Tailzo Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 This first post will have JRPGs for xbox 360. Hopefully I'll make a list for PS3 too. Blue Dragon (ブルードラゴン, Burū Doragon?) is an RPG for the Xbox 360. It was developed by Artoon based on a design by Final Fantasy series originator Hironobu Sakaguchi, who is also supervising development. Release date(s): JP December 7, 2006 August, 2007 TBA, 2007 Why I want it: It looks colorful and happy! And in addition, it has this old-school-rpg vibe coming from it. I am craving for a Dragon Quest-esque game, so this game can't come soon enough. AMN eyes-on: http://360.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=8251 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cry On This Xbox 360 game is a joint project between Mistwalker and Artoon. The theme of Cry On is tears, both of sadness and joy. Players will take control of main character Sally in this action adventure, working through scenarios that promise an emotional response. Cry On takes place in a world where people live amongst giant sand creatures. Sally is in the company of one of them, a creature named Bogle, and fights alongside it. Although normally tiny, Bogle can transform into a giant beast to fight. He'll do so when Sally is in danger. The game promises to give players the perspective not just of Sally, but of Bogle as well. The game will play out with portions from both characters' perspectives. Cry On features former Final Fantasy mastermind Hironobu Sakaguchi as producer and scenario writer, with composing partner Nobuo Uematsu's music. More info about CRY ON roughly transelated from jeux-france.com by me --- Seems like Cry On had Kimihiko Fujisaka as a character designer. (Think Drakengard) But the character designer was changed to Manabu Kusunoki (Panzer Dragoon). Jeux-france also describes the game as a semi puzzle game too. As you walk around saving people, but you have to use your head to know how to do it. Like lift a boat with Bogle, and transport it to a safer place.. The Bogles seems to transform with certain items, but different items may have different effects. The developers are hoping to make the game feel original, a perfect fit for the xbox 360 pad. "Playing the game and solving the puzzles will hopefully give you a sense of accomplishement" Was also said. They also mention the game will have around 30-40 hours of gameplay. http://www.jeux-france.com/news13814_cry-on-sur-xbox-360-en-details.html Release date(s): TBA Why I want it: Some of the early artwork I saw for the game, reminded me of Shadow of the Colossus. I'm not sure what kind of RPG this will become, but I am keeping an eye on it. ------------------------------------------------------- Culdcept Saga Culdcept Saga is the latest entrant in the popular Magic-meets-Monopoly game franchise that had previous installments on the PlayStation 2, PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Dreamcast. Saga includes online battles via Xbox Live on the Xbox 360 gaming system. Release date(s): 2006/11/22 (JP) 2007/05/01 (NA) Why I want it: Monopoly has always been great fun, and when someone makes a game that lookes like a cross between a JRPG and Monopoly, it is a good sign. I am ashamed to say I never tried any of the previous Culdcept games, but I am hoping that several people here at AMN will give the game a chance and play togheter over Live. AMN impressions: http://360.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=8356 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eternal Sonata Eternal Sonata is an original RPG created by tri-Crescendo, the developers of Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos Origins. The story takes place in a dream world which centers around the piano composer Frédéric Chopin, who died at the age of 39 due to tuberculosis. The plot centers around the concept that three hours prior to his death, Chopin dreamed of a fairy-tale land, in which people with incurable diseases have great magical powers. (...) Release date(s): June 14th 2007 (Japan) Summer 2007 (North America) Summer 2007 (Europe) Why I want it: Baten Kaitos was a nice game, so I got hopes for this one too. The storyline sounds interesting and as always, I'm hungry for some JRPG gameplay. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Infinite Undiscovery Infinite Undiscovery is an Xbox 360 game being developed by tri-Ace and published by Microsoft Game Studios. It is set to contain 10 years worth of ideas from Yoshiharu Gotanda and is being designed "with the thought that the Xbox 360 would be able to realize our plans."[1], and is set in a world that changes in real time, with players choices leading to "unknown discoveries" (explaining the reason behind the name of the game) According to tri-Ace, "RPGs will undergo a true evolution" [2] Release date(s): TBA Why I want it: What they say about the game sounds cool. Now I wonder how the game really will be? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lost Odyssey Lost Odyssey is an RPG currently in development by Mistwalker for the Xbox 360. In Lost Odyssey the player takes control of Kaim, a man who has been sentenced to live for 1,000 years. Gameplay revolves around the many generations of which Kaim is a part of, his loves and losses and conflicts of a world nearing a "mystical industrial revolution". Release date(s): TBA 2007 Why I want it While I love the colorful style of Blue Dragon, I also like RPG games with a style that looks like it was made for "older" JRPG players. Since it's being made by the father of Final Fantasy, I have great hopes for some classic JRPG gameplay. And that's exactly what I want. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Info gathered mostly from wikipedia, AMN and gamespot. This thread was made to spread some JRPG love, and hopefully someone else will fill in the JRPG games I missed. I didn't include Blue Dragon 2, as almost nothing is known about the game, but I have this bugging feeling of forgetting something... ----------------------------------------- Also:' Phantasy Star Universe sequel! Phantasy Star Universe : Ambition of Illuminas Developer: Sonic Team Release dates TBA, except a 2007 TBA in Japan. This is said to be a full sequel. The game comes with all new areas, new weapons, new clothes and a style more similar to the old Phantasy Star Online. (See the screens) It is unknown how this will affect the existing PSU game, if you will be able to transfer characters or not. In this game, you'll have to defeat a group of humans, trying to erase all other races from the universe. A sort of casino will also appear in the game (?). http://www.jeux-france.com/images4_4_19414.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Far East of Eden Ziria - Tales from Distant Jipang For those who do not remember how this title looked like: It may not look very impressive, but I still wanted to play the game. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ZeldaFreak Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Talizo Blue Dragon is August for America and we still don't have a date announced for it.
