The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
@Captain Falcon Yeah, I meant multilayered backgrounds, not parallax scrolling (derp ), though there are a few dungeons that make use of it like the 4th Dark World dungeon (in that first room). But yeah, there's lots of things that it made use of it (the first, 4th, 5th and 7th dungeons in particular stand out in my mind for this, as well as many of the caves - which were probably originally test environments to experiment with the tech room - and of course the shaft of light that served as the hint for Blind The Thief's reveal ) and Link's Awakening was noticeably much more limited in terms of what they could do with elevation (it strictly adhered to a tiled layout, unlike ALTTP which had a more organically shaped layout, and you could cheat the environment a lot with how your sword/items could clearly interact with objects that were supposed to be above you). More importantly though is that the SNES' enhanced capabilities was what inspired them to introduced multilayered design to a top down Zelda in the first place - attempts to transplant it to lesser hardware being aside the point. In exploring what true S3D depth can add to top down 2D Zelda, it's not hard to see why the 3DS' hardware might have given them the idea to revisit ALTTP's world and make a sequel (In fact I bet this game started from a test where they remade ALTTP's overworld in 3D and then, looking at it afterwards, decided "let's make this new game an ALTTP sequel!") -
Nintendo 3DS Direct + Wii U Stuff - 17th April - 3pm BST

It's missing loads of games like the Rhythm Heaven series, the Art-Style/Bit Generations series, Batallion Wars, Aura Aura Climber, Eco Shooter, Face Pilot, AR Games, Face Raiders, Zangeki no Reginliev, Odama, Reflect Missile/Trajectile, Link N' Launch, Spotto/Bird and Bombs, Nintendo Land, ThruSpace/Speedthru, Freakyforms and many more! Xenoblade was developed internally and is a Nintendo owned IP. Monolith Soft is a 1st party studio, just like Retro Studios, EAD or Intelligent Systems. The other two were codeveloped by SPD 3 and their respective outside studios and the IPs are fully owned by Nintendo. Yes they do, but sadly Cing have shut down It's perfectly possible that the staff ended up joining one of Nintendo's studios though (that's what typically happens to studios that partner with Nintendo and go belly up - see Hudson/NDCube and Flagship/EAD 3) -
So hey, I just saw this... http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blog/33905 And he makes some good points! HAL is probably the studio most likely to be making this game I reckon. They've been awfully quiet since releasing Face Raiders (and no, I don't think that the whole studio has been busy working on the Wii U web browser since then...), EAD is too busy working on other projects and their other studios are either seemingly tied up with other projects or are unsuitable for this game. Would be really cool to see the Kirby guys working on a Yoshi game! (also matches up with what happened with Good Feel and HAL working on Kirby games at the same time before )
-
Hmm... So far they haven't really shown much actual new gameplay here... We'll see... But hey! At least Artoon can't be making this one now that the studio is dead! THANK CHRIST!

Thank you Nintendo for bringing the goodness to us FUCK YOU SQUARE ENIX FOR SITTING ON YOUR ARSE AND DOING NOTHING! (It's fucking shameful that you had to rely on Nintendo to do your work for you)

I had better not have to wait for these to trickle out again.... (Hell I had better see many more games than just that on the eShop next week!)

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I had absoultely no idea which direction they'd take for a 3DS Zelda game. Now I noticed Miyamoto and Aonuma's interest in revisiting ALTTP, when they were commenting on how the multilayer design of ALTTP was perfect for S3D; but I thought that they were considering a 3D Classics remake, not a full on sequel! It makes perfect sense. The main gimmick behind ALTTP's gameplay was not the magic meter, the new items or even necessarily the light world/dark world mechanic (though that was a huge part of it of course) but was actually parallax scrolling. Thanks to the SNES' advancements over the NES, they could finally have multilayered environments and dungeons (with elevation playing a key role in environmental design). So when it comes to seeing what S3D can offer to the Zelda gameplay, what better way to explore the 3DS' features than to revisit the core concept of the game that was all about multilayered depth in the first place and expand on it! They could actually have enemies that float over you that you can actually really fight in mid air! Or puzzles that require you to move from different heights! The thing that's a bit weird about this is the fact that it takes place in the same world. That makes it the second sequel to ALTTP (after Ancient Stone Tablets for the BSX Satellaview), so I hope that they greatly expand the actual game world of ALTTP Hyrule! -

I have it and I've not seen anything in it that could possibly cause any issues, be it legal, spelling mistakes or US spellings. -

I hope it's not a MM remake. I want an original Zelda for 3DS, not another remake! -

Weird that they only mention Wii U stuff for the JPN ND video... JPN release dates only? Say it isn't so... -
No. The built-in Wii friend list was only used for Wii Connect 24 data sharing. Online games had to have their own built-in friend lists and friend codes (good lord, that setup was horrifying ), so you can still play Wii games online with friends on Wii U.

YEAH! Shipped! Can't delay it now NOE! :p

Well that's one of the ND surprises spoilt then

Yup, the US is getting one at the same time too http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct/archive/04-17-2013/ Likelihood of megaton localisations rising... BTW, I know this is random as hell, but more than anything else right now I want them to announce wireless multiplayer support for GB/GBC games on the VC. It's utterly criminal that it's not available (how are they gonna re-release Pokemon RBY and GSC later on this year to celebrate Pokemon X & Y without it!?) Then GBA games on the 3DS with the same 4 player local wireless option, pretty please! -
You pay the extra £1.15 for faster delivery of course :p

I think you need to rehost your picture -
Wahey! A discount on a retail download! Too bad that the game suffers from that game-breaking save file bug...

WHY!? Why not just offer both versions for us to choose from!? Even if the gameplay speed is fixed, it still won't feel as smooth because of the 50FPS limit It requires no effort from Nintendo, both versions of the games get archived (which is important when many games feature substantial differences between the EU/US versions like Smash Bros 64, Mario Golf 64, Metroid Prime and Luigi's Mansion) and everybody is happy. Edit: Looking at some videos and reading up on the original conversion, Kirby himself moves at the same speed as the NTSC version but the enemies move slower (so Kirby is now too fast relative to everything else!). The music was also converted, but not perfectly (it's slightly too slow and the pitch is a little too low) Will be interesting to see if they've bothered to fix any of those problems with this release...

Cool to see a 3DS version of KORG. Hopefully the fact that it's on eShop should help it reach a wider audience. You could make some amazing stuff with the DS version (even though it's too complex for the likes of me to really get much out of it, it's just plain cool!) Still my favourite remix of the Cheetahmen theme Wish I was that good...

She's using it. There's another 999 of them out there that will probably mostly go into storage/get traded on eBay anyway :p
