rokhed00
I spend about a tenner a week on dinner and bus travel. Tge other 20 I spend on me. Yeah thats right non EMAers my Wii was paid for by it and my CDs and DVDs. Of course if I need more supplies for college then that takes priority over a new game/DVD/CD. Can't wait for my £100 christmas bonus then I can go get lots of new stuff and rub it in your faces. Benefit fraud tbh.

Jonwah
Ha I used to get EMA at 6th form. You know what it taught me? I don't have to work to get money but other people do. I spent every penny of that EMA on myself too. It doesn't work because of the way it's allocated to people, but if it was allocated differently it could easily be seen as racist or offensive. People who use the money well, to be blunt and stereotypical, are chavs. I've seen loads of chavs who have really crap homes with terrible parents and they struggle financially themselves without any support. They really benifit from EMA. Obviously I'm not lumping all chavs and their families into this group, I'm just saying I've known people who have genuinly benifited from it. My mate's parents won the lottery and his dad stopped working for a while too, they were really quite loaded. But since only his mum was working (and it was part time anyway) he got the full £30. THAT's where it's wrong. Ah well, it encourages some people to carry on education for 2 years rather than spending their entire life on the dole. Which reall was their main aim I think. demonmike04
I get EMA, but personally I dont see what the rant is. If you dont get paid it, dont complain, chances are its your EMA officers, mines always been paid in on the friday except last week because we started the day after the forms for each week were to be sent. I wouldnt be suprised if they changed it to Rokhed's idea, instead of being given money etc you'd get stationary, but many people need money for transportation, so with that I reckon if they were to change it, you'd get stationary and a sum depending on your distance from College. That main aspect of EMA that provokes mis-use of the money is the bonus, im not complaing for obvious reasons, but it does provoke the spending on personal items, £100 for free out of nowhere on random dates? Its gotta be.

Charlie
Just be glad you get money for nothing and don't complain when it doesn't come in on time. The EMA system really needs a look at, people like Harribo really shouldn't be getting it whereas I bet a load of other people here could really benefit getting it, but can't because of their particular situation. You wont be laughing when the EMA money is coming out of your money in taxes to give to people who don't deserve it.

I'm in college my family earns less than whatever the amount is for £30 a week. Also those two CDs only cost £13 which leaves me £17 left for bus/train fares and dinner for the week. Charlie
Actually what you said was you spent £10 a week on transport and the rest on yourself. I spend about a tenner a week on dinner and bus travel. Tge other 20 I spend on me. Fair enough, you deserve the £10 you spend on transport, but do you really need to boast about getting £20 a week to spend on yourself for doing nothing? LukeLee
lol, this thread is quite funny. Seeing the jealousy from those that didnt get EMA money. First off 30 pounds is very very little, transport costs and food money will take up at least 10 pound of that. So what if they spend like 20 a week on themselves, at least they are attending college. If any of you are so upset about tax money, look at the millions wasted each day on our 'war on terror' or the ridiculous amounts of money thrown at projects, or even those on job seekers who get 60 a week and mess around at home (though you cant just walk into a job now). Some of you complaining will be old enough that going to uni didnt have tution fees, well now the fees are huge, students starting now ill leave with at least 10 thousand in debt, probably closer to or over 20 thoudand. Given the choice of a little bit of money for 2 years, followed by shit loads of debt or no money in college and no big uni fees, i'm sure what most would choose. Anyway, this is kinda detracting from Coo's gripe, which was really about how unless EMA are to him as a service, afraid thats just how many services are now. Shorty
I thought this thread was going to be a complaint that people get free money that they do not deserve. Not that your free money that you do not deserve is not showing up on time. It was so annoying at college that, in order to get the same money my friends were, I had to work my weekends away in a damn fish factory. They never did a day of work, and often had more cash than me. Why? Because they lived within the distance required, whilst I lived 12 miles out of town and had to get a bus in every day. Ah well, you people enjoying your EMAs right now will hopefully get slammed with top-up fees soon. When you blow your student loan on DVDs and CDs and starve to death, I'll laugh my little laugh over here in the pre-2006 University freshman corner. Sure, I misuse it myself, but the point is its called EMA for a reason. Education Maintenance allowance, meaning its used to keep your further education going with travel, notepads pens shit like that, not our own personal hobbies and entertainment. You do deserve it if your income qualifies you for it, but misuse of the money is what makes you not deserve. I think thats what the bonus is for, as there really is no difference it can make by giving you £100 and then £30 EMA the same week.
CooInTheZoo
ok, missed the point much? i wasnt complaining about when it comes through late (though it is annoying) i was complaining how im gonna be broke for a week because im not getting it for a week because of a stupid reason. I recieve £30. Nice one, right? Untill the work load calms down and deadlines stop, dont have an awful lot of time to get a part time job and like i said i had to quit my job to actually go to college. I have maybe a tenner left of that £30, because the college makes you pay for the majority of your paints and canvases and even fucking photocopying, im not going to even start on the £100 a term for a bus pass. I agree its awful alot of people dont recieve it. But i do, good for me. And i spend it wisely. When im geniunly ill and cant make it in, and i stop getting it, i have a right to be pissed off at the system imo.
MoogleViper
What I don't get is why did they bring in EMA payments yet introduce tuition and top up fees?