Tailzo Posted March 8, 2007 Author Posted March 8, 2007 JRPGs! Some nice ones shown although shame those are only 360/PS3 RPGs, how can you still ignore the PS2? This gen isn't dead yet for PS2 anyway! :P *points at Persona 3* Uhm, those shown are only xbox360 JRPGs. I shouldn't ignore the PS2, but I haven't tried to make a list yet. Would you like to help me? If you edited your message, we would have an awesome ps2 RPG list as 2nd post. I'm a little out of touch with what RPG games are coming for ps2 after my ps2 console broke down. I loved Dragon Quest VIII, Suikoden 3 / 5, Shadow Hearts and some other RPG games though. ZeldaFreak: Yeah, I just read that. Thanks. Time to update. Seems the PAL version will aslo come this year. But the Japanese voices will be lost.
Domstercool Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Sure no probs there. I'll go crack out a PS2 list then.
Daft Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Cry On looks awesome! I've never heard of it, any news on release dates? Japanese or otherwise?
ZeldaFreak Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 ZeldaFreak: Yeah, I just read that. Thanks. Time to update. Seems the PAL version wil aslo come this year. But the Japanese voices will be lost. Mate during a 45 minute play session at GDC he confirmed that the their will be both english voices and japanese voices.
Domstercool Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 That's only the USA release from what I know. They are dropping it from the European release because of all the other language they have to cater for.
Daft Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 That's only the USA release from what I know. They are dropping it from the European release because of all the other language they have to cater for. Which game are you talking about? Cry On? Couldn't they make it region free?
ZeldaFreak Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 That's only the USA release from what I know. They are dropping it from the European release because of all the other language they have to cater for. Well fuck them they can have english and japanese sound, and they can fucking make do with subtitles, they release their shit films over here and all we get are subtitles.
Domstercool Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Blue Dragon, the european release won't have Japanese audio.
ZeldaFreak Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 That's only the USA release from what I know. What would you do if their were loads of jrpgs just coming to the us on wii - would you buy another console dom. Blue Dragon, the european release won't have Japanese audio. Well I still why do they need audio. They can have subtiltes.
Domstercool Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I can only hope to god that there is some sort of Region Free disc that comes out if that happened. I'd bloody hate missing out on some Wii RPGs.

Domstercool Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 New PS2 SRPG announced! Soul Nomad & The World Eaters Screenshots: http://uk.media.ps2.ign.com/media/852/852891/imgs_1.html Trailer: http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=18243&type=wmv Long ago an evil overlord wreaked havoc upon the world with its 3 demon golems. When all seemed doomed a powerful wizard sealed the overlord into a dark sword. Without its master the 3 golems stood as statues for centuries. Now they are active again, and in order to stop them a young man must sell his soul to an evil overlord. Will we be able to save the world and his soul? The characters are squat and fierce, the story is epic, and you won't get through it without leveling or casting a few spells. Yes, that's an RPG I'm talking about and it's headed for PS2. Yes that's right. A few studios still have hot IPs headed for the aging but wildly popular system, and Nippon Ichi Software is no exception. If you remember the popular game Disgaea, and you liked it, than this title is right up your alley. Outside of the fact that Soul Nomad is made by the same team that gave us Disgaea, it borrows the grid strategy from that game as well. But before we get to that, what's the story all about? The hero of Soul Nomad carries a young fellow with quite a task ahead of him. He must destroy three powerful demons that are stalking the planet. They went to sleep long ago when a wizard capture their master, Gig, and sealed him in a sword. Well someone has awakened them, and it's up to our hero to stop them. Now he's gotten his hands on the sword with the evil overlord. The two of them have managed to strike a deal. The overlord plans to grant our hero great power to help him stop the demons. This power is so great in fact, that he can access enough to destroy the end boss from the beginning of the game. The problem with that is every time he uses Gig's power, he takes one step closer to damnation, and loses control of his body, bit by bit. The end result inevitably is Gig returning to the physical world. It's a tragic trade-off, but sacrifices are necessary in such critical times. As far as customizing your experience goes, you can choose from up to 25 different units. There are Knights, Archers, Nerneids, and Griphos Knights, each equipped with their own set of abilities. One of the more interesting addendums made to customization is the approach to leveling here. When you pick up a new character, you don't have to worry about running around and leveling him up make him useful. You can do it manually, and set the character's level up to that of the main characters'. When it's time to actually fight, you can do a little recon and evaluate what you're up against. From there, you can figure how you want