS2 is split between publishers and run on third-party servers. If you played certain games (Socom, most EA titles), you were forced to create new, game specific account.

Cube Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 It really is nearly , if not just ,as bad. I don't see how the Friend Code system in any way "bad"...
Teppo Holmqvist Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 It really is nearly , if not just ,as bad. Nah, not really. If you aren't forced to input system codes for each game, and can just add them to your game's list, then there shouldn't be any problems.
flameboy Posted March 14, 2007 Author Posted March 14, 2007 OMG! Now we must spend hours adding codes to play online. Seriously, friend codes don't exactly take long to enter. 10 seconds per code. that isn't my main problem with the friend codes system. It is that it creates a very claustrophobic online experience and if you are not a member of a community such as this, severly limits the level of online play you can experience. It creates a frustrating experience whereby you cannot easily make friends via the online system... The Wii is positioned as a console for everyone, and surely they would do well to apply this business practice to the online experience, and make it as simple as possible, a gamertag system would be so much simpler, because lets face it, if Nintendo can turn non gamers into gamer via the Wii then in turn convert them to online gaming they could have even more of a winner on their hands.
ZeldaFreak Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Nah, not really. If you aren't forced to input system codes for each game, and can just add them to your game's list, then there shouldn't be any problems. Thats the whole point you will have a specific friend code generated for each game and have to add them to each game to play with your friends. Friend codes are really bulky considering with xbox live you add one person and you can choose to play a game with them. Or in certain instances one click and they are added.