to combine certain abilities in your units so you can get the best results out you teams. When you're done fighting the baddies in the field, you can go after innocent townspeople, and steal anything of value you desire. If you come across someone that looks like a pretty good fighter, you can conscript them into your army. Yes it seems as though the gritty tone of games like the GTA have made there way into Japanese RPGs. Don't let the doe-eyed faces fool you. This game seems to reward the player's most carnal impulses, all the while giving deep customization features and Disgaea-esque strategy. New PS2 SRPG announced! Grim Grimoire Screenshots: http://uk.media.ps2.ign.com/media/892/892592/imgs_1.html Trailer: http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=18236&type=wmv In the game, players will take on the role of Lillet Blan, a young magician who is admitted to a prestigious yet mystical magic school; however, on the 5th day of school, everyone mysteriously dissapears. Lellet awakens the next day to find out she's once again living out the first day of school! However her memories of the previous days are intact, giving her the opportunity to solve the mysteries behind the disappearences and prevent the tragedy from occuring. Nippon Ichi is well known for producing deep, engaging turn-based role playing games with tons of replay value. Their catalog boasts a large number of critically acclaimed titles and cult classics, such as Disgaea 2, Phantom Brave and Makai Kingdom. With that kind of pedigree, you might think that the company would be one of the last to experiment with a different genre. However, this June, Nippon Ichi will take a radical departure from their typical formula with GrimGrimoire, but fans might just be shocked to discover that it's a fantasy inspired real time strategy game. We managed to check out the game quickly at a recent NIS America press event, and came away with these impressions. GrimGrimoire is set in a world where sorcery is the norm. To educate the children of the world in the various magical arts, numerous spell casting academies have been established, with the most esteemed of them all being the Tower of the Silver Star. The school was established in the former lair of an evil Archmage who was defeated by a powerful wizard, who eventually became the Silver Star's headmaster. Players take on the role of Lillet Blan, a new student at the school who finds herself in the midst of a startling mystery: five days after she arrives at the school, a tragedy befalls the academy and every student and teacher in the tower walls is killed. Lillet is rendered unconscious, and when she awakens, she discovers that she's somehow returned to her first day at school. Even stranger, she's doomed to repeat the same five day sequence. It's up to her to discover the cause for the catastrophe, and find some way to avert it from happening. Unlike previous NIS titles, there are no turns, no levels and no parties to concern yourself with in GrimGrimoire. Instead, Lillet will need to explore her academy, speaking to her classmates and teachers to get clues behind the time bending events. As the adventure progresses, she'll acquire new spell books that will provide her with the ability to summon various creatures, such as imps, ghosts and elves. These creatures will do her bidding, collecting mana to power her spells from mana crystals scattered around the battlefield and returning them to magical seals that act as a home base. This mana provides you with the power necessary to summon additional troops, upgrade the abilities of your troops or put down defensive emplacements. This power is vital to helping you accomplish the various objectives for each battle, such as eliminating an opponent's seals or withstanding an onslaught for twenty minutes. Being concerned about defense is particularly important because the game will not slow down to give you a chance to think about your next move. Your opponent will fight for the same resources, and will often send a large number of enemy troops to attack your gatherers and unprotected seals. As a result, you'll need to summon a force of creatures to repel the invaders, patrolling between points to minimize incursions. It's also important to create an expeditionary squad to explore your surroundings so you can find the opposing "base" and destroy it. However, GrimGrimoire's combat is much more complex than the standard "tank rush" with masses of the same monster. With a "rock, paper, scissors" system that governs just about every character and unit type, players will have to integrate their forces if they want to be successful. We've only had a short amount of time with the unique title, which reminds us partially of Lemmings and Dune with the plot of the movie Groundhog Day, but we're pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to pick up and manipulate the various characters on screen. Retaining a lot of the NIS flavor, the sprites are colorful and very animated, with a certain amount of tongue in cheek humor. For instance, one demonic turret happens to be a fiery succubus with a tail, who propelled fireballs from her rear if enemy characters got too close.
Goron_3 Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 God Eternal and Sonata and Blue Dragon both look amazing. Absolutely beautiful.
Hero-of-Time Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Some awesome looking videos of Dawn of Mana. Kind of reminds me of Kingdom Hearts which is a good thing in my eyes. http://uk.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/dawnofmana/media.html
Daft Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Has there been any news on Cry On being released over here?
